Good stuff. I love your list of "Evil Access Stuff." I remember being excited by split forms when they first came out and then...immediately going back to the way I did things before they were available. After watching your video, I'm glad I didn't waste any more time on them.
Yeah... a lot of the "bad tastes" in my mouth when it comes to Access features happened because they were not implemented very well when they were first released, or had major bugs. The worst was Data Access Pages. Remember those? OMG they were horrible. I'm glad MS nuked them.
Hi Rick. Nice video. I agree with you. I don’t like split formsever since you told me. I use single form and have search forms forms my database and when I do search I double click on the contact or anything in my databases. Merry Christmas!
Good morning Richard, nice video as always! I use a lot Split Forms, but i would like to start using continous forms like you're showing.. what do you think its the best way to apply multiple customized filters on a continuous form? In the past, i tried but the new fitlers overwritten the first one and so on. Thank you a lot!
I have a split form where the toggle button currently works on the data sheet portion of the form. However, once I add a field that is a list, that allows multiple selections, the toggle feature no longer works on the data sheet. Does anyone know why or have the solution to fix?
Thank you very much for alternate solution. I think they haven't fixed the problem with split forms yet, as it suddenly stops responding or the scrolling is stuck especially when you experiment with the form. Often regains scrolling ability only when adjust the row height after opening the form each. Repeatedly remade the split forms a number of times continuously for three to four days. Fortunately I could make it right at the last attempt and still holds good. Presumed that I was making mistakes with the property settings.
Yeah, I still read of problems with them, and people send me issues to help them with all the time regarding Split Forms... which is why, again, I tell people to just not use 'em.
I wholehearted agree with all your "Evil" points. I don't know why Microsoft introduced so many half-baked ideas. Perhaps to sell more SQL Server and other enterprise products. I recently inherited a few vba apps from a retiree that literally did everything here wrong and much more (including naming several fields just "Date" and after people in the office). I have all I can do to not just beg to start over. I also think Access' flexibility is its attraction and its downfall. It is "Enough rope to hang yourself" with too many ways to do the same thing, and still too many bad examples still online. You validate most of my understanding, but I always learn something new too. Thx
They introduced these half-baked ideas to help non-developers be able to do things that are more advanced... which is worse for them in the long run because they then have to learn how to do things properly and then un-F*@& their databases.
Thanks to this video I will never use split forms. Lol. I have a question though. Is it possible to create a dynamic continuous form? One that changes based on your query or "filters" set?
Thank You very much for all of your Access tips, solutions and suggestions they are greatly appreciated. A very Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.
Happy holidays!

You write a custom SQL statement based on the fields you want to filter:
