Thank you for saying this Ramsey, Promise is on another level. Promise does not compare to the Hope. I don't know why but I get so much vevtiver from Hope, will try it again soon.

I just got a ten ml bottle of Frederic Malle Promise, a few weeks ago. I had been wanting to try their fragrances, and they had a free splash bottle when you ordered from them, so I got a free 7 ml bottle of Portrait of a Lady too, and a few samples, Rose & Cuir, Uncut Gem, and Heaven Can Wait. I had a hard time paying the $100 price for the 10 ml bottle of Promise, so I couldn't imagine paying $250 for the ten ml Hope!!! I have a few higher end fragrances, like Louis Vuitton Myriad, Ombre Nomade, and Nuit de Feu, and Roja Sweetie Aoud, but I didn't buy those on a whim. I get it that some fragrances are more expensive than others, but some of the Frederic Malle ones are just ridiculous, like Hope and The Night.

Brother its not only niche perfumery case. 99% artisan brands are doing the same. I only respect Russian Adam and his Areej Le Dore.
Please do recommend a dozen of them! 5-10-15 indie niche houses, preferably available in europe, does not matter.
This is crazy that I myself like a lot of other can notice that a lot of niche products are not what they are presented as and for.
I am sick of the PdMs, Xerjoffs and other twisted overly expensive parfumes.

Cheers Rams really appreciate this review and the obvious decline of FM by Lauder . I expected as much really ,these days niche is going by way of designer to extort and dupe the designer folk into the overpriced niche realm by catering for designer taste and finger up to the faithful because they are a small proportion of the market place in the world of fragrance and profit. Cheers brother. I hear that Boss Bottle Absolu is rather nice lol 😂💪🤜👊

Ummmm I mean maybe there is Thai oud but go watch my reviews of Thai oud fragrances like ensars and this just doesn't compare to those...this is the same fruity green apple thing of promise to my nose
@@RamseytheRam for sure i only tried hope on a strip once so im not for sure saying it has Thai oud, i also think this is an overwhelming release as i own 3 desert gems and i wouldn’t compare those 3 to this one for sure

Ii am going to disagree with Ransey on Hope. Below is the review I left on fragantica
Two weeks ago, I picked up this fragrance on impulse in Harrods, Knightsbridge. I am very impressed with the quality of the fragrance. I own FM Promise. I could see the similarities, but this is different. It's a lighter, more pleasant wear. I enjoy this more than I do Promise. I have worn this twice, once on a long-haul flight. The fragrance was present all through the flight. I love fragrances, with a bubble and I can constantly smell myself . This is a 10 out of 10 fragrance and not redundant to own this and promise. I own all the following FMs The Moon, Promise, Musc Ravageur, POL, Hope is my favourite of them all and I have 140 bottles of mostly niche fragrances Hope comes in as number 3 on my list behind Roja Diaghilev and Roja Enigma Pour Homme. Fragrances are truly subjective
You have to trust your own nose... to me this Is a big 👎
But will the quality of the already created perfumes (portrait of a lady,the night etc.) get lowered in the future? 😢

Amougae, Creed, Roja, now FM... The state of fragrance world sure looks depresing. On a positive note it saves a lot of time and money when you can safley don't pay atention to any new releases :D
That's exactly what I do...just ignore everything new..now Amouage has the "Essences" collection ... it never ends 😂
Totally agree with you, when money becomes the biggest banger, money is a danger - not only in perfumery: in everything, and particularly in all forms of art. Fortunately, there are artisanals, a few creative or vintagey niches, and vintage! But how much time till the total unbearable hegemoney?
SOTD : layer with Cuoium and Tobacco Rose - the contrast between the waxy mossy humid rose, nose in the flower in a garden after the rain, and this semi-chemical smoky woody animalic leather, like a weaker version of the Florence or Annonay's tanneries, is so, so good!

Ram, what's the most recent niche house release that you love? No new niche releases have caught my interest in a couple years now.
Honestly it's been so long I can't think of one of the top of my head... maybe some of the Les Indemodables or Les Abstraits 🤷🏻♂️

Thanks for your honesty - so many other RUclipsrs are giving this a chequered flag, no doubt to keep the freebees coming...about Pierre de Velay, I think the one you mention is 47, which I didn't care for. I have 25 full bottles of Areej le Dore and can assure you that many PdV are amazing. #9 is a best in class Chanel Allure Edition Blanche with huge salty and sour ambergris. #4 is a reference powdery boozy amber, Essence Rare is my wife's favourite fragrance....the list goes on and on. 4 and 9 are better than most Rojas. But I don't care for 1 and The Oud, which are just ,more fake oud curial bombs.
Yes I enjoyed 47... it was just the shock of smelling something that smelled so similar to Great Britain... in my blind sniff episode I literally thought it was Great Britain 🇬🇧
@@RamseytheRam 25 is similar to Midsummer Dream but 9 and 4 have no equivalents in the line up. 4 is a reference rum amber and 9 kicks the ass if Uden and all Chanel Allure Edition Blanche wannabes. Other PdV seem mature and old school to me, but not really replicas of the main Roja line. As a disclaimer I don’t like 47 - too grunty

I just got Hope in. Here's my first impression:
A mix of Promise and Dawn.
To me, it smells like Dominique Ropion's take on Dawn.
Personally, I really like it. 🤷🏻♂️

Should've done a coffee & honey or coffee & chocolate oud fragrance. When most people get to where Ropion is they rest on their achievements because their name does all the talking that's why Julien Rasquinet's The moon is the most popular desert gem he's had something to prove and frankly put Carlos/Ropion to shame.

I agree with you 100%. Hope is Promise with some tweaks (and it costs more than double than Promise). And that is if you compare retail prices, because if you buy Promise on a Discounter we are talking about $300 vs $1150

I might buy Louis Vuitton Nuit de Feu (similar to Dawn in my opinion). Not as good as Dawn but good.

Hi Ramsey, I totally agree with you on this review and I think more people should speak frankly about prices and quality, I've been wondering about TF latest releases and I thought to myself ok I love perfumes, but not to the point of paying 400 euros for a 50ml bottle, there's something wrong about that in my opinion, no matter how much I can afford paying, I just won't do it. And now we're even talking about over 1000 pricing and for a fragrance that leaves much to be desired.. I mean there must be a limit to everything. And I'm so fed up with channels that only promote and praise every latest shite that's just appeared on the market :))
Yes you are spot on... the way to stop this madness is for people to stop paying the prices that are being asked ...you have to vote with your pocketbook
I purchased Hope in August at the uptown FM boutique. I like it-it’s a better version of Oud for Greatness. Sales rep told me there is one more fragrance directed by Frederick Malle coming out after Hope. No other details given.

Seems like I'm in the minority but I really like it. It's like fir balsam/incense/vetiver out to me, green and resinous, long lasting but not overbearing, skanky a little bit, overall restrained. Of course the price is beyond outrageous but if I find it second hand or a tester I will not think twice.

I tried this a couple of days ago, and it seemed to be the worst desert gem, in my opinion. Like taking Promise and thinking ok, I'll make this but worse, that was my first impression. I will try it and analyze it in a more detailed way in the future, but I liked Promise, Moon, Dawn etc way more than this when I first tried them. Cheers!

I worked for a successful communication company for about 10 yeaars .. the company founded by one man who started from zero but after more than 20 years of success he sold the company! Everything after that was & still going down 👎 & in the end I left it for the reason it becomes one of the worst to be working in.
The same is here with FM brand unfortunately 😕

Everything after FM will be a huge disappointment IMHO & it started with HOPE.
Money ... when offered such a huge amount of money it's impossible to look the other way ... many brands now a days are set up with the specific point of selling it to one of the big boys
I would not say the niche perfume world is dead per se but I do not think I like where the big brands are heading. Look at Amouage, with their lukewarm, super accessible releases. Even Zoologist, moving away from that experimental, challenging animal derived philosophy and towards something more friendly. It is sad, but we are not doomed to all cash grabs. On a plus side Mr 🐏 I got sample coming today of Interlude 53, so I wonder what I'll think of it..
I liked Interlude 53 but I am just as happy wearing Interlude tbh

Yeah….i dont like it at all, i figured you wouldnt either lol. I get small glimpses of other desert gems like Dawn with its cold rubbery feel and promise in the opening for about 10-15 seconds….but any of its positives are buried under this obnoxious drone of industrial chemical amberwoods. I also dont smell real oud, im always left searching for it.
When i smelled it, one of the first things i actually said to myself was “ramsey is going to hate this shit” 😂
