    Very cool video, thanks for sharing it with all of us! Savannah looks like a cool town despite some minor inconveniences that you all had, glad you were able to enjoy it!
    As always, fair winds, following seas, and safe travels to you both!⛵⚓

    Enjoyed the revisit for me. Just as I remembered. The moss on the old oaks are air plants. They can get huge! Some land owners will split them apart if a tree has to much and put some on another tree. When I was a kid the knickknacks for Spanish Moss was " Grandpaw's Beard." I haven't thought of that in years!!! I remember Maddie talking about Mr. Hogg. That's pretty cool!!

    There's a public dock across from the convention center large enough for about 5 Wisdoms. I spent an overnight at no expense and drew quite a bit of attention with the night strollers and homeless.

    • @RiggingDoctor
      @RiggingDoctor  2 года назад +1

      We were told that the dock was closed for repairs when we were there. We called ahead to see if the pier was open and no one answered at that time.
      The piers near it were insanely expensive so we decided to play it safe and stop in thunderbolt, taking land transportation into the city.

    Hi Maddie & Herbee, and pet family. Love your shirt design, Savannah was that close to Thunderbolt? We did the other way on our bikes for provisions. But your walk tour was fabulous. The birds are so well behaved, they definitely find comfort in each other. Poor Marty( Morty) didn’t get to come. Dogs are tricky on bicycles. Thank you as always for your videos!😎💕👍⚓️⚓️⛵️

    • @RiggingDoctor
      @RiggingDoctor  2 года назад

      It was a few miles away by bike. We have tried a few methods to take Morty on a bike and all were very unsuccessful! The birds seem to love the wind in their face as they watch the world go by.

    Howdy M&H more good tips... I now know to not ICW on my to the keys next year... Yes, it was a beautiful vid to watch and enjoy the old Antebellum South that Savannah represents... Odd, I still have not seen WindPuff and must have missed a vid or two... Good luck on the refit and Fair Winds...

    My uncle and his wife lived in Savannah, GA! My favorite childhood memories were swimming in their backyard pool overlooking the river. Cept for the time that a gater decided to swim in the pool as well. 😅. Lovely city!!

    OMG. We were in the Herb River just about that time. We anchored there for weather for a few days. Thunderbolt...is fantastic. There is a little restaurant called Tubby's, just a couple of blocks from the Thunderbolt Marina, and for my money, it is one of the best seafood restaurants on the East Coast. No frills, but the best oysters, scallops and Fish and Chips we have had for years. We stopped back by Thunderbolt when we drove back up to Virginia it was that good. Anyhow, what a joy to see you feature those cool spots in Savannah.

    Maddie, I guess the art talent must be in the genes. Savannah is a definite stop on our list. Of course with all the skoolie and sailboat videos I've watched over the years, our list of destinations is massive! We'll have much purpose with that bucket list long into the golden years.

    From a rest of the world point of view we don't get to see what you are currently providing. Nobody from abroad goes and sails America because the visas are not long enough. Americans don't do it because everybody knows America because there is nothing else, because they come from there and don't think of it as anything special. It's a nice experience. I live in Turkey and the "visit Turkey" RUclipsrs are many There are only so many times you can see Göcek, Fethiye etc. without getting the seen it all, been there done that, told the tshirt guy to leave me alone, vibes. It's a new and interesting look at a country the rest of the world thinks is falling apart at the seams.

      Glad to give you a good view of it all.
      Our favorite part of sailing Europe was sailing into the small towns and up rivers (as far as we could fit). We decided to apply that same approach to sailing the coast of the United States.

    I find the conversion rate between diesel and electric isn't accurate. In reality I think it's more like 2.5-3 times what it says. So in reality you're like 10-12hp equivalent? But I'm just guessing. Savanna looked beautiful. So cool about the great, great grandfather 🙂 Do the parrots have a favourite person?

    Surprised by the number of sailboat rescues in that area, they run aground and take water. Rescue takes over an hour just to locate a cell phone ping so they say fire off all of your flares immediately. Apparently, they can't see you sinking.

  • @DaveMatthewsThe

    "You can'y get to Savannah by boat" Um, Trying Not To Sink (Yt channel) stay AT a Marina ON River Street (as do most cruisers that want to stay IN Downtown Historic District Savannah). I mean, let's be real, all you have to do is go up the Savannah River and you end up in Savannah, 3 in from the old Cobblestone historic streets of river street. It's not that hard!

    • @RiggingDoctor
      @RiggingDoctor  Год назад +1

      They also charge $4 per foot which for us would be $180 per night. That’s wildly above our budget so not possible for us or most cruisers on a budget. There is also no anchoring allowed, so you have to pay if you go up the river.
      So, if you want to fight an incredibly strong current and pay a ton for fuel, followed by a ton for docking, you can go up the river. If you are a practical cruiser, you can’t get there by boat.

    • @DaveMatthewsThe
      @DaveMatthewsThe Год назад

      I can understand that but saying something is not accessible as different than saying it's not really affordable. When one person says something can't be done but you just saw it done three times in other videos.

    Hey guys love the videos. Can’t wait until we get out there. I have a question. Occasionally I see what looks like a rope fender one the side of your boat. Is it just a fender? And did you make it or buy it somewhere?
    Thanks

    • @HandyMan657

      It is a rope fender and I believe Herb made it.

    • @RiggingDoctor
      @RiggingDoctor  2 года назад +1

      Yes indeed. I made 4 rope fenders about 8 years ago. They have been indispensable on our travels. We will be making a set for our other boat in the near future so stay tuned for a video on how to make your own.
