This is not your normal competition. Imagine a competition in the US where many popular well known professional singers compete and one of them is a wild card that no one heard before. That wildcard was Dimash.

Yes it was a Chinese talent show. What makes this program unique is that all the contestants are well known professionals. Dimash (the foreigner) was granted entry as a "wild card" as the producers didn't think he'd get past the first round. He literally blew them away and the rest is history.

By the way, Dimash never just sign a record label. He wants to stay in control of his songs. His father is his manager and producer and takes care of him very well.
By now he is 27 years old. Sos at the Singer was in 2017. You will love his progress and so many original songs.

🔥 Dimash is the best vocalist alive 🔥 supported by all vocal coaches I follow online, who watches a couple of his songs. Tastes differ, but he’s soooooo good. And besides that, he touches our soules, with his voice but also his personality and behavior. A true gift to our world. ❤️
His highest note so far that I have heard is D8. His lower register can be found at the bottom of the earth.

Dimash was offered a position with Astana Opera, which he refused. His preference is to pursue mixed genre singing. He does a little bit of everything fabulously well. He even raps. He was only 22 here. He's a big star in China (lived in Beijing for 3 years developing that) and in Russia, where he works a lot with Igor Krutoy (one of his childhood idols) He had a major tour of the US and Europe planned for last year, - canceled for Covid. Did do a sell-out show at Barclays Stadium in Dec. of 2019. Planning to move to US (temporarily) when the pandemic is over, to establish his career throughout the Americas.
This contest is for established professionals - 13-14 episodes, winners voted by audience. Dimash was completely unknown then in China - they had him go first and asked the audience to give him a warm welcome, which they obviously did. He won 1st place for 3 episodes, SOS, Opera 2 and Adagio. When you listen to Adagio, please do listen to the version on The Singer. It's by far the best. After this performance the SOS track went viral overnight, getting millions of views. He woke up a full super star in China. His Queen medley with Super Vocal Boys is amazing. His duet with Aida Garifullina, singing Igor Krutoy's Ulysses, is phenomenal and of course gives a hint of the opera career he could have had. Wonderfully resonant baritone voice.

Dimash does opera, pop, R&B, jazz scatting, rap, Kasack folk music, angel, alien and dolphin, often combining genres not only in one song but in one phrase of a song. His influences are Michael Jackson, Pavarotti, Eminem, Queen, Lara Fabian and his very patriotic devotion to his homeland Kazakhstan. Trained since the age of five when he was presented to a prestigious music academy and found to have perfect pitch. His parent are stars in their own right - Mom in opera and Dad in pop. He was offered a permanent position in the Astana Opera Company and declined to invent his own unique style of music. He hold degrees in both classical and contemporary music and I think just recently completed his doctorate in musical composition. He speaks fluently in Kasack and Russian and is learning Mandarin and English. He sings in 12 languages and plays multiple instruments. He dances well and is handsome enough to have done modeling and is on last months cover of GQ in Kazakhstan n. He has a red belt in taekwondo and is a swimmer. He does so much charitable work that he is considered a cultural ambassador for Kazakhstan and was honored by their president on his recent 27th birthday. He has partnered with Michael Kors to combat world hunger. He doesn't just sing, he creates performance art with every appearance. So when record companies try to pigeonhole him in a specific genre he politely and firmly says no. He is already world famous and when he did his first American concert at the Barclay Center in NYC (available on You Tube) people flew in from 140 countries and from all over the US to hear him. The West is a bit slow to catch on because his introduction was delayed by Covid last year. Prepare for the musical ride of your life, astonishment at every turn. His fans are called Dears because he is constantly acknowledging how dear to his heart his fans are and how much he appreciates them. He is amazingly humble and aware of the trappings and stumbling blocks of celebrity and already is planning when he can just be another member of a concert audience and a teacher. Extraordinary in every way.

That's not even his best live version of this song! He has been training since he was 5. He was offered to work for the Opera in Kazakhstan, but he wanted to be free to experiment with his voice, connecting different genres of music. As such, he is setting a new standard for all vocalists and what's possible in singing. By singing the different genres of songs (Opera, classical, pop, rock, rap...), he is bringing genres such as opera back into the mainstream. People who have never liked certain genres are discovering them for the first time! Oh, in terms of range, his highest note that he sang live is a D8 (beyond the standard piano keyboard). The highest he got in this song is an E6. He has an excellent, beautiful, and well rounded lower register, and frankly he's excellent at every register, and especially how he seemlessly crosses from one to the other. You never know which "voice" he's going to start any particular song with!

Although a "contest," this isn't like "The Voice" or "American Idol." The competitors are top-echelon stars.
Though compared to Dimash, most others were more "mediocre" (as most other singers, even "top," most successful, of any nation, would be) there was a contestant added around the 3rd or 4th episode, a woman, who was a stunning singer. I don't have her name offhand, but she, like Dimash, was "special" among a field of top professionals.

You are referring to Sandy Lam, who won the show in that year. The contest required that a Chinese singer must win the show. That's not to take away from the fact that Lam has a superb voice. Unbelievably, seeing her on the show, the lady is 51.

After this performance, the professionals he was competing with fell in love with him, but hated following after his performance. The phone lines were were jammed with calls and after one performance he needed bodyguards every where he went. Overnight he became a star to the Chinese audience, who loved him. He has done sell out concerts around the world, is family oriented with a high set of standards for his life. There is no other singer/performer that is a match for DIMASH the legend. This song SOS is one of the five hardest songs for any singer and he "killed" it. I have never heard any other person sing SOS quite as masterfully, I was shocked about 4 years ago the first time I heard DIMASH do this favorite song of mine (for close to 30 years back)
I am Singers is an invitation only contest. The other contestants are popular singers (imagine Mariah Carey, Whitney Houston, Celine Dion in one room). Then there is Dimash, a stranger, unknown in China blew everyone away.

Dimash Kudaibergen, is a Kazakh singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist. He is university trained in classical as well as contemporary music, and is known for his exceptionally wide vocal range. He has performed songs in twelve languages. He is 27 now, but this performance was several years ago when he was 22 or 23 I believe.
He has fans in over 160 countries and calls them DEARS as we are dear to him like family. In many opinion he is the greatest vocalist of our time.
Another amazing thing about Dimash is he brings the world together. Consider you are an English speaking person watching a Kazakh kid sing in French on a Chinese singing competition. There are no boundaries and people come from all over world to see him live in concert and sing songs in multiple languages. Beyond the spectacular voice Dimash is a kind, humble, well raised young man and his fans adore him for this.
Dimash's highest note is a D8 which was performed live at one of his performances. He is an independant artist by the way and has team Dimashali that produces his art.

Is not just about his voice, its about how he use every place/color/tone/intensity/etc of his voice to interpret a song. Is not avout his vocal qualities, ist about how to use it. That is the big dicerence whit other superb voices
Great first reaction to the king Dimash. Record deals? Nope, he turned down all offers because nobody granted (so far) the complete artistic freedom he wants. He works with several people (for example, he has a label for the Chinese market which released his first album ID... by the way, it went platinum in 37 seconds), but exclusivity is not given to anyone. So he is basically an independent artist, who does what he wants to do, and only works with people he trusts. His agent is his father, his sound engineer is his best friend, his musicians and backing vocalists are also his friends. He produces his own MVs.
He defines himself basically as a live performer, and although he has recorded beautiful songs for movies, series and videogames, it's live where you can take the true dimension of his greatness. His concerts are amazing, he sings pop, folk, classic, dances, plays instruments... several genres and songs in several languages. People fly from all over the world to hear him sing live (or did, until Covid put all on pause), he is able to gather people from all ages, nationalities, languages, ethnicities, religions and cultural backgrounds.
Now, four years after this first performance on the Chinese "Singer" competition, believe it or not, he is even better. In addition, he is a great human being, so as much as he is admired as an artist, he is loved because of the kind of man he is.

What really impacts is that he touches your soul, and he dosnt do it with the lowest or highest note, but with everything else.
As he tells you, he begs you, cries or makes you smile from ear to ear while you get goose bumps and you don't even know what the lyrics say. Dimash has trained in music since he was 5 years old. He said he started taking individual voice lessons at age fifteen. He holds degrees in classical music (vocal) 2014, contemporary music (vocal) 2018. In June of 2020 he received his masters in composition, and is currently working on his doctorate in musicology. He has said many times as long as he sings he will train. His parents are both well know singers in Kazakhstan. His mother in opera, and his father contemporary. He sings in 12 languages, and plays multiple instruments, including drums, piano, and dombra.
This video was from Singer and was in 2017, he was 22 years old. He was young at 22, but at 6'3" not small. LOL In the last four years he has improved, if that is even possible, but he has. He was offered a position with the Astana Opera, but he turned it down not wanting to be locked into one genre. It left him open to go every and any direction he wants to, and he has taken full advantage of it. He sings opera, contemporary, etc. Just recently he released a song called Be With Me that I think fits into only the Dimash Genre. LOL Just today he released a song written by Ranat Gaissan. He does sing some background vocal in the song, but the song is more instrumental with Ranat playing keyboard and Dimash playing dombra. It is outstanding to listen to.
He had just started a world tour when the pandemic began. I attended his sold out concert at Barclay's in New York in 2019, and it was ethereal. Keep on your journey with Dimash, he will not disappoint, and will continue to surprise. I do recommend you stay away from anything to do with The Worlds Best. To make a long story short, they heavily edited all of his songs down to something almost not recognizable, and they treated him horribly. Dears don't like those videos at all. Blessings to you!

Dimash has been experiencing growth in his fan-base (he calls his “Dears” because they are dear to him!). Dimash has made it his mission to combine his styles and to incorporate classical, pop and traditional Kazakh style in his music.
Yes, it was a competition and he was competing against Chinese professional singers.He was unknown in China at that time. The judges are the audience who are either singers or musicians. What you have just watched was the first episode of the program and he was the first one to perform because, according to some people, he was perceived as the weakest link. SOS is a great introduction to Dimash- you get a hint of his range and he gets to showcase how well he sings in a variety of styles. I personally love it when he sings more classical pieces, but I grew up around opera. What a beautiful voice, and he is bar none the most skilled technical singer I have ever heard. Thanks for this reaction. Next stop Sinful Passion, then Ogni Pietra and/or Opera 2 (more playful). Then just for kicks check out his duet with Li Yugang (who sings female roles in the China National Opera). Some pretty spectacular vocal acrobatics there plus different cultural singing styles.

About this Chinese singing contest... As somebody said - "If you are having a bad day just think about the person who had to sing after Dimash..."
This was the first night of a Chinese singing competition show called "I Am a Singer" several years ago. Dimash was invited as a wildcard, and performed first. They probably figured "let's let the new guy get his performance out of the way so we can get on to the 'real' acts"... not surprisingly, he won that first evening's competition (and several others, as well). He hit E6 in this performance (twice), and he hits D8 in another performance (Unforgettable Day at Gakku).
You keep referring to the higher end of his range as "falsetto", which is a minor offense (as in "offensive") since this young man has a full 7-octave range. You owe it to yourself to watch something he has done recently. This song he did 6 or more years ago and since that time has expanded his range. For a more up-to-date example, listen to "Stranger", or "Endless Dimensions". He also plays 5 instruments at professional level (began playing piano, for example at 5), records in 13 different languages and continues to expand his vocal range, especially the lower range (now D2). He reaches his whistle tone at exactly one key off the right end of the piano! FYI: He is also not as wimpy as he may appear on stage. He stands at 6' 3" tall, and has a brown belt in Karate! Still, this is the most humble, polite, unassuming super star you'll ever find. He is never too proud or special but to stop and talk to fans, sign autographs, and pose for pictures.

He came second place in the competition (not allowed to win Chinese competition because he was not Chinese). It was for professional singers that were already stars in China. One reactor in learning he came second place said 'Who the hell won??? God???'

He is way past Ariana. You have only touched the surface with Dimash. Sit back and buckle-up, you are about to be Dimashified!! His range is A2-D8 and yes, Dimash has left the piano!!! Wait until you hear his lower register, it will blow you away. In this song at the beginning when he started low and went through the sentence into a staccato - this was 2 octaves and 4 notes (in one sentence)!!
