- Let's make some food in the All American Sun Oven aka Solar Oven. Easy and we'll use it to make Greek wrap. Future video will show how to make tzatziki from scratch as well. Let's get started!
Chicken thighs are my secret to anything chicken that tastes really food
it's my favorite too, breasts are too dry
Nice Gagets! Good looking, Chicken!
I love cooking off grid.
Looks delicious, , thanks for sharing YAH bless !
Hope you enjoy
@@OldSchoolPrepper I ordered some of that spice mix to try
The chicken looks tasty! I've never tried Cavender's seasoning - will have to get some 🙂
I love it, it is a bit salty so I never need additional salt when I use it..maybe just some pepper
how cool is that
it is very cool...and a tip, you can find these All American Sun Oven's on FB or CL for cheap...they are really expensive new, the last one I got was $50
@@OldSchoolPrepper Great deal!
I have that same oven. I love it. I noticed that you didn't lock the glass down in the video. Did you just not do it in the video, or do you not tend to lock it down to let the excess moisture escape? I tend to lock mine down unless I'm intending to dry something out. Also, your model doesn't have an "aimer" for lack of a better term. My oven has a small white ceramic piece on the door that helps to aim the oven. Did yours fall off (a few ceramic items have fallen off my doors and had to be re-siliconed back on) or did yours not come with that piece?
Great video - it's wonderful to share how useful that tool is with people!
Hi Praxis...I simply forgot to lock the door, frankly I haven't noticed much difference in temp from door locking to not but maybe I should test that .hhhmmmm....I have 2 Sun Oven's and both are too old to the the sun aimer thing...which is why I just use the shadow...if the shadow is evenly distributed on both sides then it's good to go, I think it's faster and easier than the aim thing..in fact I can look out my window and see if I need to go outside and move it from the house.
@@OldSchoolPrepper I got you. If you ever want to reattach those aimers (or the door handle) silicone glue will work to do that. I'm pretty cavalier about aiming too. I usually just point it at the sky in the area where the sun will be around when I want the food to cook and be ready.
I invested in a Sun Oven Christmas roasting combo special going on back in 2018 it came with everything dehydrator trays, cooking pans etc..along with a Rocket Stove..I’m ashamed to say I have never used either of them..I just looked at the price of just the sun oven unit itself and holy moly they go for over $550 now.
I know, it's crazy...the last one I bought was used off FB Marketplace for $50 and it came with the pots and pans. I find either people use them alot or not at all...i'd only buy one used at this point. I have a Sun Oven playlist of other cooking I've done, you can do it!
@@OldSchoolPrepper ~Oh..thanks I will definitely check your playlist!
Okay, if you're getting a 5# tub of seasoning it's GOT to be good. I'll look that one up. I wonder if you could mix it with sour cream and mayo to make a veggie dip...?
that veggie dip idea sounds great...a bit salty with this particular spice mix but a good idea none the less
is your sun oven missing the 2 turn clips that hold the glass lid shut against foam insulation to stop high oven temp from circulating out ?
hi Mike, nope they both have the clips, I just neglected to use them. I have 2 Sun Oven's the one in this video is more than 20 years old and the glass door started to pull away from the frame so we slipped the door upside down and rescrewed the door on, which is why the door opens backward. We moved the clips but I forgot to lock them...It doesn't seem to make much difference in temp for me, but Praxis Prepper mentioned the same thing so maybe I'll test that (locked v. unlocked) since I do have 2 of them. Thanks!
Gen x does under cooked and burnt lol
yea...well I'm Gen X and don't burn, my mom was "the Silent Generation" and she was the dry burner but I get your point
