I've so enjoyed these newer videos where you are really letting us meet and hear and see your 3 older boys!!! They are so respectful! Interesting to hear their opinions on so many different things! They don't interrupt when someone else is talking or sharing ideas, they really seem to enjoy not only sharing their knowledge of so many different Alaska opportunities but letting the other older boys do as well!!!

I have never hunted , however, I do eat meat . I simply try to buy responsibly. As other commentators have pointed out , this family is ALWAYS very clear that their main source of protein is from hunting , fishing, etc . This is not a sport . Mark would never encourage his sons to shoot just for a trophy . That would be abhorrent , and totally against his morals . He would never have allowed either Hunter or Bennet to take aim unless he was sure that it would be a clean kill , no suffering . That was what made him proud . He is doing a great job .

Not going to lie, I felt sorry for the bears, I said “ohh” out loud 🙁 BUT! I completely understand it’s not to hurt them at all!!! I know and understand the Hams are a hunting family! There is nothing wrong with that!! It’s a great thing to know how to provide food for your family! The boys did an amazing job!!! 😊 it was really cool to see the meat getting all cut up and packaged!!
We have only made salami in our family so to see how you guys do it is really cool 😊
    I loved this video 😊

I'm mostly vegetarian but I've always paid attention when the men in our extended family went hunting (I am 66 and grew up when only males went hunting. I asked but my grandfather said"no".). I think it is smart to learn to hunt and prepare meat. Naysayers can skip this video but I'm looking at it as a learning experience. Congrats to Mark, Hunter and Bennett!

What everyone keeps forgetting or not mentioning is that each state in this country has a Wildlife/Fish/Game department whose job it is to ascertain the population of “huntable” animals. To then regulate how many, what gender, age etc that can be hunted that year with however many licenses have been sold. ITS CALLED WILDLIFE MANAGEMENT. It is not healthy for the wildlife to have a huge population of animals to land to people etc. It makes it completely unhealthy for the animals that way. Yes there folks who are poaching illegally certain animals at wrong times etc however penalties are stiff in this country. Look it up before and get educated before coming down on people you know nothing about.

Sad to say that in UK wildlife management is not really understood as a necessity . Many years ago the National Trust ( a " charity " that manages many stately homes and estate's), was left an island on which there was a herd of deer . In their wisdom???? It was decided to stop culling the herd in the belief that they would self regulate their numbers. The result was catastrophic, overpopulation within a few year's, leading to starvation.we share this planet and we have a responsibility to share it with other living creature's. As for thinking all creature's apart from humans are innocent , if you think animals only kill out of need , you have never seen the slaughter after a fox attack on a hen house !!! They don't just take what they need , they slaughter all they can. I commend you Lauren and Mark for raising responsible children .

I wanna start this by saying I have no problems with people hunting as long as it's done responsibly (not a choice I would make for myself but to each their own)...but I didn't really want to see a dead bear on my subscription feed with no warning. Perhaps using that as the thumbnail for the video wasn't the best idea. Great clickbait thumbnail for some, but for me it's extremely off-putting from a channel I've really enjoyed in the past.
Editing my comment to say I checked back later in the day and I see the thumbnail has changed. Thank you Lauren for changing it if you see this comment.

This family doesn’t hunt for sport. They hunt for meat!! They consume what they kill. These boys have learned so much from Mark . Mark you are a great Father by teaching your boys skills. My Dad was a hunter & we sold all the game we killed. My mom wouldn’t cook it & she wasn’t supporting of my Dad. I’m 62 & a lady who went hunting & fishing in Indiana & Kentucky with my Dad. He taught me I skill I used when first married in 1980. Times were tuff for a 18 year old & 19 year old but I put the meat on the family table. With everything happening in Florida waters with Russian warships. These life skills will save you. SO YOU ARE GOING TO GO HUNGRY & WONT HAVE A CLUE WHAT TO DO. SADLY LIFE is going to change in America!!!! PRAYERS FOR AMERICA

I completely agree and the ignorance and intolerance of the naysayers is exactly why people choose to live in places like Alaska. We need more parents choosing to raise their children to live off the land and be more self sufficient. There are regulations put on game and wildlife and hunting is necessary to control population. Keep living life your way Mark and Lauren and I commend you for sharing your experience and knowledge with others. ❤

I'm sorry, I'm a big fan, but I couldn't watch this one. I think bears are magnificent and beautiful mammals, and I could not watch them being killed for sport. Yes, I'm sure you made use of the bears as food and I know that hunting is your way of life, but so are Costco runs and salmon fishing. I know this is an unpopular opinion, but I'm just sad watching this. Maybe I'd feel a little differently if my one-year-old golden Lab (just an animal too) weren't in the hospital after having had emergency surgery yesterday.

What an incredible part of the world you live in! Thanks so much for sharing. To the naysayers, food is expensive in Alaska, and because of the climate it isn't feasible to grow a lot of plant food. It is totally normal there to hunt and fish for food - this is part of the culture. These kids can feel really proud that they are learning how to feed their families.

So, after reading many of the comments regarding this episode, I thought I would add another comment . Several commentators seem to feel that those of us who were not shocked at the fact that this was an actual hunt for food should have been apologetic . I cannot see why , I abhor the practice of sport hunting / fishing. Posing in front of an animal you have caught /'shot , just for the "GLORY" of its size or rarity is apalling . Providing FOOD for your family is to be commended . I would far rather a gun / bow , was used for this purpose than to murder an innocent bystander. Just my opinion .

Everyone lives in a different world, and being farmers, we also kill and eat our own meat, have eggs from our own chooks and its what is normal for us, but people that live in town and cities, think it's terrible, because what they eat comes on a tray, chilled and ready to cook. And never see there food in real time.

To anyone who thinks this video is inhumane, I guess you have never seen how your meat from your store purchases was raised, killed, and processed. This is much more humane than that! This family has always been upfront and transparent that they are a hunting and fishing family and that they live off of what they take from nature and they are very thankful and respectful for nature provides them. Please don’t judge them or make false assumptions. To the Hamm family, I love all of your videos and respect your way of life, your beliefs, and the way you are raising your family, and I will continue to watch and enjoy your videos.

We live near slaughter houses! The smells are horrible and the noises are even better! One place was taken hostage because they didn't get their Christmas bonuses! State police helicoptered in and dropped bags with their checks because they were going to start processing supervisors like the animals! the animals are packed in like sardines in the slaughter trucks! They vomit, pee and crap all over! They scream and cry! They if they are lucky get knocked over the head to knock them out and then hog tied and have their neck slashed and sent on upside down still thrashing with blood gushing out! The workers wear waders because the blood runs like a river! Once drained they either get packaged raw or get cooked! Yum! So the back ends of the slaughter house smell like vomit, pee, blood and crap and the front cooked whatever they were killing that day! I had to service a machine in the break room at the ex-con place! The guard said stay on the safety mats running along the floor or you will kill yourself! The door opened and the place looked like a big lard cave! Lard was everywhere! The walls, ceilings and the ceilings! The workers in the break room were just wonderful! The language was horrific! They probably put bets on whether I would fall! I had to hold on the handrails because my shoes were covered in lard! The guard had a tub to stand in with soapy water then a scarping strip to take off the lard! He gave me a handful of wipes! He said don't forget to wipe your face and shampoo your hair twice when you go home! Your shoes will probably be ruined! I threw my shoes away and my clothes I'll never forget that smell!

Wow, this is challenging my ideals. Not saying you are wrong to hunt bear but questioning myself as to why I feel it’s ok for you to hunt moose, reindeer, fish etc and then feel all indignant about the bear. I guess provided they are not a threatened animal and that the kill is clean and respectful then it’s got to be better than factory reared meat pumped full of hormones and antibiotics.
Thank you for the thought provoking if difficult watch.

    • @jeanwatson189
      @jeanwatson189 3 месяца назад +3

It is good to have one's thoughts provoked! I think partly it might be because moose and reindeer look more like animals we are used to eating. It might also be because of the teddy bear effect, we associate bears with being cute and cuddly because they were childhood toys perhaps? But I think it is probably a better life for an animal to live free and then die instantaneously than to be reared in a factory farm, spending its life in a cage or feedlot. I think anybody who eats factory-farmed meat and then thinks somebody else hunting for meat is disgusting should think about that.
