  • Let's chat about the Blackhawk Level 3 T-series Duty holster. The fast level 3 holster I've ever used with a single button to release the hood and defeat the active retention. Solid kydex, made in the US, and compatible with the Surefire x300 or the Streamlight TLR1.

    I've used this holster for duty. Not the optic one. It was solid. I did a year-ish testing before I put it on my duty belt. You don't need the leg strap if it's a wider or stiffer belt. I'm planning to get the optic one once I have the funds. It is a super fast level 3 and with stand up to abuse.

    Once I left full on duty issued leather, I moved on in life with the Serpa. I never had a problem with not putting my booger hook on the trigger during range day when drawing and firing were measured in seconds. The problem with the Serpa is in you had to get physical with someone and it ended on the ground, debris could enter the release mechanism and jam the weapon in the holster.

      @@TiberiousGib The holster looks decent, except for the hood issue, and sticking out further than necessary. That being said, it would be an ideal for a battle belt for a woman. Over the years seeing women Agents/Officers trying to use a universal holster made mostly for guys, their hips got in the way of draw. When it was either a thigh holster or pushed out from their hip, they drew faster.

    • @aharris87

      I've seen that issues too. Even if it's on a smooth concrete floor, like in a warehouse, it can happen. Highly flawed system.

      I've never had a problem with my Level 3 Serpa and Glock 17 even when crawling in the dirt. My index finger ends up in the perfect position on the frame above the trigger and reholstering is quick and easy. The only complaint is that I can't run optics or a light with it. Because of this I'm looking at Alien Gear for a new G17 to be equiped with optics and light.
      Are the problems that other people are having with other guns like Sigs and/or beign carried with the hammer back?

  • @Paycheck708

    I was given a T series lvl III with no light or optic capability by a local Sheriff Deputy. Switched to a Safariland for the gadgets and my draw to first accurate shot went from .9 to 1.6 seconds. Still way better than the standard, but…
    I just ordered the T series for light and optic.

  • @steveh.996
    @steveh.996 Год назад +10

    Level 3 refers to how many "actions" are required to defeat retention. For Safariland, action 1: push down on the sls with your thumb. Action 2: push forward on the sls with your thumb. Action 3: sweep the als to the rear with your thumb.
    If all you have to do is push in with your thumb on this holster, it is not level 3 by Safariland standards.

      Good argument, it is held in place by three different levers but they get released by one paddle.

    • @GldenRetriever
      @GldenRetriever Год назад +1

      I have a few of these holsters and I agree. If it only takes a single button press for someone to get the gun out, it isn't a level 3. I cut the hoods off a couple of mine as it literally serves no purpose besides maybe psychological deterant. I've also cut the "lv2" to accept an optic (and to run an X300 and PL350). No complaints.

    • @86keen
      @86keen Год назад +1

      You are incorrect on what the levels mean. Level 1 is passive retention. So just the friction of the holster holding the firearm.
      A Level II holster contains an active retention mechanism in addition to the holster’s passive retention, providing two sources of retention
      A Level III retention holster has an extra retention mechanism compared to the level II holster.
      So the Blackhawk achieves 3 lvls by the following
      Lvl passive retention of the holster
      Lvl II pushing in the lever to release the hood
      Lvl III when you push in the button for the hood release that automatically pushes another button that releases the firearm from the holster.
      I hope this help in understanding lvl of retentions.

    • @86keen

    • @GldenRetriever
      @GldenRetriever Год назад

      @@86keen Agree to disagree.
      You can have a level 1 holster if you have a very loose holster with ALS.
      With the blackhawk, even if the hood and "ALS" both independantly retain the firearn, if they can be defeated with the same button/action, then I don't consider it two different levels of security, unless its compensating for a safety failure.

    This holster looks amazing and looks like a really good reliable tool but the one thing I'm hesitant about is that the button for the hood also releases the firearm from the second level of retention as well which technically makes it just a level 2 holster and makes it easier for someone to defeat all the levels of retention because it's all released with just one button push it that something I should be concerned about or is there a way that retention has to work to rease both levels of retention that gives it more security and makes it more difficult to get the gun out?

      I ran the Safariland with both the M&P as well as the Glock Gen 4 17 for over 13.5 years. Went to a new department that issued the Rapid Force from Alien Gear. Was reluctant at first but now I wouldn’t switch to anything else. l’ve never been so fast on my draw from a level 3 then I have been with the Rapid Force. It put it up against the Safariland and Blackhawk any day.

    As an Officer how often are we holstering and reholstering fast enough for it to annoy you? If it’s out its OUT, and when the work is done you reholster. Who cares if you gotta slap the dust cover out of the way. The only time that would be an issue is on the range while running the POST qualification course. If you gotta get the gun out in a real situation I’m sure the reholster is a few minutes down the chain, and also unless you work in a rough area most of us go months without actually having to deploy your weapon on duty.

    • @TiberiousGib

      What if you need to re-holster to go hands on, maybe put cuffs on?

      As an armored car driver, I drew my weapon several times a day 5 days a week! You’re not allowed to open a garage door to drive out until guns are drawn and weapon is not to be holstered until door is fully down! I drew my weapon on the street more times each week than most sworn officers draw in their entire career. My custom built .45 super barely fit through my holster due to the massive muzzle brake but was just perfect enough to not complain or be ‘annoyed’. When protecting pretty bank tellers yes this man worries about smoothness. We usually call cops after we shoot

      @@TiberiousGibif your gun is out there will likely be other units on scene. If that’s the case, you cover the offender, and someone else will cuff. Regardless, you’ll have back up on scene, but if not I wouldn’t introduce a firearm in a fight where the bad guy can close distance fast enough, and I don’t intend to use it.

    00:40 you say this holster works with the TLR 1 and 7. It certainly does not. I bought the holster at your word and failed to read the description on Staccato’s website (my mistake). It’s only compatible with SF. 169 dollars later and I have to return the holster or buy a 400 dollar Surefire when I already have a TLR. Disappointing!

      When I made the video - they had one holster for the x300, another for the TLR1 and a third for the TLR7. Looks like they've changed up the holster compatibility since, sorry for any frustration.

    That "issue" with the Serpa Holster is nonsense. I just went through a police academy with it and was never even close to a negligent discharge. Maybe people should practice with it before they condemn it.

      Just because you didn’t have an issues doesn’t mean it’s a shitty design or that they had tons of ND’s. I do agree with the training part of your comment, it’s 100% lack of training with a crappy design.
