nothing cooler than a person who is very friendly but can kick serious ass at any given time. ive been waiting forevever for someone to utilize 'effective' kicking thru out a fight esp the setups. yair rodriguez vs bjpenn was a good ex, unfortunately. mma covers two major areas, striking and grappling but in 2017 i think it will be three, punching, grappling and KICKING!
Badass episode! Valtellini is 100% correct on that most MMA fighters have singular approach on the feet and are either swarmers, or pressure-fighters, or counter-fighters. There are obvious exceptions, Garbrandt proved himself to be one. Also, being a Boxing and Kickboxing fan first and as also someone who studies striking a lot (training + reading+ studying tapes), I find that most MMA fans and media members think that walking forward and throwing loads of strikes is "pressuring". No, pressuring is throwing feints, cutting the cage, controlling the opponent with misdirection...pressure is more psychological than physical, making the opponent afraid of the strike and making him react with feints. Rant over, excellent episode.
Aniruddha Sharma You've gotta remember, most kickboxers have terrible footwork. And mma fighters even worse. (On a general basis at least.) I am an intermediate striker and amatuer fighter. Kickboxing and mma are super different!
Aniruddha Sharma U hit the nail on the head. Although the next wave of strikers are definitely taking it to the next level. (Robert Whitaker, Israel Adesanye, Darren Till, Sean O'malley, etc.) Cerebral and methodical striking is very rare in mma. But if we're being honest, mma is a sport about transitions. The best fighters are usually very well rounded and very strong in transition. Boxing and kickboxing are more about controlling distance, pace, ring control and movement
Joseph Valtelleni is truly an extraordinary martial artist with an extraordinary mind takes a special kind of guy to not just be able to do it physically but also be well spoken and analytical enough to be able to deliver that information in an easily digestible way
16:01 Sweet Jesus. He hit the nail on the head right here. I quit going to class because of this. Fuck throwing static combos all day long. Fighting is far deeper then just one aspect of what seemed to be "busy work". Distance, timing, prediction, fluidity, movement etc.
Agreed. I think back to all of my years of boxing and this was how we trained. I recently started doing kickboxing and I was amazed at how bad my fight game actually was after 8 years of boxing. Could I punch? Sure. But we never learned distance control, we never learned timing, we never learned angles. In my kickboxing class it was mentioned on the very first day that fighting is not just standing and beating the shit out of each other. Then they proceeded to teach us the B.A.D acronym, balance, angles, and distance. My mind was blown that I was thrown back to the very basics after so much boxing experience where we only cared about quantity and not quality. Valtellini is hand down one my favourite JRPodcast guests. Hes so educated and well spoken, and really knows his stuff. Like other people after this podcast i went and started watching all of his fights and he is a fantastic kickboxer!
MetusBatman V1 Wow, thats a little harsh? I didnt mean all boxing although I see now how you could interpret it like that. I meant that at my particular gym that was how we trained. It was like valtellini said some gyms think that going out and just punching and getting tired is good training when its not. When I started doing kickboxing I realised that my gym wasnt a top notch gym but it was hard to tell when i started like valtelini said.
That was a great podcast...how lucid and cognisant is Valtelini? Beautiful, informative insights into martial arts. Thoroughly enjoyed these two interact today!
27 time BJJ World Champion heres some words for you to look up you sexist, rascist, misogynistic neanderthal. let me take a guess...you'd be single, right? haha
People saying this podcast is boring is BIZARE! Jos is an excellent kickboxer and listening this episode is like picking his brain into the world of kickboxing. Although I'm not a fighter my self, I train Muay Thai and love both MMA and Muay Thai/Kickboxing. Listening to this is GOLD. If that is boring to you, I feel bad for you for not liking or understanding the sport of kickboxing.
Josh D gets more viewers which help it trend and also let the jre community comment really time. And maybe ask questions live on the show that young Jamie can pick out
Shang Tsung If the chat is cancer you get fewer views than you would without chat and judging by the normal comment section, it would be toxic as fuck.
No money is worth health. I just got out of hospital and still healing. But I just paid £4000 on a new car and was in a very bad car crash. Lucky to be alive.. all my family were told I was gonna die. I'm keeping mentally strong and gonna beat all these injuries
I love Bazooka Joe. I see him every time I would work for Glory in Chicago. Always a pleasure to see him. And how do you like that. My friend/training partner on the fight team Danny being name dropped on the podcast.
Left about 10 mins in to go watch Valtellini vs DeBonte and WOW! Unbelievable fight! Valtellini moves like a machine. DeBonte's knees to Joe's head though (especially knowing about the coming concussion) were brutal to watch. Joe looked like he never came back to his body after that. Props to these guys!!
Finally, Rogan delivers a real Fight Companion. Someone who has real fighting knowledge. Really makes you realize Brendan Schaub knows shit and Eddy chats shit. Best pod Rogan has made in ages. Real insight into a martial artist. Someone even Rogan couldn't boast his own background too, because this guy is a world champion from this decade. Top fighter too. More pods like this please Joe!!!
I mean, Brendan and Eddie have more real experience than Joe. Brendan wasn't a very sucessful UFC fighter, but did beat Cro Crop. Eddie is a world class jiu jitsu practitioner who has participated in world class tournaments.
regarding the comment where Joseph is discussing the hardening of the shin from constantly striking with it...the term is actually called woulfes law. It's when micro fractures in the bone occur causing that part of the bone to grow back stronger.
I think MMA fights should take place on a 1,000 sq-mile man-made island floating out in the Pacific Ocean, and it's filmed with helicopters and the live audience watches the fight from airplanes and helicopters also.
Best interview, topics, and dialogue in a long time. Both clearly respect each other equally, regardless of accolades. Just two dudes shooting the shit. A+
i believe at 55:15 to answer joe's question it would probably be micro fractures and also compression/stretching of muscle tendons from constantly receiving low kicks that your body is able to adjust over time so they don't do as much damage
rurzan but why even show it in the first place? He plays it, then stops it, then plays it again for a little lol sometimes I wanna see what Joe rogan is taking about but I always miss it
The view of yoga not being for men is pretty funny because when it started out if was only for men, similarly pilates was designed for rehab for veterans
There should be a app where you type in any name, and it shows you how many times they've been on as a guest, all the podcasts they've been on in timeline order, and the date. A guest finder of some sort.
What an amazing podcast. One of the best I've heard. Great guest and flow between the two of you. More of this please! These negative comments are very, very surprising.
Yeah, bruh. I like Aldo, and HATED to see him lose to Conor. But it was obvious from their last press conference (where they faced off in their suits), to Aldo's wide-eyes while first arriving at the arena, to him looking visibly unsure during his walk to the octagon. Conor was COMPLETELY in Aldo's head. I honestly think the fact that Conor so successfully got into his head, is THE main reason the loss affected Aldo so much.
jem Ogn everyone gets scared before a fight. Everyone. In my opinion, McGregor was successful in effectively planting doubt in José's head. That doubt, not only in himself but also regarding this crazy Irish motherfucker, exacerbated his fears, stiffened his movement and he ultimately panicked. To make matters worse, he got caught and slept before he was even able to shake off that feeling... It probably haunts him to this day.
Basically, Nieky Holzken decapitated him, giving him irreversible brain damage and his next fight (where he won the belt) just peeled the scabs. That Nieky fight took decades of Valtellinis life.

I watched too much twilight zone and I was in a very dark place mentally, I used this and a couple other JREs to prevent myself from going full REM. Thanks homie.
So this is turning into an MMA channel? Got to go for what works I guess, hopefully somebody else will take up the mantle for the type of interviews I used to enjoy from Joe with people like Duncan Trussell, Graham Hancock, NASA scientists, etc.. ah the good ol days.
Need more JRE with people like Milo Yiannopoulos, Louie Theroux (now his Scientology movie is out) Neil DeGrass Tyson. Graham Hancock, Randal Carlson, Brian Cox, Steven Crowder. Basically anyone interesting, however ideally someone with some conspiracy theroys. Get that Tim whats his chops called back on, the special forces MMA guy as he was recently on a show about how Hitler may fooled them all and made it out of the bunker and out of Germany! It would be interesting to hear what he has to say about it all!!!!
Great guy. Looks and sounds very friendly, is well-spoken and also well-educated. Not to mention a fantastic kickboxer. Loved this podcast!
well he is Canadian
nothing cooler than a person who is very friendly but can kick serious ass at any given time. ive been waiting forevever for someone to utilize 'effective' kicking thru out a fight esp the setups. yair rodriguez vs bjpenn was a good ex, unfortunately. mma covers two major areas, striking and grappling but in 2017 i think it will be three, punching, grappling and KICKING!
He also looks like Oscar de La Hoya
Jaoo Asiz yeah when Oscar dresses as a female
The Best MMA Fighters Overviews He's wearing a black sweater. How's that feminine?

This dude is extremely handsome, no homo. And well mannered, and eloquent. impressed by the dude.
its the Canadian weather and attitude lol
General Razor El Gato I know it makes it even better lol
DaOneJoel He's up there with Jouban and Sage! And I'm straight as an arrow
You can say a guy is good looking without specifying your sexual orientation.
For reals huh
What a nice fucking guy, Canadians! Smart as hell.
Joseph Valtelleni is truly an extraordinary martial artist with an extraordinary mind takes a special kind of guy to not just be able to do it physically but also be well spoken and analytical enough to be able to deliver that information in an easily digestible way
Agreed, very smart - well spoken - and charismatic fighter.
Totally agree with you. what an exceptional athlete, teacher and human being.
And a great instructor too. My buddy trains at his gym with Troy Sheridan. Can't say enough good things about the guy.
16:01 Sweet Jesus. He hit the nail on the head right here. I quit going to class because of this. Fuck throwing static combos all day long. Fighting is far deeper then just one aspect of what seemed to be "busy work". Distance, timing, prediction, fluidity, movement etc.

MetusBatman V1 Wow, thats a little harsh? I didnt mean all boxing although I see now how you could interpret it like that.

Evan Peel He said working mitts, moron. 8 years isn't just starting, moron. You're a moron.
This podcast has such good flow.
That was a great podcast...how lucid and cognisant is Valtelini? Beautiful, informative insights into martial arts. Thoroughly enjoyed these two interact today!
27 time BJJ World Champion you are a disgrace
27 time BJJ World Champion i dont know what sort of savage you are, but where i come from you dont call someones wife 'an asian bitch'

Why is young Jamie called young Jamie? Is that his name or is his mixtape dropping soon?
Lil young big boy Jamie, the XXX OG, haha
the legend is that young Jamie is a 100 years old. There is a hidden secret to the nick name Young Jamie.
Good question, he certainly doesn't look young. The fucker looks about 33
WolfOfWiddy he said in the ces review hes 35 i think
Joe is already 50 so Jamie is relatively young from his point of view
POWERFUL Joe Rogan congrats on 900 podcasts!
This was awesome! Bazooka Joe is probably the most well spoken fighter there is and is an amazing ambassador for combat sports
One of the best podcasts ever! Smart talented martial artist
People saying this podcast is boring is BIZARE! Jos is an excellent kickboxer and listening this episode is like picking his brain into the world of kickboxing. If that is boring to you, I feel bad for you for not liking or understanding the sport of kickboxing.
900th podcast.. and it's NOT Bill Burr who has a new special coming out soon?! Tsk tsk Joe.
ChazWick4 is Burr supposed to be on JRE soon? I know his special comes out on the 31st
Well Burr has a kid that's about to be born so they'll probably do one after that settles down I bet.
ChazWick4 Bill Burr is not funny
Dubstepping23 that's just... an uninformed opinion
Joseph Siko Right back at you
Get Dave Chappelle before the 1000th episode, also enable the chat during live shows. That is all
That be perfect for the 1000th ep!
Just what the livestreams need, some cancer.
Chat works for some shows but I'm not sure it would for these type of podcast.
Josh D gets more viewers which help it trend and also let the jre community comment really time. And maybe ask questions live on the show that young Jamie can pick out
Shang Tsung If the chat is cancer you get fewer views than you would without chat and judging by the normal comment section, it would be toxic as fuck.
if buakaw or sanchai are able to speak in english, I would like to have them on ur show man
No money is worth health. I just got out of hospital and still healing. But I just paid £4000 on a new car and was in a very bad car crash. Lucky to be alive.. all my family were told I was gonna die. I'm keeping mentally strong and gonna beat all these injuries
This is late, but i hope you recovered and are healthy

I spend ten hours a week watching Joe, easy.I think I listen to him more than actual people around me. powerful Joe Rogan
1:36:00 - Exactly!!! What Bazooka said about cross-fit is spot on, I've been saying it for years, love to hear it on the JRE.
One of the best podcast I've heard for Kickboxing
One of my favorite podcast to date. Thank you Joe Rogan.
Thanks for opening my eyes to the world of kickboxing. I've been binge watching every day for the past week and can't get enough of it
It might be just me but I think MMA should take place on a basketball court.
baseball diamond
Francisco Santiago
Hockey rink or class 2 rapids would be a game changer hehe
in a couple years...will still lulz when you're sitting at your local haunt and see MMA on a football field?
Wrestlers will take over
TRT Belfort OG soilder of God no...it would be much harder for wrestlers to hold on to u.
I love Bazooka Joe. I see him every time I would work for Glory in Chicago. Always a pleasure to see him. And how do you like that. My friend/training partner on the fight team Danny being name dropped on the podcast.
He should be a permanent edition to the show and call it the "Joe and Joe show."
I'm surprised this has only 500k views. Excellent conversation. New rabbit hole with Bazooka Joe's videos.
GET Joe LauzON
Yesh
Bryan A yes yes yes

It's good that Joe is always very respectful to fighters
woah Valtellini is from my hometown. did not expect that. much respect

Bunating G He was my coach at boozoka easily one of the best kickboxing coaches u can have
Bunating G his gym is in Scarborough I'm pretty sure
Yea but toronto isn't just " some town ". It's huge
Podcast #1000 should be 10 hours long and have all the big guests from the past switching in and out, with a few on at the same time.
to see if joe finally gonna have to piss
Kickboxing (K1) is the most underrated sport ever
One of the best podcasts for me. What a great guy!
this guy is really brilliant.
I thoroughly enjoy the podcasts with fighters. I wish they were more frequent.
bazooka joe needs to coach Ronda
Steve Visurraga Best comment of the thread.

a young Joe Rogan in the making. really inspirational individual
Joseph Bazooka has great energy . Smart . Articulate. Was fun to watch. Great podcast!
regarding the comment where Joseph is discussing the hardening of the shin from constantly striking with it...the term is actually called woulfes law. It's when micro fractures in the bone occur causing that part of the bone to grow back stronger.

Bazooka Joe! One of my favorite Glory fighters ever. LEGEND
Not a legend by any stretch of the imagination. Respect for him and skill but no where near legend status lmao.
This guy is so happy, his smile looks like it could set the building on fire
Joe always comes through with great podcasts, especially with Graham Hancock
Great fighter and a fantastic interview with Joe!
I think MMA fights should take place on a 1,000 sq-mile man-made island floating out in the Pacific Ocean, and it's filmed with helicopters and the live audience watches the fight from airplanes and helicopters also.
insane how close you were with this prediction
This guy is awesome, loved how relaxed and open he was about his training and conditioning! Hope he comes back eventually!
Good podcast. True martial artist
Always watched the clips of the shows however this time I watched it for over 2 and a half hours straight. To all involved, great show.
Great episode!
One of my favorites Joe Rogan Experience's episodes!!!
Valtellini is full of knowledge and experience as well as Rogan, amazing chat
Best interview, topics, and dialogue in a long time. Both clearly respect each other equally, regardless of accolades. Just two dudes shooting the shit. A+
Great to see joseph as a guest he seems like an amazing guy apart from a savage kickboxer, congratz on 900, keep it up jre!
I think he is one of the upcoming super coach on Canada that Robin Black is talking about.
i believe at 55:15 to answer joe's question it would probably be micro fractures and also compression/stretching of muscle tendons from constantly receiving low kicks that your body is able to adjust over time so they don't do as much damage
dang paused at 55:15 hit play again and joseph brought up micro fractures lol
One of the best guests ever.

What an amazing podcast. One of the best I've heard. Great guest and flow between the two of you. More of this please! These negative comments are very, very surprising.
Aldo was angry in the beginning.
He was scared by fight night.

Can't wait for episode #911 - Alex Jones
This guy is a Legend! thank you for getting him on!
Basically, Nieky Holzken decapitated him, giving him irreversible brain damage and his next fight (where he won the belt) just peeled the scabs. That Nieky fight took decades of Valtellinis life.
Saturday Night Special Yeah that Nieky KO was brutal.
hes too tough for his own good. True warrior
Just watched the fight and what fantastic technique Holzken has
Yup, Holzken made him look like a crash test dummy with his head spinning in circles. That was not a normal ko. Especially for a WW.
Not just the nieky holzken fight it's all built up damage from his style he always fought vets and killers so his style was pretty reckless which caused the concussions imo

+1
Graham Hancock may be entertaining, but there's no truth to what he's saying. He's paranoid and thinks scientists don't know what they're doing.
mrYsignal exactly
It's because MMA is in another boom peroid and the election cycle is over
