He only has a handful of heavyweight fights. Holyfield has essentially the same career path but a heck of a more impressive resume. 300 plus amateur 3 rounder fights is admirable but Usyk pro resume is soft .2 tomatoe cans and A past his prime Chisora knocked him around till he ran out of gas. DDD KOed him with a body shot and the ref gave him a gift. He beat AJ the 1st fight and my opinion the 2 was a draw . AJ beat him up pretty good in both fights. I think Fury won that last fight as well. Usyk wouldn’t have won if they fought in Dallas or San Antonio. Those pawing punches wouldn’t count here in Texas in a men’s bout anyway. No disrespect intended to Usyk. He is admirable and deserves the accolades. He needs to clean up the division in my opinion.

British Boxing World need to self introspect. Their biasness on British boxers is madness. At some stage we were made to believe that Fury was the GOAT. Better than prime Ali, M Tyson, Lennox, Klitcho brother etc. We were made to believe that Wilder cant fight but Fury got dropped countless time in that triology to a point there was question of long counts. He got beat by a UFC figher. He refused to give Klitcho a rematch. He was always overated.

Usyk has only had 7 heavyweight fights, but if you're comparing his all time heavyweight ranking against pre 70's guys who predominantly fought men that could be light heavyweights today, then his cruiser weight wins should be considered. Gassiev, Briedis, etc would have been huge heavyweights back then and they would even have been big heavyweights in the Ali/Foreman/Frazier era. I understand there are flaws to this logic, but comparing fighters from different eras is fundamentally flawed anyway.

which is why you need to just look at the resume. You can also take it to the bamk that athletes are always better thanks to everyone getting so much bigger and sport science improving athleticism, all opponents are more professional AND the video your opponents have on you makes it harder to stay on top.
There is a reason why there are less statistical anomalies these days like Babe Ruth or Don Bradman.

Crazy talk by Dan Rafel. Usyk is older now than when Lewis retired. He's older now than when Ali lost to Leon Spinks. He's at the age where it will go downhill, so I ask this question: What more can he do? He has done it all already in a much quicker fashion than anyone before him has. Instead of turning pro as an unfinished product and instead of beating 30 tomato cans, he kept fighting as an amateur against elite opposition and won Olympic gold in 2012 as a 25 year old. Then turned pro in 2013 and speed tracked his CW title shot campaign and became a world champion in 2016 ( 28 years old) And only 2 years later he had then beaten the entire CW division including Bellew who had gone up to HW to become undisputed ( 30 years old ) In 2019 he had his first HW fight and in 7 years he has cleaned up the entire divison to become undisputed. Now 38 years old. Like come on... He couldn't have done anything else in a better and faster fashion and there's no time for more fights. This is past the due date of any fighter. He will 100% go down as the GOAT as noone before him has achieved what he has. His next fights shouldn't mean anything even he was to lose ( although I doubt he will lose any time soon )

Usyk won both fight by a wide margin. Canadian judge was on Franks payroll in the first fight. Dan says close fight, Usyk made Fury look like a fish out of water. Dan's best attributes and what he is good at is eating junk food until his heart is content. This dude is just a writer and gets told what he has to write otherwise no income. His knowledge of what is actually happening during a fight is worse than the worst casual, he is totally clueless, knows his history , that's easy to read about, but what's happening during a fight, he is very ignorant

Everyone's entitled to their opinion and Dan usually talks a lot of sense, but saying Usyk is only 'probably' in the top 50 all time pound for pound isn't a great way to attract more substack subs.

Usyk has nothing more to prove. He's more than proved he's 1 of the Elite greats. In this Era he is the elite great.
Fury I like and support as he's our home fighter. He's done great, greater than I'd have ever thought he would. But I think the people out there labelling him as a great some even saying he's 1 of the greatest of all time, these people are delusional. He's a good boxer who's done great but he is no great.
Far from it. He's done really well for a slug kind of person who does have a decent ring IQ, is pretty fast and good on kegs for his shape and weight. But nowhere near a great.
Not a great level but definitely earned great money. So we should all be happy for him. Super financially secure.

Dan has it about right - Usyk is clearly both a tremendous boxer and super likeable too. But he probably doesnt belong in the top 10 heavyweights of all time, and as for top fighters all time (across weights), there's quite a few legends who were at least as well skilled (some outrageously so), also with historic and dramatic wins on their resume.

Watching UYSK fight it’s almost like he’s counting how many times Fury is connecting and makes sure that he lands more punches, the loss for Fury is in my opinion down to a few things but the biggest thing is that Fury didnt have any sustained pressure and as a challenger you have to be able to dominate the champ if it goes the distance and I believe the reason why Fury couldn’t sustain and pressure due to his level of fitness! Fury is such a natural boxer that surely his camp should’ve been focused his stamina endurance!

I was surprised to see Usyk winning any of the first 3 rounds on many peoples cards but equally surprised to see Fury win any of the last 6. I had it by 3 to Usyk , the same as the first fight.
Disagree with Dan on Furys gameplan , it was wrong. He didnt learn from the first fight that you can't box a boxer ; Usyks the superior boxer and the only way for Fury to win was to walk forward , be hyper aggressive , use his size and weight and try to stop Usyk within 6 or 7 risking the gas out. He didnt have the balls for it and paid the price.

I had it 8 rounds to 4 for Usyk. Besides one round every round that Fury won was a very close round and I gave some of those to Usyk. I think I was being kind to fury because I first scored it nine rounds to three. No matter what anyone says you can't say that that wouldn't have been a possible score because a few of those so-called Fury rounds were really toss-ups and he was out struck in all of them. I think the first round is the only round where he landed more punches. Also I think that Usyk was the aggressor for the entire fight and that affected who I gave the close rounds to.

Id be more interested in seeing how Usyk goes against the speed of Parker and Ruiz. Also, if he beats those two and Wilder then hes beaten all recent champions. The two American are most likely easy work due to their weaknesses, but Ruiz hand speed and Wilder trying to wing a miracle would be interesting. Parker has the quick footwork and discipline to make Usyk work hard.
Bakole and Zhamg would be interesting too. Theg both have the power to sleep him if he makes a mistake, but you do expect him to take them to deep water and drown them.

Nobody would want a third fight. Fury told us the first time he would KO Usyk and he couldn’t. Then he told us the 2nd time he’d KO him and he couldn’t again. And we know he can’t out box Usyk so he can’t do that either. If you can’t out box a guy you can GO for a KO if you want a chance to win- but I didn’t see that either- Fury came in huge but DIDNT try for the KO but instead waited to try and ‘surprise’ Usyk with a big right hand, early on, but that’s all. To me that’s not trying to KO someone. The only thing left would be to actually go for it until you’ve nothing left inside 4 rounds. But he didn’t try that either. Oh and IF he fights AJ (which I doubt personally) I think he gets ko’d by AJ.

Fury and Usyk bouts are now in the history books. Thank God for that. Usyk definitely won a relatively close fight. I had it 117-114 Usyk.
I thought since Fury was 10-12 pounds heavier for the rematch, he would come out more aggressive and put Usyk on his backfoot. That did not happen. Fury's best third of the fight was actually the last four rounds even though he lost three of them. He let his hands go, threw nearly 48 punches per round and landed over 15 per round. He should not have waited to fight an aggressive fight till then.
While he won three out of the first four rounds, I thought he was already in trouble as he did not inflict any damage to Usyk. Fury did not do anything in those first rounds or even the next four rounds to slow Usyk down for the final four rounds. In the first four rounds, he threw 38 punches per round and landed less than 10 per round. In the next four rounds, he only marginally increased his level to 41 punches per round thrown and landing just 11 punches per round.
I tried my level best to be optimistic about Sugar Hill. However I have to write that if Peter Fury was the coach, Tyson Fury would have been much more aggressive from the start of fighting in throwing and landing a variety of select punches. Prior to the fight, Peter Fury has even stated that Tyson Fury has to immediately pressure Usyk from the first bell, putting Usyk constantly on the backfoot, and then finally cornering Usyk by cutting off the ring.
Peter Fury has always stated that a fighter should never focus solely on winning rounds. He always has stated that a fighter instead should do the best he/she can do under the given circumstances to give the best performance for that night. For example, it is common knowledge Fury flopped when he fell to the floor for the 2nd time in the Wilder trilogy. He learned that from Peter Fury only. If Fury would have tried to win that 4th round, Wilder would have knocked him out.
The point is even if Fury would have lost the early rounds to Usyk by following Peter Fury's tactics, he would have inflicted enough damage then to slow down Usyk later, especially in the Championship rounds. By allowing Usyk time and space in the early and even middle rounds, he allowed Usyk to takeover the last third of the fight. That would not have happened if Peter Fury was the coach. Let's not cry over spilled milk now.
Fury came up short. While I was hopeful about his trainer, I have stated for the longest time that Sugar Hill is all wrong for Tyson Fury. Fury lacked the specific footwork, tactics, technique, and skillset needed to defeat someone like Usyk. No one will ever outbox Usyk. However no one should ever be too simplistic in fighting Usyk either. Someone like Fury still needs a mildly diverse strategy in order to defeat this southpaw. More importantly, Fury showed no aggressiveness in the early and mid-rounds. He should have actively pursued Usyk and he did not. He should have utilized a limited variety of long range jabbing and he did not.
He should have constantly come forward with a tight guard with gloves at his face and he did not. He backfooted too often and he also leaned back too often. All that did cost him dearly.
In all due fairness to Hill, Hill did tell Fury not to do that and yet Fury did. Again when Fury was not able to put Usyk on his backfoot, these things do happen.
The only but most effective way to beat Usyk is to fight Usyk the way Chisora did. Chisora constantly stepped laterally or diagonally before he lunged forward. Chisora never stood still. While Chisora lacked the speed, reach, and height to defeat Usyk, he had the right plan. If AJ, DD, or TF implemented Chisora's strategy, either would have defeated Usyk.
