I live in Alaska, where the chickens are often outside during the winter in sub-zero weather. They survive and thrive. Those of you who naysay and find fault with Adler Farms videos obviously have no first hand experience with farming or raising livestock, especially in a location where the winters are quite cold.
Smokie is perfectly happy with her goats, chickens and piggys. People amaze me by writing comments about what you should do on your farm. Have a good week from Stuttgart Arkansas.
Yeah, using tarps to make a windbreak for those windy days is a good idea 💡 Glad to see Wilma with a cozy place to get out of the weather and rest. Chickens look comfortable and cozy in their place too.
I am in CT. It’s pretty cold right now. But my family garnered in VT by the Canadian boarder. It was SO cold. They kept guard dogs and barn cats. They were very well cared for animals because they worked hard for us. They kept coyotes, wolfs , fisher cats, bobcats , mountain lions away from the farm animals. Your dog is fine.
Wells Lamont gloves are the only gloves that my father used to use any type of gloves that wells will not sold. Anytime it was time to get my Dad a gift we picked a type of Wells Lamont glove to give him... lol we always knew he'd like and use that gift. Stay happy, healthy, hydrated and safe. May God continue to bless you, your family and your adventures. Hey this should be your best one yet, may it be blessed and prosperous.
I live in Northern MN; it gets COLD here. My dogs don’t live outside as they are house dogs. But -28* F is nothing for them. My little 20 pound dogs go outside for 20 minutes at a crack. Smokey is just fine! We have Great Pyrenees pure breads and mixes that have the same thick coat, the colder it is the more coat they grow. My guardian is retired as I no longer have goats or sheep, and she goes BATTY if we don’t keep her busy. But she is 8 now and has settled so does okay inside with frozen treats
I owned a Shiloh German Shepherd, he had a thick under coat , absolutely hated being brought in the house . He would sleep in snow banks , even though he had a insulated dog house. And it would get deadly cold here in Nova Scotia Canada . But nowadays it is not allowed to leave your dogs outside. People report you to the Animal Control . Heck birds , squirrel, deer and so on live outside all winter.
Instead of an ax to break up the ice you might consider just a "t-post" you can lay down close to the Highlands water bowl. If you have gloves on it's pretty easy to break up ice with that metal. That's what we did anyways. Love the critters.
You are preaching to the choir here regarding your dog liking the cold weather! My great Pyrenees has a 10'x10' kennel with an igloo in it, where he sleeps at night. When the cold arrives I put straw out for him. I put some in his dog house a this year I just left the rest of the bale for him to distribute. First thing he did was to remove the straw from the dog house and then he scatters the rest of the bale all over his kennel! 🤣 he's pretty much done this since he was a puppy! It's entertaining to watch.
You just make my day light with laughter brother! Grandpa did Wilma a wonderful shelter, and I do think the tarps for the fold is a great idea. Thanks for the glove lead. It's still gonna be cold in March when I come up after the Expo. Got my shirt and ticket for day 3. Blessings, Texas Deb 😁
Pigs love to root for their food. Smokey would hate to be indoors. She is so happy outside and the cool/ cold weather is her favorite!! I miss my farm. Farm animals know how to keep warm in the cold weather. They have lived for years outdoors.
Looks like you got snow!!! None here in central Kentucky but have lots coming Thursday. It was 22 degrees here this morning. By weekend, it is suppose to be 10 degrees …. Wow. Lol Smokey is funny. She loves you.
I live with a Great Pyrenees mix in the Kansas City area so we can get cold. My girl is happiest when she is outside monitoring her property. Miss Smokie is very happy with and lucky to have her animals to take care of.
A small portable carport with tarps on the end for wind break would be perfect. Easy to move and could serve as shelter for others down the road or even eventually a tractor cover!
Wow 7 degrees 😳. Livestock dogs love it outside. Smokey is great she loves running. She would tear the house up. Listen to those bacon babies. 🥓.Good looking fold. Love your sense of humor..God bless .
So do I love them . So fun and beautiful. Yes, I do seethe frost…. They know the bucket!!! Love love them. windbreak sounds like a good idea…. Wow that is interesting how she is licking the glove. Lol. Yes, maul …. She is in charge. Lol lol. Sweet. Tessie’s horns are really growing. They were thirsty.
My dog Bear, who is Great Pyrenes/Black Lab mix HATES being in the house in the winter. He wants to be outside in the cold. He also gets the zoomies like Smokey....lol
It amazes me how many people don't actually have any idea where their food comes from. Nothing wrong with having a pet that stays in the house with you but farm animals are made, were created to be outside.
Had a Austrian Shepherd and he loved the cold even when it snowed. I worked a farm you several years until my father in law sold it. So I do not judge. I know what it is like. The people who judge has not ever had to take care of a farm. I give you kudos for what you do.
A Little alfalfa for the goats would be good too. It helps them keep warm in cold climate. Blue cactus dairy goats is a good place to find info on Nigerian dwarf goats!
Al and Gina had -1° F on their video this morning, and they looked dressed for 50°.... lol Talk about accustomed to the cold! Super great family, but no Adler, Smokey, or McFred and McFold...lol Love ya'll ❤
Chad, did you see Gary’s water heater? I’m pretty sure his isn’t galvanized . Gramma time is the best! I love watching the highlands play. They are so beautiful!
I'm retired now, but in my working days I drove a school bus (30 yrs). In the middle of winter it happened every year we had days that there would be a wind chill temp of -50° below zero. Fortunately now they run diesel engines and they plug in so they start. LOL I drove long enough ago that I remember the gasoline engines and their fuel would freeze in the lines but of course it never stalled until you got out somewhere. Talk about miserable cold with kids on the bus. Was an interesting career. It's suited me just fine I loved it! Oh I should say that I live in mid Michigan. The middle of the mitten. I hear in the upper peninsula it got even colder. Glad I was in mid Michigan LOL.
You are doing an amazing job explaining what you are doing, why you do it and how the animals react, do and live in the proper environment! WELL DONE!!
Adler with his baby blue and that gorgeous smile. Case wanting to go back to homeschooling or still looks forward being around friends? We had a Samoyed and Pyrenees they LOVED burying themselves in the snow and never wanted to come in during the winter 😆 only time they wanted in was summer because of the a/c 😂😂 am in the northeast. Have a good evening ❄❄❄
We’re just north of Winnipeg, Manitoba up here in Canada. Our friends Great Pyrenees Stays outside all year, and it sometimes gets to -45 Celsius, which I believe is the same in Fahrenheit. Your pup is still very warm in the temps you’re getting now, Chad.
I grew up within an hour of Chad's farm. In this part of the country, we often have all 4 seasons in a day, especially during fall and winter, lol. This last week and a half, we've had temps ranging from the teens to the 70s.
I like the wood trick in water bends , growing up going out to feed and water chickens rabbits and our 2 goats and our big dogs water dish would have to find away to get frozen ice broke to put water , Adler your so cute and funny love watching you and hearing you talk

There are some dogs that are bred to be outside dogs in the cold. Husky, St. Bernard and of course Smokeys breed. People don't know everything and just think they do. They need to read up on breeds and understand more about them. Just keep doing what you're doing. Love it!
yep my malamute/wolf hybrid hated being inside in the winter, he loved it in the summer due to the air conditioning though when temps hit 90+ deg. Newfoundland's are another breed that prefer outside. Honestly just ignore them Chad, they don't know nothing or they are too busy listening to people like PETA and HSUS who know even less about animal/livestock care.
@@dakotawinds9291 yep!! We had a Chow mix. She was our guard dog for the chickens and if dogs took money- you couldn't pay her enough to go inside. Especially during the winter. Hey y'all, Last week on Monday Dec 27th we went below 32 F. We have been below 32F ever since going on 9 days now today we did get to 30F. We were below 0F for almost 48 hours. -18 was the coldest. I saw bunnies running all through the yard a couple of squirrels also that was -12F. I thought I should bring them blankets and ponchos with some tarps but if I did they would run away and I would never catch them and they would still be sitting in the snow laughing at me. Then the neighbor's cat came strolling by I do not think she knew it was cold. Thank you for your wonderful videos. They have been a great help getting thourgh this past 20 days of sorrow. Nice to get a reason to laugh. With you'll on farm and kids. You doing it right keep up the good work.

When I used to help take care of field board horses during the winter in Maryland, the farm owner kept a mattock and a garden hoe with a short handle in the farm truck. We would break the ice and use the hoe to pick the bigger pieces out without getting our hands wet.

Frost on the cows backs means their fur is working to insulate them, keeping their body heat close to their skin. Same thing with Smokie.
Nice house for Wilma…. Love how he takes care of her.

Glad to see Wilma with a cozy place to get out of the weather and rest.

He is just so adorable. That laugh and love his bare feet.
Great Pyrenees would rather sleep out in a snow bank than come in the house.. I know.. 'cause mine did! And I live in Canada! LOL
Lol I didn't shave my English cocker this year he'd rather lay outside in the snow if he's inside he sleeps on the floor hugging his industrial fan 😆

Hello CHAD I REALLY ENJOY watching your VIDEO stay warm outthere
A highland cow can survive on sparse browse and thrive. On grass like you've got, plus that great hay, they will grow and fatten nicely! Evidently your critics haven't seen the vile weather in Scotland that they do quite well in. Lol
Personally I think the noise from the tarps when the wind blows would scare them. Until they got used to the noise.
They are used to it already, the new tarp area animals were comfortable, not showing any anxiety.
