So I just joined this year as a flute player and felt like I would never get this song, and so far it’s looking like I won’t 😭 I will just keep practicing I guess. Any tips you could give?
When I need to learn a new song fast, I take it chunk by chunk (A line a day, a breath mark a day). By that, I mean I break it into pieces to learn individually before I piece them all together. If I struggle on a particular part, I skip it and just learn the easier parts before I come back to it. When I'm learning a tough part, I keep repeating it over and over until the muscle memory helps me to play with more precise fingers. It helps to break fast runs into individual chunks (eighths, sixteenths, etc) at tempo because I've found that just playing it at a slower tempo makes my fingers get used to the slower movement. Also, keep your fingers close to the keys instead of lifting them high to fix slow fingers. I know everyone says this, but practice your scales! This piece is full of scales and arpeggios. Most importantly, play confidently! I've heard so many people know the music well but their tone is so weak and timid! Always find time to practice; if you feel like practicing but get thoughts like "I'm tired" or "I'll do it later" you need to ignore them and practice anyway. The only way to get better is through practice. For measures 6 and 8, it's okay to practice them slowly to let the lower notes really speak. I recommend practicing your higher register with chopsticks in your mouth so you're not overexerting your facial muscles and so you get a nice, clean tone. If you're auditioning for region band or something similar, it doesn't matter if you play fast, it matters that you sound good. There are going to be people who just fly through the music, and don't let that discourage you. Just keep working at it and you'll be amazing!
The less movement you have in your face for those big leaps the better. Focus on aiming your air to the right place rather than thinking about changing your embouchure. If you're having trouble making the slur sound smooth, practice tonguing the leaps first to learn where to aim your air. I hope this helps! Happy practicing 🎶
On IMSLP. This is the link to collection that this etude is in and where I got the sheet music from. This is etude Op. 33, No. 9 in Book 2 of Kohler's etudes. imslp.org/wiki/Der_Fortschritt_im_Fl%C3%B6tenspiel%2C_Op.33_(K%C3%B6hler%2C_Ernesto)

what tempo are you going?
At about half note = 45. I like to feel this etude in 2 to feel the groove better
Is there any tips for the first 14 measures
Practice by section with your biggest enemy the metronome at low tempo until u get after😊😊
