I found it fascinating that Americans call budgies parakeets because some dude thought saying budgerigar was to hard lol it’s easy though Bud-ja-ree-gar 😊 My little guy lost his parent 5 years ago she’s about 15 yr old now. The little old lady doesn’t have long left, I’m extra thankful each day she’s still here. Thank you for taking the time to make this content to keep her and others company 😊
I just bought my 2 parakeets yesterday and they are not active and are always afraid because they are not used of the new place so I’m trying to make them comfortable as much as possible. This really helped them every time I put this video on they are chirping and excited and eating and drinking
Just got two yesterday! They have been very quiet and were not eating. I played this for them and 10 m later they’re chirping and started eating. They’re new to each other and the environment. Hoping this will help them open up!
Thank you, Budgie Nation. My male, Parakeet Emerald, lost his female mate Lily and is all alone now. I played this for him and they seemed to be attentively watching it while chirping up a storm. They were then quite active. I think it helped them a bit. Thank you! You have my gratitude and honor. ♥︎♥︎*bows in respect*♥︎♥︎
Thank you so much for the on-going story. Our Olive died last year and for the first time ever we have only one parakeet. We had eight at one point (four were home born!). I kept Sundrop steady company for six months, plus RUclips, plus he has a window where outside birds feed right by the window sill (clear glass making a mysterious barrier which baby sparrows stare through and one dove (stubborn) periodically refuses to believe in. A hawk patrols this feeding area, so drama happens. Sundrop has adjusted wonderfully, training me to fill whatever gaps he finds in his world. At age 86, it is great to have such a beautiful, brilliant roommate. And this awesome bird gives intimacy to my disabled grandson (age 34), loving this man so joyously, my grandson feels the dignity that being loved and needed gives. The stubborn dove just flared against the invisible barrier yet again. I understand that war.
Hi there I was reading your comments and I was wondering if you have any advice on keeping a male bird by himself once his mate passes. Should I get him another female right away or should I wait? Any help would be so appreciated. I’m so sad and don’t know what to do.
@@kikizoogramma7777 we had exactly that situation last year. Happily I am old and can be with Sundrop A LOT. Also he has his own room, RUclips, a window where I have feeders by the window. He has food dishes and rocks on his window sill, so he can get A LOT of flock gratification by eating with the doves and sparrows etc that seem to be touchable. Yet even with all that I fretted and wanted to get a companion bird. Only because I am too old to go through the whole taming and acclimating process have I persisted in keeping a single bird. My disabled grandson (age 34) adores Sundrop and visits him often and regularly. They have a STRONG wavelength and can just be with each other and both are nourished. All living creatures need PRESENCE every day. We all need the fact of our existence validated every day. I’m not good at this, but I try. Talking with this bird person (Sundrop) is mandatory. Sundrop has trained me to pay attention and he also uses body language to communicate with me. Turning his back on me means I messed something up. If you get another bird, your bird will love it, but he will invest much more in his co-specie friend and won’t work at teaching you how to make his life (captive) bearable. But then again, every bird is unique. We had another single bird, Sunshine. All her life she had had LOTS of cage mates and it was quickly clear she would not adjust. That was before I used RUclips and the outside birds, which may have helped. To perk her up we got Sundrop and Olive. Sunshine was old and died a few years later. Olive died young (age 6). Sundrop is now seven and with A LOT of apparatus (plants, window swings, rocks, and me as his personal servant, he has a great life. I hope this is some help. It’s terrible living with a lonely bird person. Talk to him and see if you get a message. The talk alone is good and comfort all by itself. My heart and prayers are with you.
My parakeet Vanilla died yesterday, and her friend is left all alone, so I’m playing this for him. 🫶❤️🦜 Edit: we got another parakeet for our lonely bird and they are already getting along really well! Edit: we got two more! We have four crazy, but definitely not lonely birds now 😊
Brought home budgie! perched still and was quiet as soon as I put him in the cage :( but as soon as I played this he perked up, chirped and starting eating! Happy budgie :D gotta get him a friend
My service dog Jake, a Bichon mix, just loved the parakeet videos. We too have a parakeet in our happy family of three. Need to get a video of him watching the videos. It's hilarious.
My Angel passed a month ago and I have been trying to get close to the other, Winter, but it's been so hard. I would uncover them saying "Mornin' birdies" or by name, starting with Angel then Winter because I got them almost a year apart. Angel was very social and would ring her bell each morning to say "We're up!!" and it's been so quiet since Winter is scared. We'll whistle to each other when I'm not in view but it's not the same. I haven't been as involved as I could have been with them together but at least they had each other. I want to get another bird but I had Angel for FOUR years, Winter for three. I don't know how Winter will be with a new bird and could get bullied easily. It hurt like hell when she died and I can't even think of what budgie could be with Winter now. Listening to this got some much needed chirps and twitters from her and I thank you ❤🩹
Mr Charlie crossed over the rainbow bridge 2 days ago. I have been playing this for his mate Bell. She has been so sad and quiet. This has her talking again, She is still looking for Mr, Charlie though. They have been mates for 9 or 10 years. I know it's hard on her.
My male parakeet died yesterday, he was only 3 years old. For the first 6 months he was lonely, but liked playing with bunch of toys and in the age of 5 months old was able to talk words “baby-Bay” and “give me kiss” very clearly in English, then at Christmas I brought to him female and she hates him, always try to bite and scared away from food dish. I think he got sick and died from broken heart. And yes, they always had two cages with many dishes with food and water, it didn’t help. And I was trying to lock him in separate cages far from her abuse but he was screaming crazy and wanted back to her. My question how is your several parakeets in the same cage get along so well, nobody bites each other.?
The more birds you have, the better they will all get along. Imagine being forced to have the company of a random person... FOREVER. If that person isn't the right person for you, you're going to be miserable, irritated, scared, grumpy, etc. So, having options helps. It also helps to have other birds to help "police" the actions of each other. A large cage also helps tremendously.
