I think it's funny that in d06_sci02_contact he says "some kind of energy from the other side" while in HL1 the scientists tell you it's held open by some "entity" on the other side, which means one of the pieces of continuity is that between these two parts the scientists discovered more about the Nihilanth.
Gina in my personal opinion, is one of the good Half-Life characters that is small but plays a impact into the Black Mesa Incident. She may be dead but she died serving her protecting for a grumpy mean old man.

The "that orange really brings out your eyes" line was reused in Black Mesa when you would chat with guards in chapter two, pretty cool. The guard that seems most likely to say this the one guarding the sector B airlock, the same guard where you get the Glock 19 from.

I gotta say thank you PurpleColonel for making these videos! I’m a Half-Life fan for about Half of my entire life now (pun intended), or ~10 years. And I literally can not get enough of videos on RUclips about Half-life, whether it be random unknown lore such as this, or even just analyses and recaps of the lore, I’ve seen pretty much every RUclips video essay there is about half life. Kinda feels like an obligation, and has been my way of coping with waiting for episode 3 I guess. So thanks for providing this content! Yeah he has baby pictures in his locker but theres no real mention of his family Did Gordon have a family but they died in Black Mesa? Does no one in two mention them cause they think it'd be too awkward or painful? Is Gordon a single dad? Or are the baby pictures just of Alyx.
According to the Half-Life 1 manual (PC version manual) he has no dependants and isn't married. (yes they specify he isn't married, he could have a GF or Fiancee though)
I like the idea of having a choice of two playable characters that are both related to each other, and who will both have an impact on the story no matter which one you pick. Also, Gordon being married to the other protagonist would have been interesting. It's a shame they couldn't fit those ideas in.
2:08 Because Black Mesa have always intended to send HEV users to Xen. They train you to traverse in general dangerous scenarios, give you a bit of weapons training, and then slap you into the alien dimension. It's also why the HEV suit has weapon and ammunition monitoring, so the science team can know when you're low on supplies, and presumably, teleport equipment to your location in Xen via your suit's tracking device.
I remember hearing somewhere that part of the cut ending to Decay involved the wheelchair man betraying Gina and Colette as the nuclear weapons go off in a large reference to the ending of Doctor Strangelove

When you mention the bit with the guns in the Hazard Course, I like the explanation that actually comes as part of the Hazard Course intro, for the most popular mod that adds the Hazard Course to Black Mesa. In it, Gordon wasn't actually supposed to get firearms training. A clerical error somewhere along the line signed him up for it, and they went ahead since it was all set up. (Or, this is G-Man pulling strings. It would make sense, and given what he can do....I don't think you can ever DISPROVE his involvement. Nor really prove it either, but it's G-Man. Mysterious interference where you're not sure he even did it is his thing.)
lets not forget that rossenberg is also the guy that made the Anti-Mass Spectrometer , as he say in his first appearance in Decay , making him peraphs one of the most important people responsible for the events of half life by accident

Interesting, Half Life 1, Opposing Force and Decay, have their own final bosses but in Blue Shift, you face the grunts in the final part but still they are not the boss of the game. The player takes control of the most known character to this day along with Freeman, Barney, playing as a security guard from Black Mesa which in his final moments in Black Mesa did not face any bosses but grunts. That is quite weird, valve should have supposed to create a powerful boss for Blue Shift to make it more interesting when Barney was been sent to the xen and come back after finishing the boss's life. I hope they did not create it because Barney is just a normal security guard and useless just like the others.
Valve didn't make Opposing Force, Blue Shift, The HD models, Half-Life (PS2) Hazard Course and Decay, that was licensed out to GearBox. (yes the PS2 Hazard course was remade by GearBox and is noticeably different to the PC hazard course)

Decay was only forgotten because it was a quintessential PC game that became a PS2 exclusive, and was co-op only If decay was released on PC and had a modified single player mode, I guarantee it wouldn't have been forgotten in the void
For me Gina and Colette are still alive (and i dont care what Randy or Gabe says). Is more logical that Rossenberg just picked up Keller, Gina and Colette with that car and just escape. The three being highly rank scientists could easily know how to escape Black Mesa, just first they had to close the portal. It doesnt make any sense that Gina appears in Xen, why did she do that? Is unnecesary. Also Colette being in Gman freezer? No way Randy Dumford, since Gman clearly doesnt care about both scientists at the beginning of Decay. Cmon Randy, i respect you for doing Half Life on PS2, one of the best ports from PC to a console in history, but this is just dumb.
I mean, to give credit to black mesa, they seem to have known about the dangers of xen and known things could fuck up, so maybe that’s why they trained the HEV scientists to handle a MP5

Regarding this Opposing Force's "Easter Egg", No matter what Randy says, I'm sure this Gina is not Gina, because it uses her *Multiplayer Red Suit* model, so since it's a Multiplayer model it could mean that it's literally any Woman from Black Mesa whatsoever since it's not her canon model, and also Gina never wore Red Suit, only Orange and White ones! So no, It's not Gina Cross in this Opposing Force's "Easter Egg".
If I had to guess why the HEV training in Half Life is the way it is, is because it's a way to get the user familiar with all of it's functions and how it's to be used. I think the HEV suit is meant to be a all round general protection suit for dealing with any hazardous environment, be it radiation spills, military conflicts, wreckages, industrial matainance, anything where user needs protection. That's why it's got a munitions monitor, gigarcounter, chemical detection system. It's the answer to any hazard. I'm guessing it's still in testing when the Black Mesa incident hit and Gordon was probably a participant in testing it. The "training" is there to make sure the user knows all it's functions, then it's put to practical use in Black Mesa, with the data created from this use being loged in the suit or something. That might explain why there's a tracker in the suit, it's because it's sending user data to Black Mesa servers.
2:03 All of that actually has a good reason, because the field scientists who experiment with teleportation need to be prepared to handle the possibility of facing hostile alien creatures and also facing the hazardous environments from the world that these creatures come from.
The Game Decay ending, It takes place Before Gordon's Capture. But when they See Barney entering a Portal. It can Take place Right when Gordon is being Captured.
Honestly, Gabe was spot on about Lara Croft. She might have been designed with heavy honkers but in the PS1 games she was basically written as if she were a classic badass 90s male lead. The only time she was sexualized was marketing, which the devs at core design had nothing to do with. I'll admit there would probably still be just as much r34 though, can't change human nature. Interesting, Half Life 1, Opposing Force and Decay, have their own final bosses but in Blue Shift, you face the grunts in the final part but still they are not the boss of the game. The player takes control of the most known character to this day along with Freeman, Barney, playing as a security guard from Black Mesa which in his final moments in Black Mesa did not face any bosses but grunts.
That is quite weird, valve should have supposed to create a powerful boss for Blue Shift to make it more interesting when Barney was been sent to the xen and come back after finishing the boss's life.
I hope they did not create it because Barney is just a normal security guard and useless just like the others.
Valve didn't make any of the other Half-lifes other than 1,2, Ep1 and Ep2

Valve didn't make Opposing Force, Blue Shift, The HD models, Half-Life (PS2) Hazard Course and Decay, that was licensed out to GearBox.
(yes the PS2 Hazard course was remade by GearBox and is noticeably different to the PC hazard course)

Is more logical that Rossenberg just picked up Keller, Gina and Colette with that car and just escape. The three being highly rank scientists could easily know how to escape Black Mesa, just first they had to close the portal. It doesnt make any sense that Gina appears in Xen, why did she do that? Is unnecesary. Also Colette being in Gman freezer? No way Randy Dumford, since Gman clearly doesnt care about both scientists at the beginning of Decay. Cmon Randy, i respect you for doing Half Life on PS2, one of the best ports from PC to a console in history, but this is just dumb.

If I had to guess why the HEV training in Half Life is the way it is, is because it's a way to get the user familiar with all of it's functions and how it's to be used. I think the HEV suit is meant to be a all round general protection suit for dealing with any hazardous environment, be it radiation spills, military conflicts, wreckages, industrial matainance, anything where user needs protection. That's why it's got a munitions monitor, gigarcounter, chemical detection system. It's the answer to any hazard. I'm guessing it's still in testing when the Black Mesa incident hit and Gordon was probably a participant in testing it. The "training" is there to make sure the user knows all it's functions, then it's put to practical use in Black Mesa, with the data created from this use being loged in the suit or something. That might explain why there's a tracker in the suit, it's because it's sending user data to Black Mesa servers.

Honestly, Gabe was spot on about Lara Croft. She might have been designed with heavy honkers but in the PS1 games she was basically written as if she were a classic badass 90s male lead. The only time she was sexualized was marketing, which the devs at core design had nothing to do with. I'll admit there would probably still be just as much r34 though, can't change human nature.
