      ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Try looking for Shell Cordovan Leather Saddle Shoe. Are a modern I think from the laces. (Saddle Shoes lost popularity by the 60's.)

  • @steveledbetter5613
    @steveledbetter5613 4 года назад +8

    Vetiver, why do you use saddle soap dry? It’s used with water and worked into a lather. I’ve seen you use soaps on nubuck with lots of water, so I assume you have a reason. Help me understand.

    • @Cemmos
      @Cemmos 4 года назад +2

      Old comment, but other people might come across it like I have. I would imagine it's because it's easy to create water spots on shell cordovan, and the water spots are somewhat hard to get out. So some people avoid using water to clean shell. But not everyone, and not me personally. Cleaning shell with water is perfectly fine and it shouldn't actually spot unless you leave droplets on there to dry. Particularly if you're going to condition/polish them after using water anyway: those are the best things to get water spots out. Some people actually _only_ use water (damp rag) to clean shell cordovan and swear by it. One person I've seen on RUclips, from Japan, rinses the entire shoe under a faucet and the shoes/boots he works on come out looking great. So at the end of the day, it's really just down to preference. Shell is quite a resilient leather.

    What is the sleeking bone for?

    • @melkenshawn
      @melkenshawn 4 года назад +5

      It's for restoring oils to the cordovan leather and smoothing it out. It's pretty interesting as they usually use a deer bone, and it's only used for shell cordovan leather.

    • @igornyoman9840

      @@igornyoman9840 I actually don't know their differences to be honest. So I went to google it, and it turns out it serves the same function, and it comes down to to personal preferences on which is better. Hope that helps!

    • @Cemmos
      @Cemmos 4 года назад +2

      A deer polishing bone (or water buffalo, which I mostly see being used in Japan) helps to remove creases and marks from shell cordovan leathers while distributing oils/waxes. Unlike other leathers, shell cordovan can actually have much of its "rolls" removed by using a bone. Rolls on shell are what creases are to traditional leathers, as shell doesn't crease and simply rolls. An alternative to using a bone is the back of a spoon. Just be sure to use a conditioner if a spoon is used, so there are oils for it to slide properly and avoid scratching. Deer polishing bones have oils in them already, although it's still good to have some conditioner on the shoe either way.
