No sign of any digestive distress with any of those. I think the digestive system is much hardier than we think. I do believe that you can take too much VOLUME at once, to begin with, but the types of foods might not matter as much (With one exception. My original fasts 40 years ago were broken with fruit and that always led to bowel urgency).
@@ninajefferson767 since that last post, I've pretty much decided that the emphasis should be on short chain saturated fatty acids for the immediate revitalization of the intestinal lining. Dr. Fung has now changed his mind about breaking a fast with any kind of nuts; he has found that they are too hard on the digestive system. I heard this on a podcast by Meghan Ramos who works with Dr. Fung.

Then an hour later have a small tomato cucumber salad with a drizzle of Olive Oil. Then an hour after that I eat 4 oz of lean protein (usually wild salmon or other lean fish). See how your body reacts. Wait a little bit. If you're still hungry eat a simple green salad with lemon and olive and a bit of lean protein. So a double bean burrito, a deep fried Snickers bar, and a slur-pie should be avoided... to avoid 'Disaster Pants'. Good advice... I need a coffee mug to remind me !
A small quantity of nuts work really well as an initial break for me, followed by something like scrambled egg. Grains (back when I used to eat them!) were a complete disaster for me. Next meal: back to normal, although for me, that's mostly red meat or oily fish.
Fantastic, great accomplishment, btw I heard Dr. Rhonda saying that people with persistent high morning blood glucose after many months of keto diet, tried time restricted eating and that propelled them to the next level... are you both doing something similar? and for Dr. Keith: don't hate carbs, maybe you just need them, sometimes the refeeding period is where the magic lies
Yes I'm curious. Because keto can be tricky. You're up and down all the time you go up to lb and then you go down three. when fasting your getting nothing and then when you eat I'm wondering how much water weight your body locks onto
WIthout solid food means he could have juice or broth, or was it only water? It does make a difference! Nuts (very solid and arguably also very dry) and after 90 minutes directly a normal meal sounds dangerous to me after a 10 day water fast, but if the book says it is good maybe it is (if he could have juice/broth this is of course another story). Other sources (clinic in Russia according to Cezar Elisei, who did a 40 day water fast in that clinic, and now is building his own clinic and who has a business with regard to therapeutic fasting) suggest after a 7 day water fast: day 1: liquid food such as diluted apple juice or diluted orange juice (1:1 dilution) I think he also mentions broth including vegetable broth as a possibility as an option, day2: morning: juice, than starting with lunch vegetable broth including the bolied vegetables (he mentions peppers and boiled not fried onions), spinach (boiled), polenta and combinations thereof. On day 3 he says fruits are allowed, boiled fruites (with the water in which they were boiled), day 4 can include "bread croutons". I kind of ignored that and ate raw grapefruit and raw brocolli on the first day after a 7 day water fast, and another time after a 3 day dry fast and not much eating before that I ate something that had oil and pea protein in it (vegan protein balls, bad idea), and I felt rather dizzy and weak as a consequence, and the digestive system was also not OK (took a week or two to recover to normal). Did not try nuts, at least I would make a nut milk (I think he suggests on day 4 something like oatmeal, with vegan milk if one is vegan in that period). The third time I tried, after a 74 hours dry fast (did have approximately a tablespoon of water twice, so not completely dry, but still), I had no time to feel dizzy and weak so I tried to keep the first 2 days as he says even though I felt fine and believed that the solid food is acceptable: I actually ate boiled vegetables after 14 hours after the first diluted juice, and there was only slight disconfort following that, no fainting or feeling dizzy). Better safe than sorry I guess. I am assuming 3 days dry fast is equivalent to 9 days water fast because the internet seems to believe that, and therefore I am concluding that the recovery period should be similar to 9 days and 6 hours water fast: the phases of the recovery are supposed to be proportional to the water fasting time. Maybe the digestive systems of different persons are different and what the diet was before the fast and the general state of the person matters, and possibly a calm environment, for me in any case attempting to follow the rules will be standard from now on (at least I will not attempt to eat on day 1 food that should only be introduced in days 3 or 4 like raw fruits and raw brocoli, or fried things(heated protein balls which had oil in them)).
I broke my WF with Eggs. First Day had 4 scramble Eggs, it was to Heavy , but Second Day had few Hard Boiled Eggs and I am feeling good, only OMAD with Eggs. I was doing 14 Days WF and my Body asking me for some Food. OMAD with Eggs worked for me

Better than when eating. Plan to break the fast with half an avocado and a can of sardines. I wonder, Keith, if the holidays threw off your metabolism?
Congrats with the 10 day fast, If I may ask you, to be in ketosis you have to be low carb, if you eat fats but a few more carbs you get knocked out of producing ketones but your not eating enough carbs to maintain your energy levels for the day so you must still be burning fats. or am I missing something (low blood sugar, glucagon kicks in, liver starts making ketones) So if your liver is switching back & forward between sugar & fat will that not become the norm for the liver.

Hi Docs, any chance you could do a test and see if CBD oil, an eye dropper size dose will break a fast? I'm seeing a ton of conflicting information, and would love for it to be tested.
Bone broth is best for gut, followed by prebiotics and then after an hour 50g of lean protein. Trying to digest actual food would create instant disaster pants for me. Bad idea
I'm on hour #60 & about to give up. A bit disappointed that I felt pretty lousy yesterday - say hours 42 - 51. I'm still waiting for the "euphoria" I've heard a lot about. Why didn't it happen? Would love help!
I know this isn't the usual problem people have , but I can't be the only one. First thing in the morning my glucose level is usually 3.5 - 3.6. I know this is officially considered a bit too low, but as I've always felt absolutely fine at this level it didn't worry me. This morning it was 2.6 ( 12 hour fast and still felt ok, ) but I've got it up to 3.6 with butter in my coffee and I'm about to eat some fruit as a healthy way to get sugar into my system. (I'm rather hesitant to start eating the things I now avoid as I get hellish migraines when I do, or at the very least feel crappy). This made me wonder what an extended fast would do. Longest I've done is about 2 1/2 days and I didn't check my blood as I didn't have a meter then. Should I avoid fasting? I don't do it for weight loss but to maximise autophagy, and I always feel pretty good with loads of energy. Could my meter or the strips be faulty? I don't want to do myself damage.
If you're carefully monitoring your readings and how you feel as well as getting enough electrolytes, I would think you should be fine. I've found that it's not as beneficial for me.
@@2FitDocs Thanks for getting back to me so quickly. My instinct was to go by how I feel, but wanted to check with an expert. I have a feeling my doctor would not sympathise with my keto and fasting.

Keith has never done an extended fast, he did a bone broth diet... I demand he does a real fast without the bone broth so he can have the expertise to talk about fasting 😆😆😆. This reminds me of vegans who eat fish and claim to be vegans 🤣. I’m on day 5 of a 10 day fast and I already lost 9 pounds. Fasting is amazing and unbelievable, I never thought I could go for more than 3 hours without food but now I know it’s posible!
IF and keto are not mutually exclusive. IF only refers to extending your non-eating hours while condensing your eating window and can be done whether you're keto or not. Keto refers to getting your body into a state of nutritional ketosis where your insulin is kept low enough to initiate ketone production.
@@Bhatmann probably because it is completely unnecessary after an extended fast. During a fast, generally you're either gonna be shitting through the eye of a needle, or barely going at all. Both of which will leave you with almost nothing in your colon. Anything that remains will be expelled the next time you launch a torpedo. At best, just take REALLY good probiotics at the end to reset your internal bacteria. I could MAYBE see the potential benefits of having an enema BEFORE the fast, but not during or after.
its a big deal how you break a prolonged fast, if you dont do it right, disaster pants is the least of your problems.. There is something called re-feeding syndrome which can be life threatening. This doesn't really apply to people who just do a few days, this is more applicable to those that do 21 to 40 days water fast....Feed too fast with the wrong things it can send your electrolytes haywire, put you into a Coma and heart failure...
Refeeding syndrome has to do with the sudden introduction of certain electrolytes that can interfere with the electrical function of the heart. That's the main reason electrolyte supplementation is emphasized on an extended fast.

I'm on hour #60 & about to give up. A bit disappointed that I felt pretty lousy yesterday - say hours 42 - 51. I'm still waiting for the "euphoria" I've heard a lot about. Why didn't it happen? Would love help!
It didn’t hit me until day 6
Solids on day of?
Wow thats over half your carbs in just the little snack! I thought that would be the worst idea since you fast to get rid of carbs.
Is beef broth good for breaking a fast and when to drink this?
I would think that bone broth would be a perfect choice. Maybe with a small salad or something light.
It’s the best way.
What about electrolytes?
Great video! Thanks Dr Becky & Dr Keith, much appreciate all your information. 💕 I find reeding after doing a fast difficult, there is so much out there on this, what will work for me. I guess “trial & error”. 🙂
Can I move in with you guys and record your audio for you? You need a little help 😁
Sound is a constant battle for us. We have contacted an audio specialist to come help us out. We have already gone through hundreds of dollars (if not more) trying different mics, mixers, etc. It can be very frustrating.
I thought you lived in California not Pennsylvania?
As I look out the window at the snow coming down...California sounds pretty good right now. :)
I break my 72 hour fast with a king size Hershey bar, then I wait an hour and eat a big bowl of Rocky road ice cream.
Perfect
Keith has never done an extended fast, he did a bone broth diet... I demand he does a real fast without the bone broth so he can have the expertise to talk about fasting 😆😆😆. This reminds me of vegans who eat fish and claim to be vegans 🤣. I’m on day 5 of a 10 day fast and I already lost 9 pounds. Fasting is amazing and unbelievable, I never thought I could go for more than 3 hours without food but now I know it’s posible!
What did you consume ? I would like to fast I need to know what is acceptable on a keto fast . Thank you .
Water, black tea, black coffee.
Thank you so much . You guys are great sharing your experiences. Have learnt a lot from you beautiful couple.
It depends on your goals and the context of your fasting.
My goal weight is 115 but I'm stuck at 122 pounds.
What's the advantages of intermittent fasting vs. Keto? I'm confused which to do. Need to lose 15 lbs and be stronger
IF and keto are not mutually exclusive. IF only refers to extending your non-eating hours while condensing your eating window and can be done whether you're keto or not. Keto refers to getting your body into a state of nutritional ketosis where your insulin is kept low enough to initiate ketone production.
I haven’t seen anyone talk about enemas during fasting???
You certainly won't see us talking about them. :)
@@2FitDocs lol!
You shouldn't need an enema during a fast.
It’s extremely sad to hear medical personnel being squeamish about a simple medical procedure.
Why would anyone do a 10-day fast? Sounds like torture! I could never do it.
They should delete this BS video
