Writer, Director and Composer.
An unmatched triple threat genius.
John Carpenter is indeed a talented person. We all know he’s a great director who manage to do a variety of genres, but it is pretty understated that he can produce some of the most immersive soundscores in his films.
Really appreciate this video for covering this aspect of one of the best filmmakers of all time.
The fog for me is just enchanting. I almost say the same things about it that this video to anybody that asks me about my favourite music.
Great video and homage to Carpenter's work!!! The Academy really needs to pay proper tribute to this man before he's just another three seconds on that Oscar's "guess who died last year" montage. Thanx!!!
This is incredibly well researched and educative, keep up the good work my man!
Thank you! Really appreciate it.
To me music is as important to a film as the characters, story, acting, atmosphere, sets, special effects and everything else. The right music can make you feel a certain way during a scene and adds emotion to scenes that wouldn't have it with no music.
Definitely. Also the lack of music can have its own intensity, No Country for Old Men is a great example there's no music throughout the entire movie, aside from a bare handful of subtle moments with very minimal deep tones of sound.
The guy is a genius pure and simple.
Like his direction brilliance his scores are severely underrated as well. I genuinely feel his brilliance like most will happen after he passes and it sickens me no talent Hacks like Michael Bay got hundreds of millions thru films compared to men of real talent and real vision. Thanks Matt for the showcase of his work.
Matt, you have quickly become my favorite channel and content-maker. Thank you for your efforts and gifts.
Shit I'm gonna go listen to some synth wave now
Very well written and narrated nice job.
Chariots of pumpkins sets the tone for Season of the Witch perfectly!
Stepping up your game Mr Draper. I like it. Game on. xx
Thanks, Wen!
Oh wow... he did most of it with a keyboard...
This has definitely pushed me to listen to more of his music, especially the more recent polished music
Great video my man! Well done
Great stuff mate
I really want to watch more films by Carpenter, and this video just make me want to track down all of these films (the good ones anyway). John is an extremely talented man, and deserves more praise for his work.
This was an excellent video Matt, You are getting better and better. If possible, could you do a video on the music of Carter Burwell? I love his music, especially the soundtrack for In Bruges (if you haven't watched it, I highly recommend that you do. It is brilliant.)
Thank you! I suggest watching anything made from Assault on Precinct 13 through They Live, those are all gold. I do like Carter Burwell's music and I think "In Bruges" is great! I don't have any thoughts on a video about them at the moment, but I'll have to check them out again and see if that leads to a video. Thanks for the suggestion!
One of my favourite Carter Burwell scores is the Psycho III one.
Great great great !
genial¡ thank you for the ..Sir J Carpenter¡ lux ¡
Back at it again with the gems, I see you matty👀
It's always appreciated!
Here's hoping you find more veiwers/subs soon. Your video essays are top notch, my dude!
Thank you! Having people like you enjoy my videos is just as good as getting lots of subscribers.
Interesting dive into the history of Carpenter's music. There were some tidbits from his early days I didn't know about so it was nice to learn about them. You also covered his musical evolution through the years pretty well regarding the short time of less than 14 minutes. You know what? I'll gladly sub to your channel to see what's coming later ☺️
Did I just hear "... even the dreadful Escape from L.A." !??! That is an insult. All of his films are unique. All of his films bear soul and message and are a sheer delight to watch over and over again. None exceptions! And Escape from L.A. is even more reflecting our brutal world than New York does!
John Carpenter is synthwave 😎
Interesting
Gunship - Tech noir sent me over...
Carpenter composed the 2018 Halloween's soundtrack with his son Cody and his godson Daniel Davies as well.
The theme song for In the Mouth of Madness was originally going to be Enter Sandman by Metallica but...they wanted too much money for it. SO he wrote and played his own version of heavieness
