      So much praise on here about this AWESOME musician , yet , while in San Antonio to vist my brother Art , we were music bar hopping . At one bar ,don't recall the name ,we walked in and there was Steve Jordan ! He only had a drmmer and a bass player , who was filling in the bajo sexto part also , on his bass! But the bar was empty except for a couple of guys drinking . It was my brother ,his wife ,our sister an me. Steve and his guys sounded great as usual and we had the floor to ourselves. But it was heartbreaking . To see this monster of an artist being ignored like this in a town like San Antonio.

      Hay muchos acordeonistas buenos, Ramon Ayala se hizo famoso por crear tanta melodia y arreglo pero a mi gusto Juan Villarreal, Esteban Jordan, Paulino Bernal, David Lee Garza son mucho mejores, y por supuesto Steve creo un estilo, es uno de mis mas grandes idolos el mejor acordeón Tejano sin quitarle el lugar a Paulino Bernal

      Definitivamente no se puede comparar con Ramón Ayala...Esteban Jordan es otra cosa y su música estaba mucho muy avanzada para su época aún si hoy viviera, todavia su musica estaría muy avanzada, y para lo que el toca se tiene que estudiar mucho.

    • @marcoantoniobernalcarrizal9049
      @marcoantoniobernalcarrizal9049 7 лет назад +1

      Jaime Zamarripa Para mi sobrepasó las barreras que muchas veces lo norteño y lo tejano se ponen así mismas, si bien ambas implementan muchos ritmos que son representativos en ambas escuelas siendo la polka la más aplicada en lo tejano, Steve creo una fusión muy particular a mi ver porque en su música llegó a identificar sonidos relacionados al jazz fussion e incluso ritmos afroanrillanos. No cabe duda que los 70's fue la mejor época musicalmente en todos los géneros y más con músicos talentosos como Steve...

    Can anybody tell if two lives, professional story lines of Esteban Jordan and Flaco Jimenez was somehow crossed each other, why Flaco is more popular, why people say no one liked Esteban , for what, what is the story of this two musicians do you know?

    • @Skeeter66
      @Skeeter66 2 года назад +5

      I've thought about this for years, and I came up with a a few reasons during this time. Flaco plays VERY simple, even by Conjunto/Tejano standards. Simple music is easier to digest and more relatable, as such it has a broader appeal. Versus El Parche playing very complex arrangements and often blending in different swings/grooves. Funk, jazz, "chicano music" as he put it, whatever else like phase shifters, echoplex, etc. I think that's a hard sell for Tejanos, because culturally speaking, Tejanos are conservative with their ways, and Steve always complained that "gente" (Tejanos) doesn't like any change. When your "home crowd" isn't supporting you like other people, then that kinda reinforces that idea he had. I remember I told myself I had to go see him at Salute Bar in San Antonio since he's getting old and he may not have longer. I remember walking there, opening the door, and being in disbelief that I was hearing jazz on accordion. Point is, at Salute, where he had a residency, there was about 3 or 4 people there to see him. After that show I saw, he died a few months later.
      Flaco also "crossed over" and starting doing covers of very popular English (white American) songs, as such it broadened his fan base and appeal by being more relatable. Tejanos also listened to the same songs too, so that was relatable even even for them too. I'm sure another thing that didn't help Steve was that he was very tight with his image/intellectual property. He didn't like/didn't allow people to record him, take pictures of him, or get his autograph! I remember him saying that he didn't allow/do those things because he thought everyone was trying to screw him over. How I took it, is he didn't want to get exploited over his intellectual property, whatever that might be. I don't know how he would be in today's world with Facebook Lives, smart phones, Instagram, etc. I remember there being a sign at Salute that cameras weren't allowed. You're kinda alienating people, especially people who like what you do, when you don't do stuff like that.

    • @rbeygarcia
      @rbeygarcia 10 лет назад +3

      Exactly. A loop machine. You see the bassist go over and trip it on, the accordionist plays 36 -or thereabouts- bars until the machine has recorded it and spits it back out in sync. He can then step away and the machine continues playing those 36 bars from memory. At the end, yes he's playing on top of his own playing. Nowadays that can just be recorded beforehand. But now it's mainly used for vocals (can you say Beyonce?)
