[4K HD] Britain's Worst Street? Virtual walk London Streatham.

- Today, we walk along Streatham High Road, voted as "The Britain's Worst Street" in BBC's 2002 poll. Streatham, located in Lambeth borough, South London had won this title for its "run-down shop-fronts, a junction which defies belief, broken lighting and cramped pavements." Over the years however, millions of pounds have been invested which we will have a glimpse of today. What do you guys think, does it still deserve the title or not?
I live there. To be honest, I think Britain's Worst Street is a bit of an insult, and it's made a pretty decent effort to improve.
Born and lived in Streatham til 1984. It might have a few sad looking shop fronts, but what you need to do is "look up"..... the architecture is lovely.
I grew up in Brixton from 1943-1969, when I got married and moved away because of my job. I worked at the Regal/ABC cinema from 1963 - 1967 as a projectionist and attended Saturday Morning minors there when I was little. I have fond memories of Streatham High Street, walking its length on many occasion from the age of 10 until I left the area in 69. Brixton and Streatham will always be home to me, even though I don't recognise any of the shops along there anymore, and a whole new generation of people populate the streets now. Thanks for the walk.
That cinema was and always will be my favourite

Do British people live in brixton and streatham?
Thank you for sharing ❤️
@@slayedclaw317 What kind of dumb question is that?
@@slayedclaw317😂
I've been living in Streatham hill since 2016. This is the exact area were I do all my activities.betwen Streatham and Streatham hill Station.gym. grocery supermarket. Cafe shops. pharmacy.banks .GP ,buses and trains , .and nursery /school everything I need is around in a few minutes walk .I Love Streatham hill!!!!! It's a safe area of London and clean .
My hood. Longest High Street in all of Europe. Streatham Hill Station end is more up and coming and better in my eyes. It's great though, all of it. A little disappointing empty shops or shutters in places but there some great places and has everything. Marks and Spencer, JD sport, EE, Theatre, pubs (Rebel Inn is great), Aldi, Lidl, great food (Vietfusion, Turkish, KFC, Mexican, Chinese, Indian). What's not to like? Architecture is great too, as another commentor on here says - "look up".
Streatham is a very good shopping area. Many of the best food shops can be found on the high street, with restaurants and places to buy drinks and take a break from shopping. It is quite clean and a busy area.
I think even in 2042 people will be referring to the one time in Streatham's history it was called the worst high street. I roll my eyes when people refer to this event 20 years ago as they don't realise it's changed so much since then
I lived there in 2003. Lots of memories came back watching your video! Please keep them coming xx
A street where Audrey Hepburn, Laurel & Hardy, The Rolling Stones and Charlie Chaplin once performed in one of the oldest night clubs in the country. It's a shame a lot of it's history is now gone.
There are definitely worse places- try living in s*** hole town with nothing to do. Streatham has improved a lot in the last 10 years.
It’s alright..l I mean if you wanna see 1 of the most run down high streets in south London. Go Thornton Heath. 😂
Facts
Thornton heath has gotten a lot worse over the years, I remember when I was a toddler and it wasn't that bad
@@MapleMTPT2
Why is it bad
@@slayedclaw317 it didnt use to be
@@slayedclaw317 its just a little dirty
Hmmm...this video was taken 3 years ago. U need to have a new video of streatham. Pls this is not the worst area to live. I live here fr the past 18 years! 3 years in croydon. Trust me streatham is way way better. I walk at 3:30am wth my friends to eat kebab. We come home safe. I just love streatham and my wonderful neighbours
This is where I grew up in the 1960s and 70s.
I haven’t lived there since the early 1980s....but it still remains ‘Home’ to me.
Sad it’s gone so bad ....☹️
It's not that bad
Its weird watching a vid of the area that i go through almost everyday

Same!
I love it.
I don't understand why you call it like that
I lived there in the late 60 s i love st reatham how dare you say this ..
Definitely not the worst street, no where even close. But If ur gonna walk through that road u should start at the beginning, Croydon. There u will the UKs worst street
It’s not the worst but not very nice at all
@@barryo3654
Why not nice
I was born in South East London in 1978 I moved out of London in 2000
I'm glad I did
Its not that bad tbh, lived there all my life
Memories of Streatham, great time I've had on that road all the way from 2005 to 2012. My Relatives are still there though lol 😎
Just by your name I can tell whereabouts in Streatham you lived
@@KingpinTBMok then we’re
@@One_direction-28 They have Somali in their name, isn't it obvious?
@@KingpinTBM I know but you said I can tell whereabouts in Streatham you live
Lived here for about 2 years. Ain't too bad.
A very old town with lots of history but it's a dull and dingy hell hole now. Worst traffic imaginable
It doesn't have Pratt's, Woolies, Tandy, the ABC cinema, the same amount of banks and post offices as it used to, (it doesn't have a McD's anymore either), but...it's still a decent high street.
Did British people move away
@@slayedclaw317 no, they haven't moved away.
You notice the change straight away crossing the old station approch rd then the missing public toilets.them the mound that made up streatham green.the little kiosk in the wall next to the tomb stone shop on the top of gleneldon.no police st.only missing one pub,the bedford.which had a toy shop near it.could not compete with pratts toy section with the table top of stuff you could play with. The veg cafe on shrubbery rd next to the tiny jewlers opp cop shop got to be 45 yrs
@@brucejack606 yes, I remember the kiosk. I couldn't remember the name of the toy shop that was on the parade, but can remember the name of the one on Norbury High Street, Pram Toys. Do you remember 'International', the supermarket that was on the corner of Stanthorpe road?
I remember international, born in 1970 ,did you do the inflaterbles in streatham pool on sats at 2
How fortunately mistaken.

¡Que tengas un buen fin de semana!
