His home city is actually Ilsan, but Ilsan is very close to Seoul, so he did spend time there as well. He considers Seoul his second hometown. He did finish growing up in Seoul after signing with Big Hit at age 15.
The background singer is John Eun, one of RMs best friends, a producer at Big Hit and the guitarist for their touring band, Ghost Band for years. He also has his own solo music you can check out, which is very chill vibes. In fact, all the performers here are longtime friends of BTS and also from Ghost Band.z
BTS did Tiny Desk as a group during the pandemic in 2020.
RM loves modern and abstract art. He also loves classical styles of art from both the East and the West and traditional historic Korean art. Korean historic and abstract modern are probably his favorites, judging by the art he has all over his house. His house is full of art. He is a big supporter of the arts and a collector. He has been called one of the most influential art collectors and patrons in S Korea.
About the cover art for Indigo:
RM’s album was created over the course of three years, and he pulled from the emotional turmoil he experienced through the COVID-19 pandemic. The result is the person he came to be. From the album teaser promo:
"Record of RM : Indigo. From the colors of nature, human, etc. Documentation of my youth in the moment of independent phase. Sun-bleached record faded like old jeans. The last archive of my twenties."
Indigo's minimalistic cover shows RM sitting in a brightly lit room that contains only a stool with a pile of his jeans on it and a painting hanging on the wall. The jeans were pairs he had actually worn, in various hues of blue, set on top of a wooden stool he actually uses. Since the album serves as "the last archive of his 20s" the jeans can be interpreted as a representation of him through the years. Above the stool is a painting by the late South Korean artist Yun Hyong Keun who has been an inspiration for RM, an art enthusiast. So much so that he named the tracklist Blues after the painting and named a track after the artist. RM explained that he chose the painting because it was the last artwork to be released before the artist found his signature style. He finds beauty in this art that is just on the cusp of unfolding or becoming the true voice of the artist. Indigo is an attempt by RM to discover his own true voice as an artist. His cover art was named to some lists of most beautiful album covers for its artistry and deep meaning.
Rm is also an avid reader and loves literature, philosophy and poetry, as well as nature. He loves sea creatures so much that he won't eat seafood. He has four little bonsai trees as pets that he named and talks to and loves on. He did have a dog, but his dog passed last year. He loves to go riding his bicycle everywhere (he has a song called Bicycle actually) and loves going for long rambles in nature. ARMY calls bike riding or going for nature walks "Namjooning." He likes to use nature themes in his lyrics too.
Erykah Badu is the Queen of Neo-Soul. Yun is definitely a Neo-Soul track.
I love love love RM's music and his ability to pick collaborators who mesh so perfectly with him but it's just the icing on the cake to listen to him talk about his work. That man's mind is just something else. He created a video called 'Indigo Magazine Film' where he, the artists he collabed with, and the producers on some of the songs speak about creating the Indigo album in the order of how the songs appear on the album. It's probably one of my fave videos from BTS. It was just amazing to hear about the backstories of what inspired him to write some songs, his perspectives, what other artists felt about working with him, some fun behind the scenes tidbits, etc. It was all so well done and deep yet fun yet emotional at some points.
By the way, Docskim (the guy on the keyboards) is the producer behind Wildflower. Such an amazing piece of work he put together. His story he shared about working on it stood out the most to me.

RM actually just turned 29yrs on SEP 12th, for a number of years Korean age's were different from the rest of the world where as when a Korean person is born they a considered to be 1yr old because they class the time in the womb as being alive, and they don't actually go by their birthdays they are a year older on the 1st JAN every year, so they are sometimes classed as a yr or 2 yrs older than they actually are, I know this is confusing so please google it to understand it better. But as of JUNE/JULY this year the Korean goverment has changed the aging to be just like the rest of the world to stop all the confusion.
