  • A North Texas officer has been placed under arrest after bringing a cell phone into an inmate's cell, according to the Collin County Sheriff's Office.
On Monday, Oct. 10, 2022, a detention officer discovered a cell phone and charger in an inmate’s cell in the Collin County jail. Detention Officer Tyler Moody, an employee since October 2019, confessed to sheriff’s investigators that he brought the contraband into the jail and provided it to the inmate.
The sheriff's office released a video of Collin County Sheriff Jim Skinner firing Moody. Initially, Skinner asked Moody if he was offering his resignation. Then, he clarified that wouldn't be necessary.
"Let me just make it easy," Skinner said. "You're fired. You're no longer an employee here."

Hardly, sheriffs are the elected rulers of their own fiefdoms and I’m certain that this video is just campaign material that this guy got distributed for free.
Where do you think all the contraband in jails comes from? Who do you think brings in the drugs that are so valuable to prisoners? It’s the guards. This poor guy just found himself on the outside of the clique and this was his punishment.

Cellphones are not permitted to be brought into a federal prison facility; however, I have heard from a relative who is currently serving time that it does happen on occasion that the COs will bring one in. They just don't get caught by their superiors doing it most of the time.

So let me educate you further. Contraband in prisons includes alcohol, communication devices, drugs, drug paraphernalia, tattoo equipment, weapons and other items. Items that are prohibited may include everyday and seemingly innocent items that while not illegal, may be used inappropriately by prisoners. A prisoner shouldn’t have access to a cell to carry on business, nefarious or otherwise, on the outside of prison.
