Love how she was right to the point !! Had all of her ingredients ready none of that extra talking and prolonging the recipe !!! I can get into watching her make more recipes!! I wish others would do the same it's really not professional when some ppl come on and they be doing all sort of things instead of cooking and showing the audiences how to prepare a recipe, Thank you so much looking forward to seeing more of your recipes, also that chess pie looked really good!!! Great job!!!
You have a beautiful granddaughter--how wonderful that she's baking with you! I love the story of this pie. Supposedly in 19th century Alabama, a freed slave made pies and sold them to her neighbors. When nuts were hard to come by, she made this sugar pie with the ingredients she had on hand. When asked what kind it was, the woman said "Oh, it's jes' pie" which came to be Chess Pie.
This is a classic, and one of my favorites. The ingredients are always on hand, it stirs up in one bowl with no mixer needed (if you melt the butter), and it always comes out perfect. A real crowd pleaser!
Ms. Brenda, THANK YOU SOOOOO MUCH for this recipe. I'm 67 and first had butter chess pie in elementary school. Sometimes for lunch I would buy 2 slices of chess pie and call it lunch. I recently moved from Dallas, Texas to Oregon. They still have some cafeterias in Dallas (Furr's & Luby's) where they serve this pie. Oregon doesn't know what cafeterias are. I will be trying this recipe even though I am diabetic. As your granddaughter was trying the pie, I said to myself - That should be me!
@@CartersEat Just make a small one for yourself. You could probably slice it up and freeze them. Then just take out what you want a piece, I'm sure you can make something else for your husband.
I tried a bunch of other chess pie recipe’s.. and I must say I made this one and it is my favorite one of them all. It’s the right texture. Right sweetness color everything is spot on. Thank u so much. I appreciate you for your kindness ❤️ I haven’t stopped making pies now. When I’m in a good mood I bake. Heck I bake when I’m not in a good mood. But it seems to calm me and gives me a sense of peace. I’m 33 years old. I didn’t get in the kitchen much growing up . That I can remember. I have taught myself so much I can cook and bake. Practice definitely makes perfect . God bless you
A CHESS PIE IS THE BEST THING EVER!!!! This is making my mouth water, to think that corn meal & vinegar can make this slice of heaven is amazing. WONDERFUL video. Thank you
I cooked this pie last night. It was delicious. I used lemon juice instead of vinegar. I also mistakenly used self rising flour. My neighbor said it tasted like sweet potatoe pie. Thanks. Have a blessed day. 😍
I lived in Alabama, North Carolina, Virginia, and visited most of the rest and I've never heard of this. Found it by a video about presidents food preferences. I am SO trying this! Thanks for making the video!!!;
I made the chess pie for Thanksgiving and it was declared the best chess pie ever! I used your recipe because it looked like such a beautiful pie and firmed up so well! I’ll be using more of your recipes. Five stars!
Hi Ms. Brenda!! My best friend is from Indiana and her mother lives in Kentucky. I tried chess pie for the first time when I went to visit her mom in May. I was scrolling for recipes on Google but I looked on RUclips and I watched your video and I'm making it today. You have such a beautiful spirit and thank you for the recipe instructions. God Bless you and your family 🙏🏾
I LOVE THIS VIDEO MS. BRENDA, AND I WILL GIVE IT A TRY. THE PIE LOOKS DELICIOUS AND SIMPLE TO MAKE. THANK YOU AND KEEP SHOWING US YOUR WONDERFUL RECIPES.
Literally my very 1st time making a chess pie this morning and used this recipe. It is AMAZING! It was a wonderful feeling to know I made it and it was loved by all. Thank you for the step by step and straight to the point recipe. I will continue to use it! ❤
Thank you for sharing this recipe with us. I have had this pie once before when I visited with family and it was delicious. Now I have the recipe I greatly appreciate you. Cant wait to make it
I love making chess pies. I don't use lemon juice because in Texas that would be considered a lemon chess pie, so I use the white distilled vinegar instead. This pie looks really good.
Ms Brenda...Thank God for you. This pie looks delicious, and your beautiful granddaughter did an amazing job.Looks like she’s following in your footsteps.❤️
I was watching a movie on Tubi, and in this movie one of the character's made a chess pie. It looked delicious in the movie. And it look's delicious on your chanel as well. Sound's like a great desert to have with your Sunday dinner.
I tried this pie and Wow my clients and me say thank you, I stay in the South for 37ys and never heard of this pie out of curiosity I made it. 😋 yummies
I've made Chess pie from the age of 12 until now at 69 and they've never disappointed. Think I'll be making one today. So glad I saw this and Goo bless you Ms. Brenda!!!
Miss Brenda Dee, my parents were from Nashville, Tennessee and both baked Chess Pies. I've been looking for a recipe that included Yellow Cornmeal, and White Vinegar. If I remember correctly, they used 12 eggs, however from the video the texture of the pie looks authentic and 12 or 4 eggs, the taste is bomb. I can remember them in the kitchen talking about the secret to this pie is the cornmeal. Thank Miss Brenda Dee.
You are so welcome. I love chess pies. They reminds me of a buttermilk pie. Thanks for your love and support. God’s Blessings to you and your family 🙏🏽❤️❤️❤️
I don't understand what you mean by 12 or 4 eggs. I do know you wouldn't use 12 eggs in one pie. Can you explain what you meant by that? And btw I've lived in Nashville my entire life. I've always used vinegar instead of lemon juice because I like the taste of the pie better than the pies I've eaten where lemon juice was used. I've never heard of using yellow cornmeal instead of plain but I think now I'll try it.
I love chess pie, I really want to try this recipe! I've only eaten it once, when my history teacher brought some in for my class as a treat, and it was amazing.
I just made my 1st chess pie EVER in my life! It turned out good...but cooked it a little longer. At least didnt burn it. I put lemon too. Ur granddaughter is beautiful & her family. Can tell ur teaching her how to cook early...good for both of u. Hey, Ms Brenda it turned out fine. Little on sweet side but fine. Thank u for ur recipe.
You are welcome Ms Joyce. You can always cut down on the sugar next time. My granddaughter loves to cook. Yes we must take time out to teach them. I’m so happy she enjoys it. Thanks for your love and support. God’s Blessings to you and your family ❤️🤗😘🥰
I'm so astonished! Cornmeal is about the last thing I'd have imagined as an ingredient! I always thought chess pie was a variation of cheesecake. Well now I know better! And it looks so easy, I'm excited to try it myself!
candypoo1100 Awww Thank You!!..Ms Candypoo. My family loved this pie. I’m definitely making these for the holidays. I know your Granny can make these delicious pies. Wish I could taste one of hers. Thanks for all your love and support. God’s Blessings to you and your family 🧡🍁🧡🍁🧡
Ms. Dee: I followed your chess pie recipe to the detail! I had on hand a traditional pie, not deep dish. It came out perfect, just like yours! It was so good, my mother and I enjoyed it very much. I am use to making and eating chess pie many different styles and textures! I don’t know where you got this recipe, but it’s a keeper! Thank you very much for demonstrating, and thank your granddaughter for making it look so good, prompting me to move up off the sofa, in the dead of night, and bake! God bless you both! 😀❤️❤️🙏🏾
Awww You are welcome Ms Patrice. I’m so glad you enjoyed it. Sending you a Big Hug 🤗 Thanks for your love and support. God’s Blessings to you and your family 🙏🏽❤️❤️❤️
