I was traumatized the first time I killed that lady hostage in the jungle stage. That was a long jump for an 9 year old boy to go from jumping on turtles to shooting civilians by accident. I noticed this is the version where you DON'T get to select your missions or fight that officer in the jungle with the hostage.
I'm not going mad then, it doesn't appear in the MAME version I have! I do remember the officer at the end of the jungle level who was the reason at one regular holiday arcade I went to I rarely got past level 2 (and a similar bad guy with hostage more sensibly saved until the end of the game being why I never finished Opt Thunderbolt!)
No home console can replicate the arcade experience, playing on the real cabinet is the most fun you can pump out of a military hostage rescuing mission. It's addicting and it will eat up your quarters, like Cabal, a similar game to Operation Wolf.
Growing up in the 80s, these graphics were considered cutting edge! It would be on par with the PS5 and Xbox Series X. I spent all 20 dollars of my birthday money playing it and it was well worth it!

that is true. The uzi did have force feedback. and while it is fun to play it on MAME, it honestly doesn't feel right without holding the Uzi. I always loved this game. You're in Vietnam, fighting an army comprised at least in part of clones of Fidel Castro, to save POWs, Short Round, a Swedish bikini model, a mamasan, and an overworked pair of nurses, while pigs and chickens run around crapping bullets everywhere. If there's a more original concept for a game out there, I've yet to find it.
I first played this game at a local rollerskating rink many years ago. Sadly they’re closed now, but I used to love playing this game whenever I had the chance.
Taito should’ve made the Operation Wolf coin-operated arcade game with a choice of difficulty easy = more ammunition, medium = moderate amount of ammunition, hard = less ammunition
here it is, the exact arcade game that got me into gaming back in the 80's. i later got this on C64, and i was disappointed it wasn't the same as the arcade.
I can't believe this franchise is getting a reboot! I'm excited! Edit: It was the worth the wait, even if it’s currently still in VR. Just hope the non-VR version comes soon! Double Edit: The non-VR version is out now. And it looks good!
In Vietnam, they had what was called R&R and believe it or not, there were bikini girls. If you ever get a chance to watch the Vietnam documentary on Netflix, it will talk about it.

You couldn’t on the NES either.
Perhaps this is set to easy dipswitch settings. I have zero chance of beating the 2nd stage on default settings.
I always loved the mentality of civies in these kinds of games. "THERE SLOTS OF GUN FIRE GOING ON,IM GOING TO RUN INTO THE FIRE FIGHT"
No home console can replicate the arcade experience, playing on the real cabinet is the most fun you can pump out of a military hostage rescuing mission. It's addicting and it will eat up your quarters, like Cabal, a similar game to Operation Wolf.
Girl in a bikini and heels just running through the jungle. Totally normal.
Anime aside,
Japan has a thing for
those kinds of babes IRL.
I use to play this in the arcades when I was a kid. The gun was awesome. It had such a good feel and weight to it.
Growing up in the 80s, these graphics were considered cutting edge! It would be on par with the PS5 and Xbox Series X. I spent all 20 dollars of my birthday money playing it and it was well worth it!
Well, this comment certainly aged well.
World of Longplays to answer your question. "I'm curious what was going on in that play, because all decent score entries and all scores in YT videos are around 400K" You can check the INP playback of the 6,211,200 points at Twin Galaxies. My new score is 16,316,700 at the hardest settings and lowest clip magazine being four. My sixteen million points got the attention of a UK Magazine called Retro Gamer Magazine issue: 67 that wanted to know how i pulled it off, i explain it in great detail. Sadly over the years, many people think i cheated...My focus now on this game will be to beat the physical arcade machine at Funspot to prove worthy of World Champion status. In all fairness, the current world champion of this game is to the person that has did it on the real hardware at TG.
So, the enemy soldiers are defending the village from you?
Thats a really good point... I'd never though about it like that.... you are the bad guy! :)
Yeah, lol, I couldn't help but notice all the innocents fleeing in terror and gunned down, lol.
Cuba isn't it???
No, 0:36 you're rescuing hostages from that village.
No, they took over the village by force. You're liberating the villagers from them.
The first gun game in arcade I every saw or played.I remember the line up waiting for this game only.
I love how you have blatant disregard for the Geneva convention.
+David Davenport Black ops, maybe?
Loves how he risks his life to save hostages, but ends up being a hostage because they don't want to replenish his ammo supply.
Thanks, U.S.A, you're so dependable.
No crosshair???
that is true. The uzi did have force feedback. and while it is fun to play it on MAME, it honestly doesn't feel right without holding the Uzi. What i usually do though to make it almost feel like the arcade game is that i use the mouse with one hand and hold an unloaded Uzi airsoft gun with the other hand and follow the cursors movements with it.
Yeah blue and red together would cause seizure. Thanks james.
That’s exactly what happened with that banned episode of Pokémon, “Electric Soldier Porygon”
I dont have epilepsy but this made my head hurt. AVGN saved lots of people a headhache
LOL - great description - and the gun grip vibrated when you fired your bullets.
Maybe Central/South America!
I first played this game at a local rollerskating rink many years ago. Sadly they’re closed now, but I used to love playing this game whenever I had the chance.
damage warning sound used to legit scare me as a kid?
Cole it’s great. I used something similar to create tension in a game I helped with.
Can I play operation wolf without light phaser only with the control pad ?
16:59 That would never happen to John Rambo.
Taito should’ve made the Operation Wolf coin-operated arcade game with a choice of difficulty
easy = more ammunition, medium = moderate amount of ammunition, hard = less ammunition
Masterpiece
here it is, the exact arcade game that got me into gaming back in the 80's.
i later got this on C64, and i was disappointed it wasn't the same as the arcade.
AVGN wasnt kidding. This game constant flickering and light flashing can causing seizures
I would play this game in a grocery store! Man this brings back memories!
Let off some steam, Bennett.
Wait the 2nd jungle level should have a boss right?
3:05 you devil!!!!!! :O
Could of been strapped to explode he couldn't take the chance on that one
I can't believe this franchise is getting a reboot! I'm excited!
Edit: It was the worth the wait, even if it’s currently still in VR. Just hope the non-VR version comes soon!
Double Edit: The non-VR version is out now. And it looks good!
Is this Chuck Norris playing this game? Geez.
This soldier uses a KaBar knife , thats a nice detail.
here from AVGN
I remember playing this game as a kid and you can see where you have to shoot pretty accurate since you can run out of ammo.
AVGN was right, I had at least 37 seizures watching this.
Lol, 98.5% of the views are from AVGN.
The other vids on this channel average about 5k views each. This one is at 336k!!!
I'm here for AVGN.
This machine was really common during it’s time. I remember seeing it all the time but didn’t play it that often.
Seizures promoted by AVGN!
A wonderful ride. Lots of memories.

What are bikini girls doing in the war zone?!
In Vietnam, they had what was called R&R and believe it or not, there were bikini girls. If you ever get a chance to watch the Vietnam documentary on Netflix, it will talk about it.
Jimmy Lim Kids too?.
+Invidente7 В зоне боевых действий самый лучший загар!
It was the 80s, man.
This game is now on the Arcade Memories Vol. 2 SD card for Taito’s Egret II Mini! It is compatible with Dempa’s USB Cyber Stick controller (XE1AJ-USB).
I was 10 in 1987and the Red Rooster around the corner from my house had it....I spent all summer in there!!!
Ground Round Baltimore 87
My father's bar he worked at in around the same time as you lol give me a hand full of quarters and 8 hours later I was still standing there on the bench firing away fun times as a kid best game
I remember playing this on the NES!
Good times. Thanks for sharing.
Me too
As phony as Arnold is in Commando😂😂😂😂😂😂
I used to think this game was based on that movie
@@Hillthugsta It was definitely influenced by it, the attract screen on Operational Wolf is a very close copy of the scene where Arnie gears up before the assault on Arius' base. Commando 1985, Op Wolf 1987
best part when you got the Gatling machine gun!
Better than the Nintendo version. =3
Excellent gameplay :) the Cabinet of this game it was something unheard
This game inspired me to join the military!
***** so you gotta win
+Rob Finlay are you still in the military?
Still have the NES version. Was one of my favorite games when I was 10 years old. I don't know why they changed the word hostages to prisoners on that version.
Had to see the flashing for myself.
My eye genuinely started tearing up at that bright light. Wtf.
I think Eino has something against women in bikinis.
All the times I played this game, I never ever noticed the enemies counters
