I had to dig into my Jiujitsu footage archive for this one. This was actually filmed back in 2022 about 1 month after I was promoted to blue belt.
I had a walkover win in the first match and was super lucky to go straight to the semi-finals with plenty of gas in the tank. As it was the first comp of the year, particularly coming off of a big Christmas break where I didn't get to train much, my cardio base was pretty bad.
The biggest mistakes I made were definitely not having a clear gameplan on the feet, rushing positions, putting my opponent in a dangerous position in the way I attacked from turtle (not good!), and keeping my elbow really open to allowing for my opponent to attack the Kimura.
All-in-all it's fun to look back and dissect my early blue belt matches as it highlights to me just how much progress I've made in the last 12 months.
I plan on competing much more next year throughout 2023 and hopefully, I can wrangle up someone to film for me!

Thank you for fighting the good fight and spreading the word about the dangers of yanking people straight back from turtle! I see it in the gym a lot and warn people know that we're gonna have a bad knee injury one of these days. Some are receptive, some aren't.
Sick af good commentary
dude thank you so much!
Yeah, I'm surprised that I let all this footage sit in my archive for a year 🤦🏽♂
Both pulling guard at the same time. Was waiting for the quack noise 😂
Bahahaha missed the opportunity 🤣
I love all the work that has gone into this humble brag about you beating a guy who won nationals 👀
Seriously though good stuff, keep the content coming!
Hahaha not my intention but yeah got to be careful about that 😂😂😂
I was stuck in this "side guard" (3:10) a few hours ago. Thanks, now I know what to do lol
Man it’s funny how important the basics are in bjj like keeping elbows tight etc one little slip up on the basics seems like that’s where you get caught. I’m a four stripe white belt and I’m just realizing now how pathetic my bjj actually is. Im now catching myself during rolls in these “why the F did I do that” moments very often. Or looking back at matches in tournaments and being like WHY DID I DO THAT YOU IDIOT 😂😂
Bjj is the most humble sport ever made
niceeeee man
got some skills in the gi! nice bow and arrow
Thanks bro! It funny looking back on this because of how long ago it was
What weight class? Just curious. Good video. Good commentary. What Alliance do you train at?
Weight class was -88kg the alliance was Rose Bay Sydney at the time but the gym has rebranded to Vantage Jiujitsu
I did that dangerous back take pull 3 times in a row as a white belt and my competitors mom yelled at me after the match for it 😞 never again lol
Man easy mistake to make tbh
How do you edit those overlay to focus on elbow and stuff??
I use masks and opacity key frames in premiere pro
You sound like a Runescape RUclipsr
I used to play WoW 🤷♂️😅
