Very nice video, and it included many talented musicians. Personally, I would have put more male vocals in, especially for the chorus, to add more resonance and really play into the "sea shanty" vibe.
@@Xxxarsenallondonderbyxyxa wrong. Aniah was the best singer and actually put feeling and effort into it. Lizzy just phoned her performance in and had no feeling to it.
1:27 Yup, that's the key structure of shanties, actually! They were ultimately work music to co-ordinate stuff like heaving and hauling, so you had one dude (the 'shantyman') doing the verses and setting the beat, and everyone else would join in in the chorus. That way, you could all push or pull in tune with the music, making the work much easier. Often you'll see a specific format called 'call and response', where the shantyman sings a line, and the crew responds. Santiana or Bully in the Alley are great examples of shanties with call-and-response formats.
Yes! I noticed that on Santiana, and I could totally picture someone singing it and I come in with the "Awwaaaaayyyy SANTIANAAAA" I'd probably scare the life out of them but it'd be a jolly lot of fun 😂

Dude, I really loved Orchestra as how everyone plays every detail of the song ... and to be honest? i really can't believe that an entire orchestra piece without a director is possible....
10:49 You should close your eyes while listening from this point on to really capture how great this sounds without being distracted by the visuals. By detaching yourself from the faces of the people presented and by using your imagination with closed eyes, you might possibly visualize a crew on deck of a sailor's ship, singing this Sea Shanty while heading out about at sea whaling and catching fish. Or singing of their success at a Seaport Tavern drinking Rum, gambling with coins, arm wrestling, and sailors hollering at the maidens.
Fantastic! Bravo! All stellar performers, even the Pirate Dude at the end...playing the Violin. The additional creativity of each of them was special. And finally, the Violinist with the Eye Patch is totally gorgeous...and give you that "come hither look." Wow!
I think I'm one of the only people wo haven't actually heard of the song until I watched this video. I listened to the song after watching this, and I can confirm this sounds infinite times better than the original
Hi I have been playing my violin for about 3 years now, I am only 10 but I am pretty good for my age. I wish you could teach me, you are an amazing player and love what you do!
I can't believe this showed up on my RUclips randomly today... I am so glad I watched this. One of my most favorite folk songs I used to sing as a kid, and I just watched this... it weird that I shed a tear because I loved it so much? Mr. Rob Landes, I am now a subscriber. WOW! Encore!! Encore!! I have to watch more of your videos, and hopefully see if you created a video with all the famous RUclips musicians making a song together. Maybe a makeshift orchestra together as well? I don't think I've seen any famous Music RUclipsr do this on their channel before.
This was way worth the money! Damn! XD I love the Wellerman Sea Shanty. It is part of my Childhood. One of my Grand-Uncles (mother's side) lives on the Coast of Wales. He knows a lot of Sea Shanties. When one of my friends send me the original TikTok, I recognized the song instantly, because my Grand-uncle taught us this song during one of our Vacation Trips to England in the Summer of 1997. We were out fishing on his lil' boat and played pirates, so he taught us the Wellerman. Damn, it has been so long :,3
Awesome version of this song. The instrumental section was over the top good. I am a little bias being a French horn player, but that horn was really good. The solo at the end was a nice touch to finish it off. The bass singer sounded great, and the soprano was fine too. My biggest problem was that the two meh singers made up some of the main part. It made that opening really kind of awkward. Other than that, it was beautiful.
At the moment I'm still on the part, where all the instruments are playing individually and I am getting SO EXCITED, LIKE YEAH IT'S GONNA BE GREAT, HU! 🌬️⛵
Same here. I think kudos to him for putting this together but the end result sounded bad. I don’t know why people are praising it. I’m wondering if they’ve heard it before the good versions? Because really this was out of time and the vocalists were bad and that first chick’s horrible auto tune was just weird. The vocalists need to get in the bin.
They were not really in sync. I think some of them were sped up and other slowed down in parts to get them to almost align but still not quite successful. That's why you do this all in the same room or have a director holding the tempo.
I'm in no way professional- But I do have some uh- p r o b l e m s- with the choir parts- (Because that's what I can give opinions on First, the voices are in no way actually blended, their vowels aren't the same and it sounds overall somewhat unpleasant to my ears. The one with the projector screen background was probably the best of all the voices, but even she could have used taller, fuller vowels if you're going for the 'choir' feel. The vowels are really what's getting me. I was in middle school choir (I'd be in highschool choir now but a core class takes that slot) and my amazing teacher drilled tall vowels in our minds to make us sound more mature. Sure the voices are pretty nice on their own, but together it sounds like one of the JW Pepper preview tracks before you purchase a score. All in all, if you want a 'choir', go for people that can collaborate with each other to match their vowels, so the piece is more complete. Otherwise, great job!
