See our successful summit of Longs Peak (as well as Meeker) via "The Loft Route" in this video! I try to add in route details and show you the correct line as well (it was my 2nd time up Longs Peak summit via The Loft Route...so I know it pretty well now!): ruclips.net/video/4DCSMit-a4Y/видео.html

The only way to fail is to not come home. Good call, and props for putting it on youtube, there should be more of that.

Great video! Why? Because you didn't succeed. You chose safety over glory and shared a great lesson for people who want to get out into the mountains. Know your limits and always be prepared to turn back if the conditions the mountain is giving you change or become too sketchy. It can still be fun even if you don't reach your goal. Thanks for sharing Sage!

I know where you turned around and that was a very good decision. I climbed to the top of the Notch around Labor Day in 2004, the summit of Longs was closed to pull a body off. It had snowed a little up top the day before. We didn't have micro spikes either. However it was fine heading up and the snow and ice had mostly melted. The problem was coming back down. The sun had moved and that whole area was in the shade. The section you turned around at was now completely iced over. It was one of the most scariest things I've done. If you noticed it slopes down to a pretty good sized cliff. We scooted along on our butts and there were enough rocks sticking out to put our feet on but the slightest mistake would send you over the edge with that ice.

The sun was hazy exactly like that all the way over here in philadelphia on wednesday. Absolutely insane the sheer volume of smoke the wildfires cause. Awesome video thank you Sage

WRT to ice axes, you may want to look at the Camp USA "Corsa". It's a certified, lightweight axe more suitable for occasional traction rather than the "full size" axes that REI stocks.

The ramps are tricky on a dry day. Too bad though, everything after the saddle probably would have been fine. I saw it last weekend from St. Vrain, looked dry (although the down climb next to the palisades is in the shade so who knows). Good call in any case, there's always next time!

I remember hiking to Chasm Lake years ago. This video brought back the memories of being on top of the 14'ers so long ago. My goal for 2021 is to climb several of them including Long's Peak. Great decision on your part and great video, thanks!

Phenomenal video Sage. Not sure I'll ever try the Loft route, KeyHole route in the snow without traction (July 4th, 2019) was more adventure than I needed. Always better to hike another day.

This is the problem with the trail running style of mountaineering. The cost of traveling light and fast is not have all the gear you may need (crampons, ice axe, etc). I carry a huge pack up these mountains not because I expect to use everything, but to maximize my chance for summiting. Just wanted to share my thoughts on this. Obviously, really good job on what you did accomplish, and you made the right call.

I’ve been up in RNMP since last Thursday. Epic place. Plan on doing Chasm Lake on Saturday (will leave Loft to the pros...) - timely video. I was on my way up Twin Sisters Peaks opposite when you were up Longs. 🤙🏼 Been surprised by how few trail runners I’ve physically come across - none so far bar me!
    Great vid as always!

@Vo2maxProductions Hi Sage, protected your identity today - was up Chasm Lake and a friendly hiker who saw me run Hallet Peak yesterday too asked if I was that guy that runs up all those 14ers on YT. “No that’s Sage Canaday, a legend and on a whole different level!” I replied. 😂
Chasm Lake was indeed epic - what a beauty of a spot!

haha reminds me of trying to camp at the highest camping point in WA and could not get up over the Lip without risking...possible death and Mountain did win but I kept my life....I will be back....maybe another chance for...either. Safety First yup boss!

The other way to look at it is mini-crampons would have let you climb higher into potentially worse terrain to a harder point to downclimb from. But that 'unknown' is climbing.
