- Cruz was raised in Puerto Rico. His parents were heavily involved in witchcraft and spiritualism, and as such, Nicky was the victim of repeated physical abuse and rejection at their hands. In an attempt to escape his violent upbringing, Nicky fled to New York City in the mid 50s where he soon got caught up in the gang violence that was sweeping the city. Fearless and seemingly immune to physical pain, Cruz rose through the ranks of the notorious Mau Mau gang in Fort Greene, Brooklyn to become their War Lord.
Cruz’ life was a downward spiral of violence and dysfunction. A court-ordered psychiatrist told the court and Nicky that he was “doomed...finished...on a one-way trip to jail, the electric chair and hell.” Then one day a skinny preacher - David Wilkerson - came to the war-torn streets of Brooklyn delivering a message to Nicky - “Jesus loves you, Nicky.” Cruz threatened to kill the preacher, but several weeks later at a rally at the St. Nicholas Arena in NYC - Cruz surrendered his life to God and exchanged his weapons for a Bible.
He has an incredible story to tell and this is a night not to be missed.

Because of Nicky and his gang, my family had to leave Brooklyn. University scholarships, promising careers, all left behind. He & his M M were terrifying. Now I understand. My family still became academically successful, but I cried for two years because I missed Brooklyn so much. I appreciate his testimony because… God saved him and others.
My mom would always talked about Nicky Cruz when me and my family gathered/sit together. And we actually did not took her seriously and not that really into it, sometimes, me and my siblings will even tease her like, now it's time for mom to talk about Nicky Cruz again...
And here I am today, listening and watching this. It breaks me into tears here alone in my room. God loves us even in our darkest moments. God loves sinners and he will always welcome us with his open arms no matter how sins we are. The real unconditional love! Thankyou Jesus!

One of the most powerful testimonies of all time. When my sisters and I met him in SanBernardino my sisters started crying the anointing of God was so strong on him. It’s amazing to see his full testimony at the Return 2020 on RUclips. Praise God . This was and still the most powerful testimony, today when ever I feel bad or ended up in jail I always remembered nicky how GOD changes his life, man i keep falling, but always prayed for my wrong doing, I really hope that one day I will walk with our lord JESUS, all I know is that JESUS kept me alive all these years 🙏 but all my wrong doing there's always conviction not in court or law it's me and the lord, I had a pretty rough childhood, when I was 16 years old I live on the streets I've incounter alote of crazy violent stuff, but by the grace of GOD I'm still here thank nicky most of all thank you lord for sparing my life because of the movie I saw run baby run,
His story is so glorious. The Cross and the Switchblade is one of my favorite books. His story touches my soul every time I hear it. My mother and father lived in NY when Nicky’s story was unfolding. My mother was pregnant with me when Nicky got saved. My father is also Puertorican. So, his story is very special to me. God had His hand on Nicky from the beginning. I love when Pastor David told Nicky “Jesus loves you” and Nicky with such enormous hatred (due to fear and his hardness of heart) threatened to cut him to pieces. . And Pastor David said, “If you cut me up, Every piece will cry out “Jesus loves you”. God got Nicky in that instance. He was a gonner LOL from that moment. You can’t kill love! AMEN
My next favorite event was when Pastor Dave gave the gang members, one of which was Nicky, the job of collecting the offering.

Now 3 yrs later in 2021, this came across my YT feed! ❤️❤️❤️ somewhere I have one of the original “Run, Baby, Run” publications written in the early 1970s which I have read more than once! this story never ceases to amaze me and I just love love love his story. And so recently I was looking into his story again here on RUclips.
So Today, Wednesday, September 29, 2021, I will get these (3) books I ordered from Amazon,
“Run, Baby, Run”, “The Devil Has No Mother: Why He's Worse Than You Think- But God is Greater” and “One Holy Fire: Let the Spirit Ignite Your Soul”…… each written by Nicky Cruz. I have never read the last two. I know they will be powerful and inspiring.
But …….Nicky sure does not look 80 yrs old!!!

I Read his book "Run Baby Run" when I was 14 ,I hadn't even heard of Nicky ,the book was one of the best i ever read, i couldn't put it down. I have such respect for Nicky ,he was very violent but was saved by Jesus. God Bless you Nicky Cruz
I too read Nicky's story in Run Baby Run at about 14. No one could be more opposite Nicky than I was. I was brought up in a fine Christian home where the Bible and prayer were a regular part of my life. I was born again when I was 5. BUT years later I knew that my Christian walk would never make it...never hold up... in my world of 1960's teenage temptation. Just like Nicky and just as badly as Nicky I needed a REAL POWER that could make me someone that I wanted to be but could never be on my own. Reading Run Baby reassured me that the POWER that transformed Nicky was available to sustain me although our circumstances were different. THAT POWER is what life is all about.
I visited colorado Springs in 1993 AND CALLED to nick Cruz Ministries..
For me surprise he was right in MARACAZINHO GYNASIUM (in my country - BRAZIL)...

This is a marvelous personal story that led to the conversion of Nicky Cruz. I read the book written by David Wilkerson when I was first saved and recall saying to myself that I wanted to be used like that, to have such boldness as he. My heart has always leaned more toward the ministry of reconciliation than teaching or other offices, and the Lord has used me to lead others to Him.
I wish this particular service had been given, not in a church assembly, but outdoors, where the unsaved could hear it, but this is the way so much of today's evangelism is taking place, within the confines of a church, unlike the courageous approach David Wilkerson was so willing to take, to the point of not worrying about his own death. Street preaching is much needed today. We can't hide in buildings any longer, We must get outside, to walk the streets, to approach strangers, to be bold enough to proclaim the Good News to anyone.

Got saved because a Baptist Church girl gave away a copy of his book, Run Baby Run in advance of him visiting in Fort Lauderdale. I was 16. Met him at the church outreach 1972, i couldnt stop crying.
Amazing book! Was the first one i read by nicky cruz aswell. I loved it so much i read the second book (Devil On The Run) in one night. The 3rd book (Soul Obession) i came across that book many years later. I really wanna get the other book he wrote called Holy Fire. Nicky Cruz and David Wilkerson have done so much for God, they are two of my biggest inspirations, along with Oral Roberts and Prophet Deckard.

Behind every idol is a demon.We can become used to using words of the culture and lose the meaning words like blessed, children not kids, knock on wood etc. I hear some say God has a dream for you. Proplem, God doesn't dream and saying He does brings God down into human acts.

I read about Nicky Cruz when I was 14 in England. I never knew anything about gangs and America. Fast forward 40 years later I am walking with Jesus and lived in the US for 7 years. I was too young to understand the movie but I remember it touched my heart and ivalways remembered the movie. Years later I saw it on video and the Holy Spirit brought it back to my attenuation. The first time i am watching something from Nicky Cruz, because John Ramirez spoke about him, that he is special, and he really is. I couldn´t stop crying,laughing and then praying and worshiping God.I grew up similar with my Dad who was a badly alcoholik and very physical abusive. And it is really like he said, when you are young and you face that kind of things, you tell yourself and confess that you show no love and there is no love because you never felt it. I bought dozens of David Wilkerson's book about Nicky Cruz and how he came to the Lord. This was the Jesus movement 1970's Jesus changes lives by His incredible love.
That is the same way I came to Christ when I was a teen...my church had a Easter play where Jesus was crucified and I started crying and crying when I was at the altar giving my life to Christ

The service was powerful. We in the western world really don't know how to worship God like the Chinese people. It is too bad that just a few people were in engaged in real worship. What thoes people nearly need is a holy ghost revival and it could have happened right there while NICKY was preaching and in the worship. We have it so good in Canada and the States. It makes me sad to see the solemn faces of the people on this video.

Read the Cross and the switchblade and followed that with 12 Angels From Hell, best 2 books I have ever read. I read those in 1967. The day before I got married, my now husband and I were privliged to see and hear David Wilkerson. He spoke on daughters hating their mothers. I had reason to hate mine. I was able to forgive her that day. I will always be thankful that we went to hear him. May he rest in peace.

Dear Brother Cruz, I was very young when I read the book The Cross and The Switchblade and it was very powerful. I watched the movie twice it also was very powerful and anointed. I was blessed to work beside you praying for others in the play run baby run seeing somebody lies turned around so many people healed I thank God for the privilege of working beside you and you came back again in Milwaukee for the street minister and we went out and we talked to everyone in the streets gang members I remember everything that you said and how many witches were delivered what a awesome moment that was here when you spoke of AIDS before AIDS was even popular before it even came out to be what it was you told us that will know someone there was a man who came to our church pastor Andre's Church on the ver forget it because he could barely walk he was limping all the way there the next day he was running and jumping and skipping I'm so glad he decided to give his life to Jesus salvation is all I want for everyone who will listen to me

Run baby run was the first book I ever read I could read untill I was 18 God must have put his hand on my mind to help me. I was gang banging for years after I read the book but his story was the first thing I ever heard that made me think twice about my own ways
God touched your Heart through that book. Keep going with that, there are no coincidences and you are here for a reason. Only Love matters, and only God brings True Love. Pray for God to speak to you more, open the bible randomly....to any spot, read whatever you land on, then go in your closet and ask God to speak to you.
