They are Canadian and in my opinion that has alot to do with it. Alot of folks aren't in The Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame. Olivia Newton-John is one of them. Also they didn't put alot of R & B Acts like The Whispers, Boyz To Men, The Stylistics amongst others. Also The Guess Who were the first Canadian Group to do American Bandstand. In Canada their songs are in daily rotation. It was sampled by A Rap Artist, and it was even used in a Eyeglass Commercial.

Late sixties early seventies “these guys” had so many hits. Burton’s vocals always stand out but as you mention great instrumentation here as well. This recording has elements make it stand out and sound different from others at the time. And many of their songs are like that. Had their greatest hits on eight track in early seventies and wore that tape out.

The funny thing is....the song was written when Cummings and Bachman were just 21 and 23. Bachman had just gotten married and Cummings was still living at home. Neither of them had experienced any kind of breakup. Bachman wrote the lyrics, and Cummings laughingly said "I fixed them". The original lyrics by Bachman were "These Arms".

The Guess Who was one example of an American, "white R&B" band (often referred to as blue eyed soul).
The creation of music today has changed for the worst! And bands like this are practically non existent!
But as Miles Davis once said, "... that's what records are for" --- (to capture what was, but is now no more)!
    Nice reaction! ✌️😎

A GREAT GROUP! They had amazing songs and an amazing singer. When they broke up, Randy Bachman (who co-wrote or wrote most of the songs) left to form Bachman Turner Overdrive and had hits with them as well. Burton Cummings went solo and had a great first album. They reformed and had been doing gigs until Randy passed away. Talented people.
