    My 57 Zafira had no horn/random radio volume issue. All I did was, disconnect negative battery terminal, push airbag out (didnt disconnect) and the small wires were all squashed. I carefully pushed them all to the sides whilst pushing the airbag back in. Reconnected battery...horn works every time and radio controls now work!! Really simple. The wires were squashed beneath the airbag...that's all.

      Having a car in UK seems expensive.
      The whole repair in my shitland would cost as much as just a diagnostic check for you mate. But i would be concerned about the fact they can steal the airbag while repairing the car.

  • @yukayuyu3844

    Thanks for the detailed tutorial, fixed my left stalk not turning on high beams. Moved the moving plastic part with contacts on the bottom of the PCB back into place and now it works perfectly fine, also scrubbed the through-hole pins so hopefully the horn thing doesn't manifest itself anytime soon.
    Airbag was indeed a pain in the back, for anyone struggling I would recommend pushing the screwdriver in at different angles (towards the center of the steering wheel) and pulling on the airbag until you feel it letting go a bit, then you know you can push as hard as possible to release it. The little while codewheel was difficult to remove as well but using a tiny flathead screwdriver works great for separating the brass pin from the case.

    Excellent guide.
    The clip 'fix' vauxhall fit FOC basically is a 10min job. The steering wheel need not be removed nor the airbag. The clip compressees the 2 piece steering control unit to allow the rusty / problem electrical contacts to better contact. Gets the car through the warranty period before it fails again.
    The contacts on my car were indeed oxidised. White film on aluminium. Other contacts are copper. Why vx used Al here?
    Cleaning didn't work for me but made the steering controls work again on left side only
    Methinks a new CIM needed or something else wrong. Already checked horn and earth.
    What is clear is that vxhall dealers have not bothered entering steering control box where code wheel is etc.
    Thumbs up for this video

    Hi! So i've followed this guide and got success results! I had problems with the horn and left radio controls module so i followed this guide to open the CIM module. I applied a special product for cleaning and lubricating electrical contacts (don't use WD40..), didn't have to scrape, just cleaned ALL contact points. I also did an additional thing: I soldered the board external connectors (There are three of them). The connectors are not soldered to make the outer plastic box separate from the CIM board, and they are fixed to the PCB using special "legged" pins with no solder that might loose it's effectiveness over time. All works fine now! Thanks again insaneinvader!

  • @rodgermogg897
    @rodgermogg897 5 лет назад +1

    Worked perfectly, thank you! I didn't have the problem with the lights/volume switch, just that the horn stopped working. Fuses were okay and I had already replaced the wiring loom under the airbag. Also, no power was reaching horn, so concluded it had to be the cim. Fairly straightforward to do but had a little trouble re-attaching the black ring thing that sits under the centre of the cim casing. Took me forever to re-align it properly so that it would sit in place correctly, prior to putting the three attachment screws back in. Took a bit of working out but got there eventually. Bit like a jigsaw puzzle!
    My indicators were also starting to play up, not always catching on the first/second time. This is another known fault I believe with Astras. Not only annoying but can be dangerous. This was an easy fix by cleaning the contacts while the cim was in two pieces. Indicators now working perfectly.
    I am slightly puzzled that my cim did not have a small white code wheel fitted. However, everything seems okay without it!

    INDICATOR CANCELLATION ISSUE UPDATE: The black disc 4:36 will not spin indefinitely. You get about four or five turns (each with its own potential re-centre point). If you put the steering wheel back on and it's not in the correct re-centre point, the auto indicator cancellation may not work. To fix this, whilst the wheels are straight, I had to count all the turns in the black disc, and align the re-centre on the turn in the middle rotation. I hope this helps.

    Car fixed. Horn works and all steering controls.
    After cleaning contacts the horn and RHS steering controls still did not work.
    A forum post suggested unscrewing the buttons on stwering wheel for volume etc. As the RHS was still inoperative I tackled this.
    You need
    T20 to unscrew bolt from behind steering wheel.
    Thin flat screwdriver or wiggle / pull audio control out steering wheel. I had a garage already replace these a few yrs ago with new. I replaced new with old one after tugging cables. Plugged in old one.
    Result - horn works all time with lights on / off and with dash rheostat bright/ dim. RHS audio controls work flawlessly along with LHS.
    Battery drain of 150mA has gone. I checked this 10min before and left for 40mins - no change.
    After effecting this repair the voltage stays at .080A for 2mins then drops to 0.00A
    Maybe connector earthing/grounding to negative? Tiny wires looked in good nick.
    Worth a try.
    Saved £££
    £115 OBD DIAGNOSIS
    £600 CIM
    £60 to reprogramme new CIM

    Hi all. I dont have issues with the horn while any light are on etc but seems that when I full lock the steering left it fails. I can most of the time get it working again by full locking to the right. My MOT is due in 3 weeks so need to fix it asap. Is this still a CIM issue or is it a wiring loom issue? Thanks

    When it comes to the airbag part. Is there any danger or the airbag deploying when removing it in this way?
    I'd rather not have an airbag /screwdriver combo in close proximity

    Hello guys, I wanted to ask you a question, for a few days the instrument panel of my car has not turned on. The lights stay on, the light switch does not respond and the fog lights do not go either, the radio light is also off. Otherwise the car starts well, the radio works, also the horn and everything else ... What could it be? Thanks.

    So technically i dont need to remove the big codewheel either just to clean the connectors for the faulty horn right? Since they are exposed as soon as you take off the cover?

    In my Zafira 08 horn failed just recently. Thing is that turning lights on or off doesnt influence horn, it seems that it starts and stops working just randomly (For example on auto lamp - do not work, on off - do not work, on lamps on - work). Contact local dealers, they told me that issue with the horn under recall was fixed in my car back in 2011. Im wondering to di this fix, but i do not know is worth the trouble and will it help?

    Widzę film konkret, można spokojnie rozbierać. U mnie też występuje problem z klaksonem (astra h z 2008), zaczęło się niedawno i teraz niestety coraz częściej sygnału nie ma.Nie występuje tu zależność włączonych lub wyłączonych świateł. Od początku natomiast tj. od kupna przeze mnie tego samochodu, nie działa regulacja oświetlenia zegarów. Raz udało mi się "pobawić" a następnym razem nie działało.
    Wg informacji dla serwisów opla, samochód podlegał akcji serwisowej ale nie wiem czy ją odwiedził. Właśnie przymierzam się do sprawdzenia czy jest spinka na CIM, poźniej trzeba będzie rozważyć ewentualny demontaż modułu. Pozdrawiam.

    witam, jaki cel mają "zabiegi" ukazane między 6:40 - 7:15 ? nie można jak na filmie z ruclips.net/video/MMKqq8tVtQQ/видео.html ?? czy to rozwiązanie działa również na zbyt szybko wyłączający się jeden kierunkowskaz i rzadko występujące odpalanie samochodu za drugim razem?

    • @InsaneInvader
      @InsaneInvader  5 лет назад

      Jeśli chodzi o oznaczenie położenia kółek przed ich demontażem, to jest to potrzebne, gdyż umieszczenie ich w innej pozycji spowoduje niedziałanie modułu lub uniemożliwi jego poprawne złożenie. Jeśli chodzi o ściąganie białego kółka to jest to zupełnie zbędne tak jak to zaznaczyłem w filmie. W przytoczonym konkurencyjnym filmie zastosowano rozwiązanie, które również proponuję w 8:19, i które wg mnie będzie lepsze niż czyszczenie styków. Niestety nie wiem na jakiego innego rodzaju awarie usuwa ta metoda naprawy.

    Hi all, I have same problem with horn, and have followed this tutorial at the end, but problem was not on connectors described in this tutorial. Actually it is in connector where air bag is, @3,17 , copper one circle shape on the left. Just freeze the video at 3.18 min, and you will see it. After scratched it with screw, my horn worked emediatly, no matter if lights are on or off.

    Hello,
    I have the same problem with the horn like you, I followed your steps watching the video and now horn works well. But after that light for ESP is always on. Do you know what the problem is?

    • @InsaneInvader
      @InsaneInvader  8 лет назад +1

      Hi,
      I believe that ESP uses data collected from steering wheel angle sensor so you may need to dissasemble CIM and check whether you have assembled everything correctly. Pay special attention to the positioning marks 4:16 and 4:28. Examine the internals of the CIM, especially the sensor consisting of metal disc with holes and read head equipped with infrared diodes looking at the holes in the mentioned metal disc. Check if codewheel (metal disc) is placed in the exact same place as it was before disassembling. I think it is possible to rotate the thing 4:37 several times (a way more than 360deg) so maybe at the assembling time you rotated it e.g. in wrong direction. In summary just make sure everything was put in the exact same place and position as it was before disassembly. Nothing more comes to my mind... Please leave feedback if you find the solution!

    • @onejay09
      @onejay09 8 лет назад

      agreed, your esp is on because the steering angle sensor is off by more than 15 degrees, which means you put it back together out of alignment, the gold disc is tied in with the steering angle, and tells the esp the angle of the steering, so the car knows if its out of control, this also happens when the wheel alignment is out.

    I dont have a problem with my horn but my signal lever keeps cutting out on its own, and I replaced the turn signal lever twice with the switch built it. Could this be the problem or just something like a flasher relay?
