Working on another review of a Firefly thinline acoustic… the demo also tuned into a full song… not sure if the full song will make it into the review video or not… anyhoo… thanks for watching and the kind comment.
I really like your close up camera work, showing the details of this guitar and the guitar itself looks good. Did you use Dunlop 65 fingerboard conditioner on the fretboard? I also liked the digtal measurements tool you used to show the fret height and width. What is make/model of that tool? I too am a Songwriter at heart and I like your incorporated original song to demo the guitar. You could have ended it at the close of your original and I would have been sold! I liked you camera editing on your original song as well and the song speaks for itself! I also sub'd
Cool guitar and real nice tune and delivery. Had me riffin' on the "Let's talk a little more" in my head after it was over. Fergimme, but I think it might be a cooler title too. Real fine work. Kudos to ya!
Wonderful review and I really like your song! Great home studio too! Very impressive video, I liked the 3 screen vocals and great harmonies! Can’t wait to try the Firefly acoustics 😀👍
Thanks George!! Check out the remix of the tune here: ruclips.net/video/gJppfyvCdOA/видео.html I added some instrumentation and did an overall remix. Thanks again!
Great review and excellent song Keith. The tuners on my on my DA02-SI were a little loose but I was able to tighten them up and they seem fine now. I did a string change and adjusted the truss rod like you. I still need to lower the saddle also. But I agree this is a totally playable guitar.
Thanks Keith. I just got one with the Fishman pickup/preamp and I agree about the action being a little high. Jimmy Stewart also mentioned this and wondered if there were some spacers under the bridge..apparently not and I too will be taking it down a bit today. Pickup sounds really good, I used an AC Driver DI, and new strings helped immensely. The battery door feels a little weak/may pop open unexpectedly but that's a Fishman thing and why they invented gaffers tape. Truss rod nut was loose but I have found this to be the case on several new guitars recently. Not a big deal. Quality overall of this instrument is top notch! I was also very impressed with the rosewood. I expected it to be dyed but when I oiled the neck it clearly was not. I will be looking for more Fireflys for sure! Waiting for the Resonator and SG style to return.
Enjoyed the song and review. I have a dreadnought Yamaha and bought the FF cutaway acoustic just before you came out with this vlog. You are absolutely right on about the tuning keys. Those have got to go. I also prefer a lower action so will follow your lead on that. What grit size of sandpaper did you use? Also, I consider myself more of a songwriter than a technically proficient musician. And whenever I get “into the flow” time stands still until it all comes out. It’s very satisfying when it comes together. Keep up the good work.
Hi Keith, I think the Firefly acoustic is great too! And I got their resonator to go with it.also great. I lowered the action and also had a high fret.on the dreadnought, the thirteenth. The fishman sounds very good through a preamp. I use the AC Driver. My one pick is with Fishman. The battery holder should be on top not the bottom where the chintzy plastic cover can fall off during a gig. A little duct tape will work but what were they thinking? I would also recommend you check out the Xaviere acoustics. Same deal, lots of guitar for the money!
I have the same guitar. The construction is good. The radius on the fret board is extremely flat almost like a classical guitar. And the neck is a very chunky D shape. I sanded the back of my neck and now it is more to my liking. Also, I upgraded to Wilkenson tuners. I added a bone nut and saddle. I am currently using 12 gauge strings. I like the tone and am pretty happy especially considering I only paid about $220 for a pretty nice guitar. I think Firefly did a great job especially considering that they generally make electric guitars. All though a lot of those electrics are hollow body electrics which I have never tried. Good review. And beautiful song.
Thanks! I did an updated version of the tune with some additional instrumentation and a new mix. You can see that here: ruclips.net/video/gJppfyvCdOA/видео.html Thanks again!
Yes… among many many things. It funny I’ve heard different folks bring up so many different influences that they hear. And the answer is yes to all of them. I am a collection of the sum of my parts. Thanks for the kind words!
Great song and performance. The guitar sounds excellent and looks awesome and well constructed. I would replace the tuners. Thanks for sharing your experience and talent.
You are inspirational and amazing! I was gifted the DA01 without the pickup. I need to have it set up professionally and have a pick up installed. I agree for the $ its a very good guitar!
I very much enjoyed your video and particularly your song. Very well performed and sung. BTW, is that a Neal Morse autograph on your bass? I have a couple myself. Keep up the great work!
Great song! I was surprised at the plugged-in sound. It sounded fuller than a lot of plugged-in acoustics. I don't play (yet) and would consider a Firefly acoustic to learn on.
Nice tune mate, u have me sold on this. But do they make auditorium instead of a dread aught acoustic electric. Even though I could use a solid banjo buster dreadnaught. I like to be able to hit those lower notes comfortably.
After this first batch they haven’t had any acoustics. It been a few months. So I’d keep an eye on the web site. Not sure when or even if they will have them again.
"Made Up Their Minds"'s lyrics brought me to thinking of some songs by Al Stewart (known for "Year of the Cat", but his material is so much deeper than YotC).
Hi Keith. Would you give me a brand recommendation for up grading the tuners? I have this guitar and am enjoying it but would like to up grade the tuners.
@@TheTapeFarm your videos for both of them were very impressive, but I really liked the sound of the thinline on your recordings. Do you still play either one of them on a regular basis? Thanks!!

@@TheTapeFarm I ordered a thinline based on your video and several others. They've only got 4 left in stock which will probably be gone tomorrow. Thanks for the info.
I got one, and wasn't all that impressed. Both my old Yamaha FG-730 and Washburn D10 delux are in a whole nother league above the Firefly and have similar specs. Both are discontinued and admittedly would cost more than the Firefly if they were still in production, plus they have aged from being played. But I had higher hopes for the Firefly. It just sounds ok. Can't really say about the plugged in sound as I don't have an acoustic amp. I use D'Addario Phosphor Bronze light strings on everything.
I get that. It’s good… not amazing. It’s well worth its asking price for sure. I turned mine into a Nashville Tuned/High Strung. It worked out great for that.
Thanks. Soloing is my biggest blind spot as a musician. In fact it’s only this year that I’ve even attempted it after 43 years of playing. It takes me FOREVER to perform the melody I come up with in minutes in my head, but it’s a struggle worth having. Thanks again for the encouragement.
Every single budget guitar review I’ve seen they bitch about the tuners. I have four budget guitars. They stay in tune (my Squire Strat is 24 years old. Original tuners). I just don’t see what the problem is with them unless it’s snobs who think you’re less than cool if you don’t have locking Grover’s. You learn to live with them is what you do.
My late 80’s squire also has it’s original tuners. I would say half of the budget guitars I’ve have/reviewed have tuner issues. A lot of what some see as tuner issues is actually but issues. But times have changed in 24 years. And yes… there are some snobs out there. I try not to be one of them… but sometimes I just can’t help myself 😜
