Chanceux sommes nous d'avoir vu depuis 50ans une telle résurrection des instruments anciens , de leurs répertoires et de leurs si grds interprètes , sans oublier les luthiers et autres facteurs , les vinyles aux magnifiques pochettes et les cds si pratiques .
Ce splendide musicien, avec sa technique hors norme, rend hommage avec le luth au génie que fut Bach, comme d'autres le font avec un violon, un piano ou un clavecin. Ses contributions aux merveilles baroques sont encore plus belles quand les voix de Sabine Devieilhe ou de Léa Desandre se superposent à son instrument et font revivre une époque où l'art avait un sens

This was so beautiful... hearing some of my favorite of Bach's pieces on lute was so much more beautiful than I could have ever imagined. The interpretations were amazing!! And the technicality and concentration that Chaconne required!!! Excellent performance!!
I'm hitting like before I hear a note because I know M. Dunford will play beautifully. I love hearing Bach performed on lute (and harpsichord, shhhh! don't tell Thomas) and who better to perform it than M. Dunford. I'd give almost anything to be in the audience right in front of him not only to hear him play, but to watch him play. His fingers are like a spider's legs and spinnerets weaving a beautiful, perfect web. Lute, theorbo, archlute produce such deep, rich sounds. Delicious sounds! P.S. If you don't like Bach, especially the Lute and Cello Suites, well, you're just a knob! ;-)
Each instrument has its own sound and each instrument 'forces' (up to a point) the player to interpret the same piece of music in another way. But this magnificent performance is high above the 'limitation' of the instrument (I put the word "limitation" in brackets because I don't hear any limitations in any instrument - just uniqueness). It has the spirit of the musician. Bravissimo! Thanks for uploading.
Refreshing and interesting approach, to treat this material as true lute music, as opposed to disembodied counterpoint. Both approaches are valid and yield their own flavours, but one feels transported in time and atmosphere when listening to your performance.
I think the undiscovered music of j.s bach beyond any supervision, is in fact in search of every single player and listener and I think one of best of these discoverer was late gellen gould, that I am glad to hear this balance recital ...

Watching his right hand reminds me of how I play Travis style on my six string, except for the comparison that I sound like I am playing a two string cigar box compared to Mr. Dunford.Bravo sir!

And it is a beautiful fact that the one name derives from the other: "lute" derives from the Arabic "al-'oud", with the definite article "al" misinterpreted as part of the word itself -- compare parallels such as "alchemy", "alcohol", "algebra" etc.

I never realized how much better this instrument sounds than a guitar. The tone has a clarity more like a harp.
