The combined number of points and assists scored in January by Pascal Siakam and Fred VanVleet was the highest offensive stat total by a duo since Jordan and Pipin, the second highest in NBA history.
League has a massive injury problem it should be solving as a priority. Don't know what the solution is but the league needs to own this problem. Fewer games in a season, no back to backs? Nets big 3 played 16 games together over 2 half-seasons due to injuries smh
Playing less games dosen't solve the problem it hasn't been a issue any of these previous decades what's the issue now.Only thing I can think of is the pace is way faster so the strain on the body is happening sooner
That all star starter thing should be forgotten because no one remembers who were the starters 2 years ago, we just remember who made the team as a whole
The NBA definitely felt weird after the 2015-2016 season. Stats are inflated compared back in the early 2010s (maybe because of players shooting more 3s and more fast paced games i guess). Superstars like harden, westbrook, kyrie etc. changes teams every season what it felt like. Awards dont really make sense just like you said in the video, it felt like they change or at least consider other more factors in awarding players. Players miss a lot of games due to injury or any valid reasons and so on and so forth. After the likes of kobe, duncan and kg retired it definitely was an end of an era with this new type of culture and changes going on in the NBA. Personally ive kinda miss the old NBA but it is what it is you know. At the end of the day I still enjoy a good basketball game.
I’ve only been watching basketball for a few years so maybe this isn’t true but I feel like the awards and the mvp especially are more difficult to hand out simply because the talent across the league has grown and now it feels like half the teams have a qualifying superstar for such an award, at least under the right circumstances
that is a bit of recency bias, maybe not in your case because you became a watcher only years ago, but if you look the mvp races for 10-15 years ago, there is the same amount of high caliber superstars that could have won then compared to now. Its more of the definition of mvp has changed over the years, from who is the most important part of their team in all facets, to who has the best stats. I still believe that a decade ago, if the same situation happened where a player joins a team that was almost last in their conference and they turn into one of the best teams in the league and make the finals, that player would win mvp. But in 2020, Chris Paul was not even in the conversation for it.
But that's what we want the difference is how they choose the mvps. It used to be who had the greatest impact like d rose but now it's who can stat pad the greatest triple double
This has been the best season in years!! April can’t wait any longer!! I want to see these games now!! Forfeit these last games and let the best of 7 games begin!!
NBA doesn't stop for anyone's injury/shortcomings whether he's a star or role player. I guess that's why the NBA recently has been great because it will show teams who are willing to adapt to the situation they are in. It's unpredictability (is why I am enjoying this season)
Suns choked in the playoffs BUT the MVP is for the reg season so yeah, he was disrespected. What's worse is that Jimmy Butler for the Heat had the no.1 seed and wasn't even in the top ten in votes🤦🏿♂️ Edit: Jimmy went on to statistically be more dominant than even Giannis in the playoffs. There are levels to this disrespect.
The MVP race is like when you have the highest average in your school, but they chose someone else as the valedictorian. It's like saying-- "Your hard work is appreciated, but we like someone else."
Or like you're surrounded by the best tutors and teachers in the country vs some kid who was forced to get homeschooled and learn by himself and him being just as smart, which is seen as more impactful to the eyes of people with even the tiniest sense of nuance
Nah man, CP3 was in MVP conversations until he got hurt. That’s why Devin Booker ain’t getting all the buzz. You know, kinda like how when KD and Steph played together
It's a sign that the game is evolving and soon enough, Lebron and KD will be out of their prime. New kids will dominate the game and will become crazy good.
Basketball is a TEAM sport. KD and Bronnie might be the best, but their egos don't allow for any other good player on the team. It's Basketball, not Isoball.
I’ll tell you exactly why the MVP race feels different this year and why Book isn’t in the conversation, the toll of the short breaks between seasons these past few years has really shown itself this season. The suns are doing all of that in a conference where MANY max players have missed a significant amount of time like PG13, Kawhi, AD, Jamal Murray, MPJ, Dame, Zion, Klay, Draymond and that’s just the West. If you look at the difference between who’s at the top of the MVP voting and book, this year in particular it’s been more about who is having the biggest individual impact on their team as opposed to who’s the best player on the best team. Embiid has had to deal with the Ben Simmons drama and lead his team to success, Jokic is basically playing with the bench as his starters and the only reason they’re not a lottery team, Giannis and the Bucks got off to a rough start and he’s battled back to have them in contention, etc. It’s really that simple, the award this year more than any year is REALLY an individual award.
People will actually try to find a way to bash the suns, but when the warriors beat an injured clippers in the first round nobodies gonna be complaining 💀
its hard to know who is the absolute best player on the suns. it can be chris paul who came in and inspired the cullture or devin booker whose hardwork lifted the suns. its much like the 2014-15 atlanta hawks when they won 60 games. does that mean al horford should have won mvp? or jeff teague? i agree, it should go to the best player on the top 5 team of the league. narrative and numbers have ruled the race for far too long.
It's Easy, the difference in talent and performance is so Wide between the best player on the best team (Devin Booker) and the top 3 in the NBA, Jokic is having probably the best season of all-time,Embiid is scoring at Wilt Chamberlain rate, and Giannis is the DPOY and Shaq on the offensive end... You can't put anybody over them even he's the best player on a 82-0 team
Almost everyone outside of Phoenix expects this Suns team to get exposed during the playoffs, somehow. Wouldn't it be crazy if they just obliterated the league on the way to the championship, just like those 2000 Lakers?
Maga a rájátszás felesleges!!!! Nyugat és Kelet nyertesei mérkőzzenek meg egymással, és meg van a győztes!!!! A rájátszás a csókosok miatt van, hogy a középszer érvényesüljön. Így kell szarból várat építeni.
The MVP criteria has always been consistent and I'm sick of people acting like it isn't. The MVP of the league ever since the merger has always been given to the player with the best combination of win totals and amazing individual stats, the ONLY exception being Westbrook in 2017. If we wanted to stay consistent with that, then the MVP should either go to Embiid or Giannis since Jokic doesn't have the necessary win totals and D Book has good individual numbers but not eye popping ones. Comparing D Book's MVP case this season to Shaq in 2000 was really fucking dumb to do, because Shaq averaged 30-14-4 with 3 blocks on 57% shooting and was by a country mile seen as the best player in the league that year.
Jokic's the MVP in my eyes and it's not even close, so there should be another exception to the "criteria". He's the Nuggets whole offense and is doing things at his position we didn't know were even possible to achieve. Jokic is leading the league in total rebounds, defensive rebounds, PER, win shares, offensive win shares, win shares per 48, bpm, offensive/defensive bpm and vorp, and those are not misleading stats like guys with 9 ppg leading the offensive rating category, those are legit. And on top of that he's 2nd in fgs while being 12th in attemps, 2nd in defensive win shares, 2nd in rpg, has the same defensive rating as Embiid, and is like the "real" true shooting pct leader since all the guys above him doesn't even come close to attempt a 3pointer. The only things both Giannis and Embiid lead or come close to lead? Ppg and free throws, and you know what's funny? The Joker would lead the league in those categories too if he would get the calls he deserves, because he's technically averaging half the attempts of those 2 and you can't tell me with a straight face that he doesn't get fouled at least 85% as much. And who knows, maybe with more fta the Nuggets would have a couple of more wins and you wouldn't disqualify him for their seeding (;
I agree with you completely, with one caveat. The Nuggets have won three games less than the Sixers and Bucks. Are those three games really relevant enough to eliminate Jokic from MVP contention? The Nuggets are only this low in the standings because the western conference is, as most years, more competitive than the eastern conference. The eastern top seed Miami would be fourth in west.
I have to disagree with the Jokic part. If you're carrying your team as much as Jokic has been, You just have to be up there. In this case the exception you made for Westbrook is the same thing you should make for Jokic.
@@the_o_man It was two free rings with KD. The first one in 2016 was earned. Having said that, both of the KD rings are still more valuable than that goofy bubble ring from the Lakers.
Great video, Booker definitely needs to be considered IMO, It would make my year if he won, but sadly he wont. Even worse with the All Star Selecting, Booker not being a starter is just sad, Fan voting is horrible
I like book too but book dug his grave with a lot of NBA fans when he made the comment on Jordan saying I don't see why Jordan so great I don't ever remember Jordan scoring 70 in a game before but at the time he made the comment he had never won over 30 in a season he immediately turned off a lot of fans the grew up on basketball
I'm glad I'm not the only one who thought it was weird. Mainly for my Suns. We have the best record in the league and yet, no one is nominated for MVP.
@@xxjackirblackbloddxx7377 No Value? What Booker do you know? And also, I never said Just Booker. NOBODY is in the talk. I'm just saying the Suns are the best team in the league and someone on our team got us there
6:24 Shows: 7th placed Booker Says: He's not in contention You showed earlier Pistons/Spurs were team efforts... Before CP3, Booker was scoring 70 and losing Having watched ZERO games this season, list is fine.
The difference between Shaq and Book was that Shaq individually was the best or at least a top 2 player in the league, having a great record was the cherry on top. Dbook is nowhere near the top 10 let alone top 3. And the fact that CP3 is there and many people give him credit for the team success isn’t helping his case.
Exactly. Also, there is an argument for who really is the best player on that team, it's not unanimously booker. Just having that bit of debate takes away from a player being mvp.
The shot clock resets to 14 seconds instead of 24 so everybody’s points and rebounds numbers are inflated… this explains why there’s so many players scoring over 20 points this year .. so Kevin Durant and LeBron James number looks better than they really are… everybody’s been scoring a lot more points since 2018 and the shot clock change
Pls post this to the national papers and TV. Brilliant and we'll researched. Thanks for speaking up. Let's expose the corruption going on in the league
The reason why team standings don’t matter in MVP races is because of Steve Nash winning two MVPs. He ruined everything and in the end, those MVPs are the only thing Nash won.
@@honkedoffjohn that’s literally never been what MVP has been. MVP = most valuable player. A player can be better than another player and less valuable to their team. To figure out who the MVP is, a specific criteria was established decades ago that involves being a top seed. By the established criteria, Nash was a worthy winner. By the definition of the word, nash was MVP. It’s MVP. Not scoring leader.
@@ztlabraptor211 nah man Nash just had a better record. He was important to the Suns but if you took him out of the Suns that offense coulda still functioned, they still had Marion and Stoudemire. Nash was great but not MVP. Also Kobe scored 81 in a game that season.
@@honkedoffjohn a much better record, and was more impactful to that record based on virtually every impact stat. And with Marion and stoudamire but no nash they’d be maaaybe an 8 seed. That team played very little defence, their offence was where all of their success came from and their offence was due to nash. Marion and stoudamire were very reliant on nash creating for them and finding them for quality looks. They were still great in their own right but with them having to create all the time that offence gets significantly worse.
I also gotta disagree with the Steve Nash argument! Steve Nash deserved both his MVPs! The man took a losing club and made them championship contenders! Then followed it up but increasing his efficiency and numbers while Stoudemire was out most of the year and having one of the best records in the NBA! Sorry but he deserved those 2 MVPs he wasn't the best player in the league but he was absolutely the most valuable player to his team's success and since his team had the most success it stands to reason he was the MVP!
100% deserved both MVPs. People only mention that the Suns had the best record but don't talk about how they went from 29 before to 62 wins with Nash, next year Stoudemire only plays 3 games and the Suns still win 54 games.
@@drasconboy6349 Kobe had great numbers but his team was behind Steve Nash team in the standings and again Steve Nash was more efficient and missing Amari! As great as Kobe was Steve was in fact more valuable to his team! Kobe was the best player for sure but again Steve was MVP! People confuse the meaning of the 2!
@@LiveNLetRiv25 Nash was missing Amare but a team with Raja Bell, Shawn Marion and Boris Diaw is still 10x better than any team with Kwame Brown and Smush Parker in the starting lineup This is what I hate about MVPs, it punishes players with bad teams and it leaves players like Melo and KG with a less than stellar legacy
@@drasconboy6349 The players you named are known for defense! The cornestone of the Suns offense was the pick and roll with Amari. Kobe is the offense no matter who is on his team! Steve had a 50/40/90 season while averaging a double double and was at the top of a stacked western conference! Kobe was great Steve was more valuable to his team! And Again I remind you the Suns team without Steve Nash and with every player you just named and Amari had a losing record just 2 years earlier, Steve had them above 50! Your opinion on the players don't matter this is a fact! Again I believe Kobe was the best player in the league that doesn't make him MVP as great as he was Steve was more valuable to his team! That being said I wouldn't have been upset if Kobe won it, I just understand why he didn't! I personally thought Dirk should've won it that year!
I think that Shaq/DBook is a bad comparison. I think it would be better to compare him to a later Shaq or even to Steph in 2017-2018. Why? In 2000, Kobe was great, but he wasn’t looked at like an equal to Shaq until probably the year after. By that point, they were both so good they were splitting votes. Same with Steph and KD during the warriors years. Before that 49-point game, who was the Suns player that was being mentioned as an MVP candidate for the majority of the year: Chris Paul. Not Book. The problem is, it seems most people don’t know who’s the best player on that team. One day it could be CP’s team, and next day it can be Book’s. They’re in that “vote-split” situation. Now, if DBook played like 25-30 games without CP and had a good record, I think more people would notice the work he’s putting in.
I’d agree with everything except for the mvp discussion. Granted that possibly the last 20 years or whatever have been defined by the best player on the best team but I’ve always known the mvp to be the most valuable player in the league? Whether you’re on the worst team but putting up the best numbers league wide or the best team, mvps should be decided by the overall best player in the league not just the best team because ideally that best player on the best team would win fmvp.
I think it’s because the Suns don’t get a lot of publicity. In the beginning of the season I thought the Suns were just ass based off the fact i hadn’t seen a single video or article about them. You would think the Hornets are top 5 in the league based off how much we see about them but they’re probably not even going to make the playoffs.
@@devv197 I mean isn’t it true the suns probably wouldn’t have been there had ad not had glass bones. They beat them in game 3, and would’ve done it twice more. Nuggets maybe would’ve stopped them, but against the clippers they needed Kawhi and they would’ve won. Bucks got Kyrie out and harden playing injured and almost lost
Steve Nash clearly was the right MVP back to back.. dont just look at his stats, shooting efficiency, team record, his leadership and sportsmanship BUT look at his teammate's stats. Marion, Amare, Barbosa, Bell, Diaw put up career numbers thanks to Nash (and Coach Mike).
2006 should have been lebron. Dude had a ass team, averaged 31.4 had a 50 win team . Nash had a team where he had amare stoudemire , averaged 19 and 10 and had 54wins🤷♂️ if you ask me I think it should have been lebron

Alot of young ppl clearly didn't understand how the arrival of Nash totally changed their winning culture from 29-53 record (2003-2004 season) to 62-20 record (2004-2005 season) - they even won 31 out of their first 37 games of the season). It is not only an individual's numbers game. They won 33 more games than the previous year with Nash as the only big addition to the team.
@@TheHuskyK9 Kobe was different that year. But Lebron averaged 31 7 7 on 48 % . Won more games than kobe and missed only 2 games. And the lakers won 45 games to the cavs 50 wins.
As a former Warriors season ticket holder, former only because we moved away, it made perfect sense if you knew anything about the Warriors' front office and the heart and mindset of the team. Basketball is a team sport. Kd and the four other guys and LeBronnie and the four other guys are not going anywhere because their egos are too big to pass the ball to a teammate with a better shot.
Funny how Booker seems to be penalized for not being a stat hog? when the suns sucked he put up better numbers when the team got better he became a win at all cost guy, who would you want on your team?
It's not even just Devin Booker. Second best record is Memphis and Ja Morant is maybe....5th in our eyes as potential MVP. Warriors are third seed and Steph is not currently in the MVP converstaion. 4th best record is the heat, and none of their players are in MVP talk. You have to get to the 5th best record (the Bucks) before you get a top MVP candidate.
Because its a team game, the Suns are such a balanced team, take Booker out, they still easy a playoff team, 76ers, Nuggets and Bucks are complete trash without the MVP candidates. MVP was always the best player of the best team because they were mostly the actual best players in the league apart from Nash probably. Star Teams were the meta back then, now balanced and deep teams like the suns are the meta

Curry 9. Harden 10. Tatum All of those players are established superstars in the league and as you can see, those are not 7 players.
Memphis is leading the NBA in total rebounds, offensive rebounds, blocks, and steals. Everyone on the roster is in their 20s... youngsters that are quick and aggressive. Ja is a great leader. Yet Memphis is 15 wins, 2 losses without Ja. A team that hustles!
Suns have the best road record and if they win out they'll have the best road record in NBA history and if they lose one road game tie the 73 win warriors in road wins. The suns have the #1 and #2 top clutch players in the league, they have the number 1 rated offense #1 rated point differential #3 rated defense they're number 1 in field goal percentage, number one record against teams with a winning record and the only team that's beat every team this season not to mention they're 9 games ahead of the Grizzlies and literally every other team besides Memphis have lost double the suns have. Suns are also like 46-0 after leading in the third quarter, I just don't see anyone beating them.
The fact the suns who got the best record in the NBA and no one on that roster will win an accolade for example Devin Booker MVP Mikal Bridges defensive player of the yr and such you see what I mean. Also Andrew Wiggins don't deserve to be all star starter reason he got there because kawhi, Paul George and AD was all banged up due to injuries. Wiggins has been a disappearing act after the all start game average around 13.5 points per game.
I mean to be fair, the same reason you use to bash wiggins being an allstar is also the reason booker even became an allstar. Dame, curry, and klay were injured, so booker got his first allstar in 2020. Harden and Westbrook moved conferences, klay was still injured, so booker got his second allstar in 2021. And then this year, no more harden in the west, Westbrook washed, klay missed the first half of the season, Dame injured, and even with that young guards like Ja and Luka already being picked over booker in 2022.
@@MrE_ yh but Booker was the next man up, Wiggins didn’t deserve that spot there were still guys way better who had had a better season and didn’t start. KAT and Rudy gobert to name a few.
@@misaelchalas8561 it doesn't really matter who started, the fact is that KAT and Gobert rightfully were allstars this year along with wiggins who definitely deserved to at least be in the conversation for allstar, especially looking at the lack of competition for healthy forwards/centers. Lebron, jokic, gobert, KAT, AD, Kawhi, PG should be secured spots, with guys like Draymond, wiggins, ayton, Ingram, zion being borderline. It just so happens that 3 of the top 7 were injured, and the warriors had been doing really well before the allstar break, so wiggins got in. Also take into account that the rules changed for voting, where in previous years you'd have to pick 1 center, 2 forwards, 2 guards. This year forwards/centers were all together, so it might have thrown people off when voting for who should be in a starting 5. People may have chosen a random forward since usually 2 centers in a starting 5 doesn't happen. I know I would have voted for either Draymond or wiggins over KAT or gobert solely on positioning with jokic already in the lineup
I think people are often missing the fact that there are also other players than superstars who affect games. I hate when people say shit like "Lebron vs Curry"... no... it's Lakers vs Warriors.
When mvp was decided based on record people complained. Now people still complain because booker isn't a favorite. Booker is just a scorer and that's all. I can't think of anything else he does good in all honesty. Cp3 should have mvp consideration. Also booker ain't better than luka, ja, gianni's, embiid, jokic and DeMar
Most Valuable Player to a team is different than the best player in the Leauge it isn't that hard to understand yet the media flip flops the two as they fell they should
The only argument for Book not being MVP is because of Chris Paul. Most believe Paul is the reason they are so successful, so Book isn’t the most VALUABLE.
It's really a combination of things, Chris Paul is the main thing. The Suns also just happen to have the most insane depth of any team right now. The Suns are a top 3 defense and Booker isn't exactly known to be a 2-way monster. The other candidates are doing a lot more heavy lifting for their teams in comparison.
I think the suns wouldn't really be that high because of book its more of a team effort and CP3's leadership that contributing to that teams success. Shaq dominated the whole NBA thats why he won.
The Playoffs this year are gonna be must 👀📺 from the opening round especially that 4 and 5 East Coast seeds...this is coming from a Warriors fan btw...

The NBA definitely felt weird after the 2015-2016 season. Stats are inflated compared back in the early 2010s (maybe because of players shooting more 3s and more fast paced games i guess). Superstars like harden, westbrook, kyrie etc. changes teams every season what it felt like. Awards dont really make sense just like you said in the video, it felt like they change or at least consider other more factors in awarding players. that is a bit of recency bias, maybe not in your case because you became a watcher only years ago, but if you look the mvp races for 10-15 years ago, there is the same amount of high caliber superstars that could have won then compared to now.

Then give it to lebron.

Jokic's the MVP in my eyes and it's not even close, so there should be another exception to the "criteria". He's the Nuggets whole offense and is doing things at his position we didn't know were even possible to achieve.
Jokic is leading the league in total rebounds, defensive rebounds, PER, win shares, offensive win shares, win shares per 48, bpm, offensive/defensive bpm and vorp, and those are not misleading stats like guys with 9 ppg leading the offensive rating category, those are legit.
And on top of that he's 2nd in fgs while being 12th in attemps, 2nd in defensive win shares, 2nd in rpg, has the same defensive rating as Embiid, and is like the "real" true shooting pct leader since all the guys above him doesn't even come close to attempt a 3pointer.
The only things both Giannis and Embiid lead or come close to lead? Ppg and free throws, and you know what's funny? The Joker would lead the league in those categories too if he would get the calls he deserves, because he's technically averaging half the attempts of those 2 and you can't tell me with a straight face that he doesn't get fouled at least 85% as much. And who knows, maybe with more fta the Nuggets would have a couple of more wins and you wouldn't disqualify him for their seeding (;
@@Moersfreak i agree with your first point, but the east is definitely stronger than the west this year

The reason why team standings don’t matter in MVP races is because of Steve Nash winning two MVPs. He ruined everything and in the end, those MVPs are the only thing Nash won.
MVP has always been about impact and nash was stupidly impactful. He alone was the offensive engine of one of the best teams in the league
@@ztlabraptor211 MVP is best player in the league. Simple. Shoulda been Kobe who had way better numbers.

CP3 diluted Booker's MVP case.
I think initially Book didn't get Mvp buzz because it was hard to tell if him or cp3 was the most valuable player
Great vid. Well done

Why?
Let's just say that giant inflatable Raptor had some powerful friends.
I really thought it was just me…. 🤦🏾♂️it has gotten confusing and boring in a way.
comparing prime shaq to devin booker averaging 25 ppg is actaully insane
This was the Shot Status GOAT video.
Honestly bro I wish I watch this video earlier and the only reason I’m making this comment is as positive criticism but the only reason why I didn’t is because of the thumbnail it looked too generic in my opinion and like other videos. No hate at all this is just a testament to how good your video was
You complaining the mvp race is not the same as before when it is mostly be pick from the winning team then complain right away that the all star selection is using the same format as before and not changing it? Bro be more consistent.
I'm ready 4 swishout video 4 a month now
I literally forgot James harden and Russell Westbrook rockets phase
i’ll sum up the thumb
Lakers: Bron can’t do everything. not just ab scoring. lakers can’t play D
Wiggins having a career year
Book ehhhh. tough one not as efficient as we think
I think d book has been great this year and should be 4th in MVP race but his numbers don't compare to the top 3 in embid, jokic and Greek freak. And consider that earlier this year we were having the same conversation about cp3 being in the MVP race. It just seems like some false hype. Embid and Greek freak have their teams sitting top 3 in conference and jokic has denver holding on to the 6th spot without his 2nd and 3rd best players all year.
About the MVP list, people need to chose their criteria... If it's more about stats, It's hard not to give it to Jokic... But with this record, it's ridiculous that neither CP3 or Booker are in the MVP conversation... Embiid and Giannid are amazing but they don't have neither Jokic's stats nor the Suns' record...
I’ve enjoyed the basketball , and eve thing going on this season but damn. Taking a step back like you did here puts it in a completely different. Except that the big brother team NYK still don’t get better
9:37. HEY HEY HEYYY
Before even watching this, even if the suns win 70 games, Booker ain’t the mvp
You really add Ben Simmons 😂😂😂
Bradley Beal scored 30 ppg last year and was an 8th seed where was this same energy
And Curry averaged 32 and was the 8th seed too, and didn’t made the playoffs !
Mann Swish don’t miss
even in the heat of battle this man swish don’t miss
Book isn’t top 3 in MVP because he’s not by far the best player on his team, every other MVP that u showed that was a 1 seed was by far the best player on their team up until Steve nash
