What a great reminder! If you are afraid of bugs so you don’t garden, you may just be eating bugs in the future! Nobody is going to feed your family but you.
I encounter them from time to time in the gardens. I leave them alone or if they are where I need to be I just pick them up and move them. I don’t even kill spiders anymore, everything has a purpose.
I totally understand. Years ago, someone stopped in for a visit, and caught me kneeling on the counter and taking all the contents of the cupboards out. Dishes stacked beside the sink, ready to be washed. "Did you see a bug?" He knows me too well. Yes, a little pantry beetle, but there could have been more, or it could have walked all over things. Everything was washed, the cupboards bleached and all set to rights again before I could relax. And yet, I have accidentally stepped barefoot into dog poop, slipped and fallen headlong in a muddy chicken pen, etc., and that didn't bother me.

You have to put up with the bad to get to the good and getting the harvest is priceless when you harvest it yourself oooooh yes the money you save is the best part❤❤❤😅
Ha ha ha! Mrs. Heart! Try changing your mindset regarding bugs on your produce. Instead of allowing yourself to freak out, be thankful! Yes! Feel fortunate that your produce is healthy and without pesticides. Smile when you see them! It's all good! lol! With that being said, if its a black widow... freak out! Ha ha ha! Also, employ a few nonvenomous snakes and a few toads. You van collect toads on wet roads at night. Yes, I understand how our gardens save us money. Thank you for reminding us. So... why are you not hardening off those onions for storage?🤔 Enjoy your garden guys!
Horn worms, I can hardly stand the way they feel between my finger and thumb, however, if I can help it, they are not going to destroy my tomato crop.😳
😅 so on time. I prayed and asked God to help me with my weakness as far as the bugs. I am so excited to know God is preparing me to garden. I just asked Him to make sure my future husband will step in on those days and moments 🤣🤣🤣 until he comes equip me with sufficient grace to do what i need to do. I always wanted to grow a garden and God has been preparing me mentally for it and educating me on several channels as to what to start purchasing and learning what zone im in! 4:44 🤣😂😭 you sound like me Mrs H❣️. Im shutting everything down until we find it and kill it! Aint no taking it outside so it can get back in.
@@cygna1237 Thank you. Yes I have read up on that some as well. I will definitely go over all of this more especially when I'm closer to actually ready to plant as I have the supplies and know I'm ready I can't wait❣️🙏🏾🥰
@@WITHGODSGUIDANCEANDDIRECTION You are very welcome. That was the first thing I was taught by my grandfather, that and companion gardening. If you know what grows with what, your garden will be bigger, more productive to grow those things together, and get some marigolds. Plant them with veges. Good luck and I hope you enjoy gardening. It's in my blood. ha
@@cygna1237 Awesome Blessings to you. It's in my blood too. I did not have anyone like your grandfather to teach me but the desire has always been strong. I thought I would do it when I purchased my last home, which I'm no longer there, but I did not grow food. I had a flower garden. I use to think I did not have enough room. I learned better years later. My neighbor across from me moved out and the new neighbors grew a garden right on the side of their home in a tiny spot. At that time too much was going g on and I did not. The urge has always been so strong. Now I'm in an apartment and I'm about to be moving soon. So when I do I will start there❣️ I have my brother growing now. We talked about this last year because the LORD kept dropping it in my spirit. My lil brother is 11 years under me. In his 40's and just married last October. He shares his success with me through pictures. Our FATHER is from South Carolina. They moved up to the city when he was a baby or toddler. Funny thing they never had a garden up in the city. My mother's mother did and she was from the city. That is awesome that you had your grandfather teach you I miss my grandfather.
Better bugs than trapping a skunk instead of garden eating rabbits to relocate. Now that's not fun trying to move and release that. Thought a black and white kitten. Got close and backed up carefully.😂
Oh listen, every year it’s a new bug in our garden! First the leaf footed bugs were driving me nuts, still are! BUT, this year we have eyed click beetles, and those scared me something serious! 😂 And our moths are extremely aggressive, I guess because I’m always removing their eggs, but oh well!! 😂😂
I love gardening and preserving the food that I grow. I know there's bugs in the garden, I just don't want to be intimate with them. I personally don't want to eat food that bugs won't eat!
When I was younger, I wanted a garden so bad, I dug a 20 x40 space, and it was full of red stinging ants. I thought that was the end. But I found help on you tube, and went to work. My garden was so huge I couldnt give stuff away. I didn't know how to can, but I froze, dried and gave veges. haha Just have to roll down the sleeves and get to it. ha
I have now did two gardens. We don’t garden in the summer because it’s way too hot where I live. So I did one that I started late September last year. And then I started another one slow and January. However, last month just overnight everything died like it had 100° Day just like overnight somebody came and killed. Everything didn’t make any sense. You would’ve thought it would’ve been a little slower and I was watering twice a day because it was so hot the tomatoes. One had a sunscreen around it the other one didn’t and they died identical don’t understand, but I’m so we’ll see what happens when I start at the middle of September starts off a little bit. Start getting things ready towards the end of August when I have my son, but those heavy bags up on top of the beds for me to spread the new stuff and the fertilizer that I haven’t used before but I think it’s gonna be a good one.
I’m afraid of even the butterflies 😂. But I’ll just have to do it scared 🤷🏽♀️. I’m extremely afraid of bugs, the sound of a bug flying freaks me out! Idk where it came from, I’m not afraid of most things, but bugs, I have an extreme fear. But you know what’s scarier than bugs? Trusting a system that proves to not care about your health to feed you and your family…
Also, while you can, if you get green onions at the store, do not toss the white part! Stick it in dirt. Water it. You'll have green onions. Keep seeds from veges that are organic, and peppers, Put them in solo cups with a hole on the bottom in soil and water, and see if they grow. Toss old vege scraps that are not good enough to make soup broth with in a compost bucket.
I hate bugs too, especially spiders. So, I use neem leaf powder & cinnamon on my plants & ground until my plants form buds to bloom. I dont want to repell pollinators, so I only use it on the ground after the buds form. I'll dust the leaves of adult plants if there is an insect attacking my plants, which has 9nky happened once in the last 14 years, otherwise, early plant dusting and ground treatment seems to work just fine. But, Im going to grow and raise as much of my own food as I can, for as long as I am able to. Bugs, manure, and all. Honestly, I don't think about it until something touches me. Then I knock it off, do my eeby jeeby squirm & dance, knock all of the imaginary bugs off of me that I'm sure I feel, then I get back to my gardening. Stay focused on what your trying to accomplish, and the rest will work itself out.
Growing is more important than ever, outweighs the fear of bugs! I just watched a video of the CA FDA talking about they can and will be putting vaccines in lettuce and tomatoes (to start with) as soon as they can "come up with the correct amount"!!!! Such scary things going on 😢 I'm Growing my own. This year has been super hard in FL due to excessive heat. My tomatoes are not producing fruit due to it, all cucumber plants fried. So, I'm Hoping for a few weeks of reduced temperatures at or below 90 so that my tomatoes will finally produce some fruit. I have 37 plants and it's really sad. They are an absolutely beautiful condition everything is perfect but the heat. Grapes Green Beans and strawberries did excellent so I'm not at a total loss and thankful for that. If worse comes to worse I'm gonna start over in September. Then can my butt off! LOL What I'm saying is the bugs you have to deal with. They aren't as important as eating healthy foods!
I'm a therapist, in several different specialties however I would 100% suggest a combination of cognitive behavioural therapy and hypnotherapy to overcome phobias of bugs..there's a difference between not being comfortable with creepy crawlies and an outright fear which impacts your life daily or stops someone achieving a rounded life..personally I think not being able to grow food is such an issue. 2 or 3 sessions would have such a problem gone.
Many years ago I grew broccoli and when I soaked it before eating, there was a worm! In the garbage it all went. I haven't grown broccoli again until now. I harvested a few of my veges that were ready. I had a small bit of broccoli that was soon to flower so it needed to be eaten, cauliflower, carrot, turnip and some peas. I soaked the broccoli and cauliflower in salt water and there was a nice juicy worm at the top. I picked it off and let it go down the drain, mixed all the rest together and put some Ranch dressing on it and it was delicious. I think that means I've grown up. LOL!
Can I ask if you grow garlic and if so how do you preserve it for long term storage? I just harvested mine and not sure how to keep it afterwards. I live in SE OKLAHOMA so our heat is insane. Thank you
I grow garlic, you can make garlic butter and freeze it, you can dehydrate and make garlic powder, you can put in food processor and make small balls of garlic like with ice cream style scoops and freeze and use that way. You can do a honey ferment for immune support tonic. Depending on the type of garlic you can keep some in a cool dry dark area for a few months as well to use fresh. This isn't all the ways even just what I do. A TIP for peeling lots of garlic at once, soak the cloves in water and the skins slide right off. Makes a time consuming job faster and so much easier.
I'm not really afraid of the bugs, but I"m afraid of the big pests like ground hogs/rats and all those for legged pests And I haven't seen them but I've been seeing mounts of dirt in places in my garden that makes me want to quit.
These" bugs",some are not normal!! Has anyone in all there life every see a bumble bee carry off a honey bee?? I just did today, it look a rest for a min on a leaf right next to my head to get a better grip on the honey bee, had the honey bee grasped by the neck.Damn thing looked up at me( getting ready to take a pic) and flew off. I know, know one going to believe me, that is why I wanted a pic.
I wish I could have a garden, but where I live it is not possible. So unfortunately I have to go to the food stands, grocery store. But I do can as much as possible. I have a nice pantry going on.
Do you have a patio, porch or veranda? If so you could grow in a Greenstalk. It only takes 2 feet square and can grow 30 plants in the original and in the other with smaller pockets you can grow 42 I think. You might want to look into it. It can even be used indoors with grow lights.
Thankfully I am not that scared of bugs or even a snake now and then, as long as I can identify the type of snake. I guess I getbit from my grandmother 😊. My mom was petrified of bugs and boy when she saw a snake! I had to be the one to get and lied telling her, na he won't come back out of the woods 😂, worse she believed me, just a child at the time 😂😂😂
lol, not a fan of bugs either but, I would hate being hungry more than I hate bugs. Plus the quality of food and growing food to lower food bill… priceless

@@Maspets you are just stuck feeling sorry for yourself. Really sad and desperate. You can keep rabbits in a very smalll space and make amazing fertilizer. It’s my main additive. A cheap bag of organic alfalfa pellet is what I spread 1 x per year. I may spread some kelp granule here and there. Collection of oak leaves is probably my largest implement which I could gather simply from my dad who lives in town and his neighbors if I simply asked. I also gather weeds and make fertilizers. Ha ha ha! Mrs.
So... why are you not hardening off those onions for storage?🤔
Enjoy your garden guys!
Aint no taking it outside so it can get back in.
along with what zone you are in, learn moon seasons...read old farmer's almanac, it's online. You get good tips there as well.
How are you preserving those onions?
Shut it down lock down sounds like what the guard says at the prison 😅😅
I don't care for bugs, but im not going to that stop me, no way!
When I was younger, I wanted a garden so bad, I dug a 20 x40 space, and it was full of red stinging ants. I thought that was the end. But I found help on you tube, and went to work. My garden was so huge I couldnt give stuff away. I didn't know how to can, but I froze, dried and gave veges. haha Just have to roll down the sleeves and get to it. ha
I wish I lived in a place where we could garden , I use 5 gallon buckets for tomatoes and bell peppers ❤ .
Sounds like herbicide drift? Hmmm.
@@estherj5887 since I knew it this, what do you mean?
I just shared some home grown carrots with a couple of neighbors... The taste is soooo much better... I will garden until I drope! 😀
Wait a minute... Mrs. H. Aren't your eyes bothering while cutting the onions?🧅😢
It's the heat I can't stand. So early morning is my time.
Sometimes there's bugs in the produce at the store. I'll grow my own veggies, no pesticides...all organic.
LOL!
If your afraid to grow food it may be time to practice clutching pearls while hiding in a dark room and rocking back and forth.
I read an article where you can boil vinegar and put it over garlic to store in your refrigerator for months.
I love to grow my own veggies. They taste different from other veggies that you buy in the store.
Can you dehydrate too long, and if so how do you know? Im new to this
How do I find the vacuum sealer. Thank you.
Hey Mrs H 😊
👍👍
I keep bees but I don’t like all bugs! 😂 🥰☀️🐝
The only bug that we get in our garden is what we call stink bugs. They are usually on our tomatoes.
❤❤❤
I wish I could have a garden, but where I live it is not possible. So unfortunately I have to go to the food stands, grocery store. But I do can as much as possible. I have a nice pantry going on.
Do you have a patio, porch or veranda? If so you could grow in a Greenstalk. It only takes 2 feet square and can grow 30 plants in the original and in the other with smaller pockets you can grow 42 I think. You might want to look into it. It can even be used indoors with grow lights.
Learn how to container garden. You won't regret it.
WHAT!! you don't like creepy crawling things 😂😂!
Thankfully I am not that scared of bugs or even a snake now and then, as long as I can identify the type of snake. I guess I getbit from my grandmother 😊. My mom was petrified of bugs and boy when she saw a snake! I had to be the one to get and lied telling her, na he won't come back out of the woods 😂, worse she believed me, just a child at the time 😂😂😂
Better than eating bugs that are in food you buy … legally 😢
❤
lol, not a fan of bugs either but,
I would hate being hungry more than I hate bugs. Plus the quality of food and growing food to lower food bill… priceless
Gardening EATS money like crazy. Stop lying.

I chop and drop grass and any weeds I find. Yeah I have chickens which I also compost the manure… there are 1000 ways to do things. You’re just a pitiful human who wants to blame others for your failures and needs hand outs. Living on a farm or not , I actually know people in town settings doing amazing things with their property with tiny livestock and being creative with what they can find and make into something utilizable.
Wasting your life criticizing others for being better is a waste of time. Get a hobby and stop watching channels where people do better than you at life.
I won’t comment any further towards stupidity. I’m busy with actual life.
N if the govt come after the homesteaders r u prepared for that. I couldnt stand for long periods of time , my back gives out . Guess id be sitting . I also cant bend
I want to know what your doing with your onions?
I hate tree frogs!! Omg i can deal with bugs but those frogs...no ma'am. I have been trapped outside of my house many of time because of those stupid frogs on the door 😭😭
Knock those bugs out of the way and keep gardening can we get a garden tour thanks
