      My quest for moving to electric and away from gas had the following criteria, (1) known brand name (2) battery cost and compatibility for trimmers and leaf blowers, and battery cost.(3) purpose built as an electric mower. Some brands took last years gas mower and put an electric motor on top. Cost is a factor but you get what you pay for. Stihl was my choice.

    Great video; however in my opinion, the Stihl RMA 510V may have been a better comparison to the Echo mower…

      Yes, I compared these because they're close in price. ECHO has a new mower this year that I'd like to make a new video comparison with.

    Two days ago I purchased the stihl 510 36 volt with the 7.5 Amp battery. With fast charging unit. The stihl 510 is very quiet. Compared to the Toro and work nitro. Which both when running are as loud as whine, from the exhaust end. Of a fully spooled up turbine engine.

    • @MarkThomasBuilder
      @MarkThomasBuilder  2 года назад +2

      I like the quieter sound when running battery powered mowers. The 510 model looks nice. I like the way Stihl gets up to top speed quickly.

    Quite a lot of changes since this video on the RMA460. Comes with a 36 volt, 4.8 amp battery with an excellent increased run and quicker charging time. Two inch narrower deck not an issue for me and my needs. I like the one handed height adjustment feature. Currently the Stihl sells here in 🇨🇦 at $700.00 plus tax for the set of mower, AK30 battery and charger. Expensive! I am buying it anyway as a Stihl fan and already have a number of quality Stihl equipment.🇨🇦👍👍👍👍👨‍🦳

    Might wanna Compare apples with apples. Area covered on a 19” vs 21”? What were you expecting when they both weigh virtually the same.
    Didn’t mention built quality, steel vs plastic. Hight adjusters, steel vs plastic. And the “on off” switch you referred to on the Stihl is actually the eco mode switch. Not sure if the Echo has this.

    • @MarkThomasBuilder

      ECHO upgraded their mower now to their 56v eForce. This comparison is mostly to show how 2 similar priced items compare. Either one will mow your lawn just fine, but I figured I would show you some results from my series of tests. Also, the new ECHO one is self propelled.

    Your 5min of mowing : area is inconsistent since the echo lawn mower cutting weight is 21 inches and the Stihl is only 19 inches. Now do the same test with both mowers being either 21 inches or 19 inches then post the results, but other than that it was still a awesome video.

    I think the Echo looks sexier than the Stihl but looks more "plasticky" (weaker?) than the Stihl. Anyway...not sure Echo is available in Aus. Another issue... is Echo a long term player? Victa 82v line has been discontinued which is very unfortunate and now all us Victa owners are scrambling about looking for batteries. Hopefully Stihl will be around a long time. So...Stihl for me.

    yeah I'd say both these mowers are pretty lacking. the rma 460 for one thing is part of their residential line and echo's 58v platform as a whole is not great. I'm definitely excited for their new 56v stuff but their 58v platform is pretty bad from what I've seen. and the stihl rma 510 is rather underwhelming given it's part of their professional AP line.

    Why does the echo get a star for size, you picked the smallest model that Stihl makes. Also the bag size? You said both were emptied 3 times, and how much it cut in ten minutes. The echo was a bigger radius, so obviously it would cut more. You put a smaller machine against a slightly bigger machine and then penalized it for your choice. Personally I’d say they are pretty much even
