How do you duplicate? You said press + and my keyboard cannot press + without using the shift.
The + and = are on the same button.

+ key you need to press from Numeric Keys that is left side on standard keyboard. if you have keyboard without left numeric pad you can also press Ctrl D to duplicate object.
