How to Tie the Weaver's Knot - How to Join Two Pieces of Yarn

  • I often use the Weaver's Knot when adding more line when making a fishing net. When tying the yearn together using the Weaver's Knot dress it smartly and then push pull etc. to ensure that the two pieces of yarn stay together. If not, I often revert to using the Surgeon's Knot to join more difficult pieces of line How to Tie the Surgeon's Knot Video: • How to Tie the Surgeon...
    As shown in the video, the Weaver's Knot is the same structure as the Sheet Bend. However, they are tied differently. When tying the Sheet Bend in yarn, it can be rather difficult to tie, using the Weaver's Knot method, just makes it a little easier to create the knot.
    I have found that when making a fishing net, some of the netting twine can be a bit slippery. So as mentioned above, give the knot some tensioning and then slacking to see if it works loose. If you find that no matter what knot you use, just put a little dab of finishing solution on the knot and let it dry. Here is a video to the finishing solution that I use, not just for protecting rope work, but also for locking up knots nice and tight.

    Excellent and thank you. I was struggling to do this based on drawings in a book - so much better to see it being done. And it worked! Hooray!

      @@KnottingKnots I've been playing with dried leaves (cordage) and garden prunings and practising knotting, weaving and looping. I'd started with just using wool for the looping stitches (half hitch) and needed to join the strands so this was really helpful. Thanks.

      @@KnottingKnots Ah no. I just do things because I like creating stuff and love learning new skills. I have several projects on the go at one time so I can dip in and out. I often find that techniques and ideas transfer from one type of craft to another.

      When you tie a sheet bend, do you use this method of the sailors way?

  • @joeinthebush

    Handy knot..been using it for a bit now..works well for tying net needles to .
    Small knot so i dont have to splice in at the next mesh...i just add where it lays..
    (at least for smaller twine,bigger twine or rope style doesn't look so nice with big knots in the leggings.

    • @KnottingKnots
      @KnottingKnots  2 года назад

      Yep, that is what I use it for also. I personally find that if the Weaver's Knot does not work in the twine that I am using, the Surgeon's Knot will then do a better job. I guess that you also make your own netting needles?

      @@KnottingKnots i did for my 1st couple..than i bought a cheap plastic set on amazon..
      Smaller ones are ok ,but the bigger ones don't stand up to me strong arming every knot .
      So i have been looking for different materials.I've tried the wire needles too but they dont feel right.
      Found a pretty thin piece of Teflon .might cut a couple needles out of, seems ridgid enough..
      I have seen stainless steel ones might have to break down and buy a couple..
      Been tying purse nets for use as shopping bags etc..
      Stripped ones are handy..i can use up my part rolls of string..
      Also weaving / lacing lawn chair frames that the material has been riped/ torn..and discarded..oddly after i lace or weave them..ppl want them back..
      Time to stock up on cordage..
      With 6 months of winter you find things to tie .

      @@joeinthebush I have in the past used Hazel as the hedge-line near near me is full of the stuff. I find it very easy to work with, and has a fair amount of flex along the length of the wood. I do have a really old antique one made of oak. Now this one is as hard as nails, but I would have hated to have carved it. I personally use my purse nets as hammock for some clothing and the dogs soft toys. I think I will have to lookout for an old chair and have a go at lacing/weaving a new seat etc.

    Oh well now I really must remember to try this tomorrow when I’m sewing! What a great knot! I’d love to
    Know your recommendation for an end knot -
    Ie to start off sewing! I just twist it around my finger and pull (hard to explain but I’m sure you get the jist!) but I always use gray check on waxed thread as it can come undone over time! Thanks John great video as always

      @Anonymous Won thank you! I just looked this up- this is pretty much how I secure the end of the sewing but I’m wondering for how you start? The small end at the end of the thread? Or do you mean you do the same? The knot wouldn’t be very thick I imagine?

    • @KnottingKnots
      @KnottingKnots  2 года назад

      I do know a few end of line knots, but I would imagine that many of them would be very hard to tie in fine thread. I will have to consult Ashley's Book of Knots to see whether that covers this sort of thing?
