  • Want a challenge!?? Materials Listed Below! This Chair Was Meant to be Simple to Make but Became More and More Elaborate. I Hope the Weaving Part Make Sense. The Measurements of The Chair Changed as I Went Along and Is a Smaller Than a 1:12th Scale Chair. The Weaving Will Look Much Better on a Larger Scale Chair. 1:12th Dollhouse Chair Scales would be Approx. Height: 100 mm Width: 45 mm Depth: 45 mm (Depending on the Style Of course).
    I Used 2 mm Plywood, Sewing Thread, Water colours, Mod Podge Matt Sealer, Tacky glue / Wood Glue, Square Soft Wood Dowels 5 mm and 3 mm and Pebeo INC Pebeo Cerne Relief Transparant to Create Detail on The Back of the Chair. If You Enjoyed Watching this Tutorial, Please Like and Subscribe!

      Thank you Robyn💕😊 You can always give it a go. The chair was meant to be a lot simpler but I always get carried away. The first 'weaving' part took me a long time to make but it's because I was watching how the real cane chair makers weave the canes and I kept making mistakes😊 The second one was so much quicker to make after I learnt the process.

      Yes, as they say “practice makes perfect “. I think it could be done on a bigger frame first until you get the hang of it and then do it on the smaller scale. Was fascinated by the needle as I have not seen anything like that before. The only thing that comes close is the needle threader and I don’t think that would be very successful. Anyway thanks for sharing, you really did a fantastic job. Cheers Robyn ❤️

      Thank you very much💕😊 I used 2 mm thick plywood as it was strong enough to drill the holes in. Only problem with the plywood is that some of the layers might chip off. Any hard wood is good to use. Balsa wood might be too soft for the weaving part.

      Fabulous work and the patience you have just wow 🤯 question: how long did it take you in real time to finish that chair? I might try to make one 😅 depending on how long it took you 😂 and what wood did you use for the chair?
      Thank you for sharing your amazing talent ❤

    • @tinycraftlife
      @tinycraftlife  4 месяца назад

      Thank you😊💕As @cubcakes9815 mentioned, the needle is a beading needle. They can be found in different lengths too. I bought mine on Amazon but I'm sure they are available on other shops/websites. It was the only really thin needle I had so I used it for the weaving. The first weaving took me a while to get right but the second one was much quicker.

    • @tinycraftlife
      @tinycraftlife  4 месяца назад +1

      @karakreations1103 Thank you so much 💕😊Unfortunately this is not a quick make. Drilling the holes was tedious and took some time but making the rest of the wooden parts took me a couple of hours. I watched real Cane chair weaving processes and tried to figure out the technique. To be honest, it took me about 3 hours to make the first 'weaving' (the seat) but that was between stopping to watch the making of a cane chair and me getting things wrong. After I understood the process and the technique, the back of the chair took me about an hour to weave. I hope I have made the process clear in my video. For the wood I used 2 mm thick plywood as it was strong enough to drill the holes in. One annoying thing about the plywood is that some of the layers might start to chip off. I just used glue to glue them back on. I think balsa / bass wood might be too soft so any wood that is hard enough to drill the holes in is best for the weaving part.

    Love this chair and enjoyed doing the weaving, after I figured out the error in the instructions and redid it all. I think I can figure out all of the missing measurements, like the arms and the cutout where the back joins the seat, but it would be very helpful if you would be able to tell me the length to cut for the legs, please. Thank you for sharing this beautiful project.

    • @tinycraftlife
      @tinycraftlife  2 месяца назад

      You are very welcome 💕 I do apologise for the errors. I made a few mistakes when weaving and redid them a couple of times and I must have accidentally added the mistake parts / video clips when editing the video (there were many😂). Glad you managed to figure out the weaving though. The length of the legs for this chair are 25 mm. Please don't hesitate to message me if you have any more questions.

    • @deniselocke559
      @deniselocke559 Месяц назад

      @@tinycraftlife Thanks so much for your sweet reply. I did make the chair, guessing at arm measurements and using 3mm for the legs, placing them on the inside. I had done some real chair caning in the far distant past, so I think that helped with the weaving. The caning should have a border around it - just filling the gaps between rows, from hole to hole, to create a nice finished edge, so I did that and am very pleased with the little chair. Looking forward to more videos.

    • @tinycraftlife
      @tinycraftlife  Месяц назад

      @@deniselocke559 I'm so happy you finished the chair. I can imagine it looks wonderful. I watched some chair caning videos to try to understand the weaving. @@tinycraftlife Here in the U.S., there is a kit available to cane just a small foot stool, the perfect way to try it out and see if you like caning. Maybe you can find something similar in NZ. It can get a bit messy, as I recall, as you have to soak the cane and then keep it wet while working. I will make your chair again too, I think, as I didn't do the arm carving, just made them flat. I did carve the legs and back, and it was easier and quicker than I expected. Great project, thanks again!
