Chunkz spitting facts only! I've been overweight all my life and my mom has always forced me to lose weight, even though I personally wasn't motivated and didn't "mind" being big. A few months ago I finally had the click and was able to lose weight and keep it off because my heart was actually in it this time and of course I also realised the consequences. It's the confusion nowadays with people who are bigger accepting themselves being taking out of context. Its as if a bigger person loving themself is them saying they dont care about their health....When thats far from the truth. Absolutely love your body in all shapes and sizes and wear what you want regardless of what size but accepting oneself should not come before your health.

Exactly I’m skinny but the way I eat is very unhealthy, sure it’s not affecting me now but it will in the future, meanwhile my mum is overweight yet eats healthier than me, goes on walks to exercise, so imo she’s healthier than me

also medically overweight is kind of a confusing term. I'm medically overweight (my BMI just is like 0.5 - 1 point above normal) but no one would really consider me overweight.
BMI isnt always accurate. If you are quite built then the bmi number may not be accurate due to the increased muscle mass. However for the average person it can be an indication.
I have been overweight most of my life and I felt like I was still at my happiest even when people would judge me but now that I've lost it all I realised that I was just lying to myself. Losing weight from being overweight is the best thing to happen to me since birth.

I was medically overweight but I was genuinely happy until I couldn't find scrubs to fit me at work (I'm a nurse) then people kept telling me I was ugly because I was fat and that men would never like me and I was the fat friend, that destroyed me, so I lost weight.....now I have an eating disorder coupled with anxiety and depression. Looking at myself everyday and weighing daily and being miserable not being able to eat anything I liked, isolating myself because I didn't trust myself not to ruin my food plan by being around others eating normally. Living and breathing gym. It screwed up my head and it probably won't be the same ever again. I'm smaller now, I fit in most clothed now, but am I happy....not at all. Every day I'm terrified of regaining weight. It sucks over here.
This happened because you were trying to loose weight for other people and not for yourself. It should be more about I want to be healthy and not I want to loose weight because x y z people called me ugly.
It’s important to remember that medicine is many times inherently racist. For example, the Body Mass Index charts were not constructed with people of color in mind. There are many people who are “overweight ” according to the standards of European/western medicine but perfectly healthy.
Frayco A lot of medical practices have racist and sexist biases. I learned this in my university health and nutrition class and through research. You don’t have to believe me but a simple Google or JSTOR search would’ve told you all you need to know before making uneducated comments luv. I wish i was waffling honestly

It’s even been suggested and researched as one of the reasons why black ppl dominate track and basketball etc. whereas white ppl dominate sports like swimming. Regardless tho, BMI is an awful health indicator anyways. It was developed based off of the “ideal” white European man hence perpetuating the idea that anything outside or different to that was inferior. As a result, it doesn’t take into account a variety of different factors such as sex, race, ethnicity etc. which could all very much contribute to a higher or lower BMI. Basically, racism in medicine is very real. As a medical student myself, it’s still so very blatant and incredibly sad. I see it all the time. BMI is just an example of how it’s been ingrained into the system.
I love the debate on weight, both sides are so true. They should have this conversation everywhere to help people see both sides and realise what they want
