    Something about the new Escape feels like it went down a segment. Like from the Compact Crossover to Sub-compact Crossover segment.

      They don't make them like they used to. My first car was the 2009 Ford Escape V6 and that was a fun SUV. But nothing like 2017, and this one is nothing like that generation either.

    • @Jay_G9226
      @Jay_G9226 2 года назад +3

      No doubt about that. I had the original 2005 Ford Escape Hybrid. Loved that thing. Any SUV getting over 30mpg was insane at the time. It was a great size - and 4WD. Too bad it died an ugly death at the hands of a criminally incompetent maintenance department at the large Ford dealership outside of Hilton Head. In 2021, I would go for something like the AWD Hyundai Ioniq 5 over this for just a little bit more.

      True, that’s because everything else is getting bigger. Example: new Tucson has about the same storage in the back as the Santa Fe and is barely shorter. So basically almost midsize.

      @@canadious6933 My parents got a 2010 Escape brand new in 2010, their's also has the V6. Still have it, 130k on it. A great, reliable solid vehicle for sure. They haven't done much besides change oil and she runs great.

      @@canadious6933 I will play devils advocate as someone who can frequently a/b compare the generations of escapes on road tests as a ford mechanic. The old 05-12 escapes are for sure simpler and cheaper to fix, but the way it drives is for sure worse in a comfy commuter perspective. Lot more NVH, rides worse, and handles worse than the 13+ models. I’ve done dash out jobs on both the old gen 05-12 escapes and the 13-19 escapes. U can physically see how much thinner and cheaper all the carpeting and sound deadening layers are in the 05-12 escapes which explains the added NVH. If u have the old body generation v6 05-12 escapes with some miles, 90% chance ur timing cover is leaking oil, it’s harder to run into one that isn’t leaking. Also the 05-12 escapes do like to rust a lot more.

    Ours just arrived the past Friday 02-04-22. I love it! It’s very easy to drive and rides very smoothly. The heads up display is purely a gimmick, but that’s ok I guess. I wasn’t too happy that you have to buy a spare tire as an added feature. It does not come standard.

    Manufacturers should real learn a thing or two with how neat and well put together this engine bay is. I had a headlight recently burnout on my car and the whole bumper of my car had to come off just to access the headlight. With this Ford, you can actually reach it... However, in my cars defense, I can reach the low beam on the driver side, that's it.

    37 mile electric range. Why do hybrids have such a low electric range? Will we ever see a hybrid that can do ~150 miles on electric only?

    • @wtfx5757
      @wtfx5757 2 года назад +11

      Not any time soon. At that point, you may as well get a full blown EV. At least thats what the manufacturers want us to believe. This is more for a city dweller who 90% of the time can do their entire daily commute under 40 miles...they would have no need for a 150 mile PHEV. Im with you though...I live out in the country and would appreciate a higher electric range without have to give up my ICE.

    • @MylesV
      @MylesV 2 года назад +4

      Because the average person drives less than 37 miles on a typical day. I can't imagine why anyone would want a 150 mile PHEV, at that point just buy a BEV because the engine would almost never run anyways. The point of a plug in hybrid is to reduce fuel consumption rather than completely eliminate it.

    Thing is that brand new cars you want to lease.... old school cars you want to buy... Its before they started to add things that make them last the least amount of time. Now govt and manufactures are making laws to stop the use of older cars on the street in conjunction with the shrinking market of people owning older cars.....we soon will be in a subscription based ownership.... and if you own a older modern car from 2010 up to whatever year they aren't getting worst with how long they last.... you will have to pay a tax or something for it to be legally driven on the road in many states..... I would say the only car I would buy brand new would be a very uncomplicated ev due to it having very little parts to break in a major way but they do cost a lot out of warranty if they do break. I mean some ev cars have a battery that last for up to 10 years before they give out and you have to drop the price of a new economy car just to get a new battery placed in.
    That to me is a major cost I would not be willing to pay after 10 years but a gas powered modern cars of today, 2021, you get up to 4 years, usually the warranty or most warranties don't cover anything its specifics that keep the warranties from being honored, before every single thing on it starts to break down.... some dealers be breaking people's cars. To be honest... you could get about the same out of the gas powered car as an ev but you really need to know how to work on the cars, which the manufacturers and govt officials are attempting to stop personal and third party repairs....but since a politicians also has a car they will negate, as of now, the manufacture from taking the Right to Repair away because the politician doesn't want to pay too much for repairs and have made a law that screw them out of money.... as long as the current politicians need a car they will protect the Right to Repair....if they don't they may make a law against people fixing their own cars....that's how it works... if the idiot in office don't need it they think none need it so they make dumb laws against people because its not something they personally need or do so they assume none do.... Yeah, we have those type of idiots winning the popularity contest to screw our lives out of stability... NICE voting voters... LOL.
    Since I am a dumb failure I should run for office and start failing upward like the rest of them... LOL . You have to have a personal mechanic you can trust, will not rob you with stuff you don't need, and/or break things on the car while charging you for it... Like the dealership I had to go to with my 2014 Ford Fusion Titanium AWD.... they flashed the car with some software, 2L engine came up as a 1.5L when the information was read out after they flashed the car.... the damage was done but proving they did it was an up hill when I didn't go to them for software issues yet they still flashed the vehicle to make me buy a new one from their dealership... they saw the military plates on the back and thought lets get this person in a new car..... that software made it start acting up in the transmission, the engine fuel delivery, and electrical... the entire car major parts were break, within warranty of the manufacture, and they did not want to fix it until it was out of warranty... nor correct their screw up.... after that terrible experience with a dealer I never will buy a new car ever again or from that manufacture because going through them to get the car fix was hades on earth and it never got fixed I end up selling it.... but if I need a car to get to work I would lease one and hand them their brand new lemons back after 1 or 2 yrs.. The car I would use outside of work would be up to 2010 because I know how to work on many of those cars within that year range. Never get a car with a warranty or insurance that lock you into using specific price gauging shops just to have the warranty honored and they still don't fix it but do other crap to get money out of you.
