The fantasy is one of those kind of openings where you either are super inspired in all the tactical postions it leads to, or you deeply regret choosing it when faced with a dark ocean of variations 😅
Very true. Many of the variations ARENT as tactical. Like when they close it off with e6. Then chess needs to be played.
@@marcofrey2903 actually after e6 Be3 there are a lot of super tactical lines
So true. As a Caro Player myself when I see f3 I go e5 immediately and strap in. It’s always a crazy ride.
@@Hsel-lc1wt Interesting. I’ve been playing the Nc3 Bf4 line. Never looked into that one. Seems a bit more dubious but that shouldn’t matter at my level.
@@marcofrey2903 it was actually played by Smyslov once, you're ok :p
Setting aside the fact that this is some of the best free chess content available online, I must say that it is truly a delight to simply listen to you speak. Your command of the English language is nothing short of stunning. Kudos and heartfelt gratitude, Danya!
I second that! I have also commented in some previous games, that not only you learn top level chess, but also a great deal of "academic" english.
@@ricardf1857 I third that! Especially the phrase 'cognitive dissonance' enchanted me
I fully agree! But one thing that I can't help noticing is that he repeats sentences a lot... is it a twitch thing? Because I notice that Nakamura does it as well.... and it's not something that is common in everyday speech. So I'm just curious where the habit might come from...
@MrJustin-MiniLessons so you won't easily forget them, repetition is usually used to push info to the long term memory
@@wilhelmnorf1651 "Cognitive Dissonance" is a fairly common term, no? I use it a few times a week.
Someone should tell this guy he got a winning position against a GM!
he knows, it tells you that you're playing vs an official speedrun account
@@PM-ty2yr only if you check his account
He cheated. See 19:50
@@michaelvan6675 Bro, are you kidding? Look at all the great moves he played that Danya never even hinted at, like 13:18 Nh5, or especially 17:54 Be6, and the best you have is the move that even a 900 would find, let alone a 1900?
I'm sure his engine told him.
Black followed what Erwin L'Ami suggests in his Caro Kann chessable course. Top notch course about the Caro!
Ok, that video alone is proof you're easily one of the best chess teachers in the world, so much thought into how you explain and what you explain, thanks a lot.
* the best
At 24:45 the position stockfish says at 25 depth is -1.2
So Daniel is right
I watch your videos almost every night to help me fall asleep. you're an excellent content creator
This was another amazing comeback!!!! Beautiful tactics as always!
Every move in every variation while analysing this game is a 3000 elo puzzle.
Ikr this is so rich
Kudos to his opponent for holding on for so long, that game was so tactic heavy that my head was spinning
Perfect timing and perfect way to end my day with an hour of naroditsky!
GM Naroditsky, thank you for taking the time to do these streams!!!! Excellent teaching!!!!
Super super fun game. A tactical fiest... I'm also proud that I saw almost all of them before Danya said them in the game which probably shows how much I watch and love his videos! Thank you danyaaa
"Ce qui se conçoit bien s’énonce clairement, et les mots pour le dire arrivent aisément", citation de Nicolas Boileau. And you do it brilliantly Daniel ! Merci beaucoup et bonne route.
Great Game ! By far one of my favorite episodes yet.
Awesome game!! Thank you for sharing!!
Love the vids man!
one of the best games Ive seen on the speedrun so far! thanks danya
TBF, I really liked the explanation on how to use your time effectively when being behind a piece. Not cheap at all and very interesting.
This is really helpful as a Fantasy convert. I used to play the Van der Weil attack and just found it too abstract, even if it's a bit more promising. It often involves playing with more space, attacking with pawns rather than pieces, and often leaving the king uncastled, all things that made it really chaotic.
Great game. Love watching these!!!
Opponent was off-the-scale good. When he/she knocked out 10 moves of theory instantly in a relatively obscure sideline and the account was only 25 days old, I thought it must be a cheat, but they weren't. Superb game.
great analysis!!!
Beautiful, such games inspire me to improve at chess.
loving the fantasy variation!
Amazing game. Amazing commentary!
Might be the tactically richest game in Speedrun
Great game. What's crazy is this game was played on April 29th and the guy played many games with high accuracy before being banned in May 3rd...
He's not banned.
Man, these lines are absolutely wild! 🔥
Another great lesson.
Finally!!! Back to e4.
Bro I love you thank you for being the best chess teacher on the planet fr
17:39 - "The better calculator is going to win this game"
TI-83 squad REPRESENT!
23:06 "KiNg aaaaaaeigghhhh" LOL
😂😂😂😂😂
Everyone: Tears for Nepo
Daniel: Okay. Times up, Caro-Kann
Boromir: "GIVE THEM A MOMENT, FOR PITIES SAKE!"
Love this
Cheers Danya
Thanks!
I wonder if anyone else would agree that around 20:30 Nc4 would have been a sick move but he missed it? No matter, great vid as always Danya!!
Thank you for the good times, Sensei Danya
Hey Danya, just wanted to thank you for all the amazing instructive content you have been giving us for the past several years, I really learnt a lot from your speedruns as well as your pawn endgame series. It really shows how much care and preparation went it to that series! I also had an opening question. When you have your bishop on c4, when is it bad to allow b5 supported by a6 or c6, and when is it worth it to play a4? For example in the najdorf sicilian, I often get scared that b5 b4 will force my knight away from c3 where it defends the e4 pawn but the engine says its fine to allow b4. I also see a lot of players dropping the bishop immediatly back to b3 in various sicilians. There is also the case Kalashnikov where I fear b5 with both knight on a3 and c3 but apparently its fine also. However in other cramped positions where black players an early c6 in speedrun videos, I have seen you go for a4 preventing b5 and I dont really understand the subtlety of when it is ok to allow b5. Thanks again for all the amazing content :)
Wow, this was a great game!
Danya! Hi :). Hope you're having a great sunday afternoon!
Round of applause for this one Danya
that was a great game!
24:42 Danya guesses the engine evaluation as -1, -1.5,
I am so very sorry to inform you that is in fact already been tried by levy himself, but he gave up on the idea. I know this is probably heartbreaking, but I also know you can pull through this, and find many more really nice and creative ideas in the future
@@procop314 I don't believe this, I spent like a good 2 minutes on the idea and another 2 writing the comment. That's 4 minutes I'll never get back.
11:58 Funniest chess term I've heard in a while "it's geographically a queen side"😂
So basically this variation of the fantasy gives you a free 50 puzzle to solve and analyze! xD a wonderful game!
I feel like I play my best chess a piece down and when I'm either a piece up or clearly a better position I seem to let it slip away
it's the same for me too! in the past, i used to really just lose a pawn and then play amazing practical chess afterwards. Maybe not the most accurate moves, sometimes mistakes even, but moves that put pressure on my opponent and complicated the position. And then just winning the position with tactics.
You are the GOAT.
I would love to see a speed run video with the English opening as white. I know it's not very tactical but i think openings like that could help you showcase positional chess more
Danya has never crossed a bridge before he was getting there😉
super complicated but very exciting game
hahaha what a GREAT video teaser
Now I know why it is called Fantasy Variation. What a fantasy, crazy lines. 😮😂
thanks
40:55 i was considering some silly line like dxe5 Nxg3 exd6 Nxf1 dxe7 Nxd2 exd8=R+ Rxd8 axb3 😂 havent seen what stockfish thinks of it yet but the material count ends up even with a pawn, bishop, knight, rook, and queen for both sides
the best chess sensei of all time
Feels like eating a nutritious buffet of a full day meal. Lot to digest and savor at the same time, making me cognitively dissonance'd for different choices of food in the buffet!
Danya, I always think it so I want to just say it and hopefully you see this. I think one thing hurting your growth is your thumbnails. I’m not saying you should clickbait but some of the viewers who aren’t super active probably think it’s a video they’ve seen before. Anyways, I don’t know anything about RUclips but I want to see you grow and it’s an opinion I had. Love your stuff!
And you’re doing great with growth I just think someone of your caliber should have way more viewers and subs.
49:40 but there was rook takes f7 which is a better move according to the engine
crazy game x2
Not what I was expecting when I googled Danya fantasy ;)
The subtle 5:15 profile check for a cheater (?) after g5 :D
As someone 2000 myself, I've been traumatized enough by the fantasy to learn the main line in and out, and bet that person did the same. I get happy when I see white play a fantasy (or panov) against me nowadays, as it gives me a break from the usual dull positions arising from caro :p
What do you have the biggest problems with? Against advanced c5 or Bf5 camp? ;p Just curious.
No he just archived the game lol
Saw the knight triple fork in the analysis before you mentioned it...im 700.... i feel enlightened
Head spinning tactics in this game. Says a lot about the fantasy.
Why not Knight b6+ after black recapture his bishop on c8?
19:45 i thought he was talking about Rxf7
"shout out to all the people watching on youtube"
hey thats me!!
Man, vindication after Danya points out knxe4. I just couldn't figure out why he wasn't considering it, and chalked it up to me being an idiot.
Hi Danya! Amazing job on WC commentary. But where did you go in last games?
They usually have different commentary teams for portions of the match. I believe him and Anish (sometimes Howell) did games 1 to 7 or most of the first half, and then fabi, hess, and Tania did the last half.
Paul, thanks a lot. Fully understood, but still missed a lot Danya with his incredible feel of position and spotting tactics in a split of second ❤
Has Danya ever commented on the Advance Tal variation?
Around 6:30 my eye was drawn to a2-a4 followed by Na3-c2-e3, is that a solid plan or does it use too much time?
Too much time, and its important to defend the e4 pawn at some point. That knight always ends up as a cog in this opening because youre usually playing c3
W
GG Danya ! fk the fantasy lol joking . Destroy the Caro Kann with the Gedult gambit ! up to 1800 if black knows what their doing your a pawn down but ahead in development, so what big deal. GG!
The Gedult gambit lines easier to remember than the fantasy. Definitely playable ! thanks Danya keep up the great work !
After 5...Bg4 white can also choose 6.c3 line as mentioned in video, why Bc4 is better, are both playable? Do you play both? For 1950 rated opponents?
Would it be possible for you to play one kan Sicilian as black it would help my repertoire a lot
What is one kan
@@Speedster___ its the kan sicilian 1.e4 c5 2.Nf3 e6 3.d4 cxd4 4.Nxd4 a6
My head is spinning
Danya has access to every word he has ever heard or read. i need my dictionary!
All of this but I beat one of these level guys a month ago when I started a new account
I don't understand why Bxf7+ in the opening is no longer possible after Nd7. Can't we play Ng5+ instead of Ne5+?
hey, so if you play Bxf7+, then King takes and after you check on g5 with the knight, blacks queen captures and if you recapture with the bishop black takes the queen. simply down a minor piece in that line.
@@nicolasbarreiro2517 ohhh right. Thanks for the response.
At 30:55 after Nb6+ why not Kb8?
What an incredibly shortsighted thought, to say someone cheated after a game like that (in some of the comments). If you've ever studied an opening seriously, like on Chessable, you'll find that lower rated opponents never play the critical lines because they dont find them. Now this opponent is playing the likes of Danya and he finally gets to play all those lines he memorised..
Gets an advantage over Danya who gets some comp for his lost piece and eventually loses because he reached a massively sharp position against one the highest rated blitz players on the planet..
Massive kudos to this opponent for giving such an interesting game!!
So.
Much.
Tactics....
My brain just exploded. This game almost makes me want to quit chess again.
Huh? Nah this game makes me wanna play chess more
e4 vs d4 players summarized in one exchange 😂
@@grantjones1138 hahaha facts
8:51 - that's why I never end a line of my preparation unless I have a bouquet of at least decent moves. Doesn't mean I'm prepared for every move ever, but I try to at least make it so if I stray from the right path it still takes some moves to inaccurace myself into a worse position.
I don't understand why black doesn't have kb8 after nxb6+
i found knight to b6 check in 30 seconds ,but alas still 1700
Doesn't g4 lose to e5 hitting the queen and blocking contact with the knight so you win the knight? @23:55
He mentions it elsewhere.
@@musical_lolu4811 not in that specific position he doesn't.
Did Danya ever show the beautiful idea that he decided not to play?
Could white play knight C4 when the white queen was threatened by the bishop?
Whenever I play the fantasy, people either close up with e6 or the fianchetto system Levi likes with G6 lol
The Qb6 lines are also fun for black. For white, of the c3 Qb3 lines before castling are incredible and much more dangerous than the mainline imo Getting the move order wrong there is completely deadly.
This video he is lower rated than last game. Aren't losses uploaded? Appreciate the content of course but I feel like a loss could also be really instructive and very interesting to analyse.
If you look at the account he had three recent "losses". Losses in quotes because he resigned within 20 moves in a neutral position, which is really odd. Maybe he wants to deflate his rating a bit for some reason?
2000 elo are strong its possible for them to get advantage against a gm not always but 5 % chances they can win if they are playing best chess of their life i am 1800 sometimes ill get winning positon against 2000s but they made an comback most of the time and win similary that happen in that match
This fantasy variation looks like new Stafford gambit.. It is really good for the tactical player but it can backfire anytime.. 👍👍
Except the Stafford is dubious and the Fantasy is equal for both and offers a lot of chances for white
Ugga uggaa Algorithmn
still waiting for the grünfeld theory video
It's key that black caught white out, it was never really threatening anything. Whites king safety was the deciding factor even with a 'blunder'.
Hello to my close personal friend Darnell
#Suggestion can you analyze your game against Rurep26 ?
Just imagine this exact video on a cinema scene being shown as a whole movie
Spoice it up, yup yup
