Another excellent video with great tips Julie. I have been called out in class for being too "choppy" and not fluid, but have never really been shown what I need to do to correct this. I have never considered myself graceful and I wish I could, but I think this video is just what I need to help me get there. Thanks!
This was lovely and I certainly have not been keeping up with graceful strength lately. I also keep reminding myself that ballet has a history that was only dance d by early renaissance of aristocratic society and think regal and noble.
This is so helpful, thank you. I am learning ballet but have also done several years of adult dance classes. I try to engage my core to get the controlled movements but often wonder why my shoulders and neck are so floppy. I’m going to practice isolations. I’ve also been looking at some of your videos to practice my ballet during lockdowns. Your explanations are brilliant. I’m in an intermediate ballet class (there was no beginners) in real life (before lockdown) and I am constantly lost in class. I prefer to practice, practice, practice a step to get it right and now I can with your videos. So thank you so much 🙏

This Is Me I found that tap class is really helpful for getting your footing and getting really good at knowing which foot you’re using! It’s really fun, too! Keep practicing and you’ll get there :)
This is an excellent explanation. In a tango dancer struggling to look more smooth. There are some people with much less technical ability than me but still look more smooth and graceful. Have not been able to figure it out. Was thinking that I need to perhaps move slower as someone else mentioned and am now glad to read that this is not it. Was also thinking that I need to have more control over each little movement of the muscle but I fear that this will create tension and stiffness. I think the problem is that it looks like I'm moving my leg on it's own and I am not originating the movement from my core. How do I move a leg starting from the core? Maybe all leg movement has to originate from the hip? The knee and foot move only as a wave emanating from the hip? Are there leg specific exercises to practice this? I can do hip isolation well but I can't get it to roll down to my knee, ankle and foot.
Thanks for your comment! Good thoughts! I think there is an element of wanting to appear that we are moving slower. We want to look like our actions are deliberate, and not "spastic" for lack of a better word, so that we are in control of our motions. I wonder if it's more like controlling the chain reactions that would reverberate through our bodies, versus letting them happened uncontrolled or on their own. It's so hard to describe exactly what it is, but I think much of your comments are true -- we don't want to tense up, that's not what it's about. So we need to have freedom in the body, twisting the ribcage and the hips separately could certainly help that. So our core isn't stiff, but has motion (though not floppy!) Complicated! But of course, when it's achieved, it's just so magical to watch :)
Hmmm this kinda makes sense. But I feel like I need. Part 2. I have a friend that move stupidly smooth. Even running he looks likes he’s gliding. Does he start the movement from his glutes then?
I’m a Minor but I did Acro as a main dance style so whenever I try practicing my ballet develops it was hard to get that grace😂 Also sorry if I spelled that wrong-
I started ballet about a year ago and I CANNOT watch myself dance. I look awkward and jumpy and I just don"t know how to fix it, how can I practice being graceful??
Watching ourselves on video is SO hard for us all! Here's a little video I made about the experience: ruclips.net/video/TjrKCQ2Gt-k/видео.html Practice slowly and repeat the same combinations several times so you can really work on the details and the transitions! Here are some videos to get you started: ruclips.net/video/nw-Uj-SH9vg/видео.html ruclips.net/video/307Az8PX4Z0/видео.html ruclips.net/video/nmXeO8Csfyg/видео.html ruclips.net/video/HirE3AuvGfw/видео.html Patience is the hardest thing for a dancer to cultivate, but try to take it one day, one step at a time! It will come, we just have to keep putting in the work every day and trust the process. Happy dancing! :)
Lol...you are a true dancer already!!! Keep going!!! Ballet has high number of dancers who think they are never good enough. That attitude just adds to their beauty, that's why ballet dancers stay so sharp, and practice so well, and can stay so disciplined. It's just totally different for us. We never get full of ouselves...keep going!! Your on the exact right path!! Much love💖💖💖
Hi I'm watching this for basketball to be smoother and does being graceful consist of doing everything slow or relaxed or am I missing something in my understanding?
Great! Being relaxed is a part of it, but it's key to relax some areas and not others! We don't want to turn into limp noodles necessarily. It's about moving from a strong core and more relaxed limbs, not keeping your limbs stiff. Slow isn't a part of it necessarily either, you can move fast with grace too! Coordinating your limbs to move together, and not piecemeal will help you move gracefully while also moving quickly. Hope that helps :)
Wow, this is an AMAZING way to think about it. thank you!!!
Glad you liked it! Happy Dancing!

Wonderful, good luck! I know you'll be able to consider yourself graceful one day!
I personally think that being strong make grace possible, because then you can have more freedom to explore movements.
Great point, strength really helps us with the ability to coordinate and control our movements!
Yes I agree Alvin Ailey dancers are always so graceful but they are clearly strong too
This was lovely and I certainly have not been keeping up with graceful strength lately. I also keep reminding myself that ballet has a history that was only dance d by early renaissance of aristocratic society and think regal and noble.
That's a great visual, too! Wonderful! Happy dancing :)
Thanks for your advice. You're a fabulous teacher. In order to look more graceful, I prefer to not lift my shoulders (7:16).

These principles are so relevant to all aspects of life, family, parenting, business... thank you!
Lovely words, thank you! :)
This is an important video. Thank you!
Gracefulness is about fluidity. The sea is the one place on earth where life is very graceful no matter what.
What a lovely video. I'm going to try to steal some of this!
I've got the isolation part covered, just, i dont move too good im too clumsy

My friend said something similar. That I need to separate my lower body from my upper. But I can’t get it down.
Thank you so much, such a great and inspiring Video! Good way of explaining it... you are very likeable and ofc graceful ;)
Awesome, so glad that the video was helpful!! :)

@@BrocheBallet so if I keep my core straight and my limbs loose that's all it takes to move with grace ?
Jorge Cuello thats the basic concept! There’s a lot to it once you get started but that’s a good place to begin! Lots of practice will help, too :)
