    (Mrs. Mark) I had to give this story a "like" when I saw and heard about the couple who invited ten strangers into their home for what turned out to be two days, but could easily have been more. They really didn't know for how long it would be, but they didn't hesitate. Wow! I had to ask myself, would I have even thought to do that? That is a lesson in true generosity and giving for all of us, I believe .

      The problem was that the travel ban should have been put into effect Friday morning. People made their way to work or appointments like usual as nothing had started yet & no bans were yet announced. So as a result of waiting until the weather actually hit to issue the ban, people got stuck at work. A lot of people tried to make it home & got stuck on the way. Some of them froze to death in their cars after they ran out of gas, some were welcomed into other people’s homes to stay warm, & some people froze trying to walk. Also, because people had to abandon their cars, it is now making it very difficult to get the streets plowed & find doa’s or survivors who r stuck & can’t get home. It’s a complete mess & even tho we deal with snow every year, we were in no way fully prepared for this much devastation.

    Man I understand some cities and states aren’t prepared for this since they get a half inch of snow and the whole city shuts down, but they have to start putting precautions in place to handle this. Even if it’s rare. It would save lives. I went to college in Tuscaloosa Alabama from Chicago. When it snowed not even an inch the entire town shut down. Literally classes cancelled, stores closed, and everyone freaking out. Then there was me driving easily. It’s not hard they just have to prepare is all.

    • @Elegant_Sausage
      @Elegant_Sausage Год назад +6

      If people freak out over the weather like that, it's better they shut down and get off the roads, it made you safer. People can be dumb driving in weather they aren't used to.
      I'm from a town that shuts down but not because we aren't used to it. It's because ice forms quickly and relentlessly regardless of the planning, and black ice being a major problem here, shutting down has saved countless lives. Sometimes shutting down is the best thing we can do. Sometimes.

    • @LindaC616
      @LindaC616 Год назад +1

      @lkh720 I agree with what you are saying here. I grew up in Michigan and lived in Wisconsin 10 years, the last four of which I spent driving 500 miles a week in the winter, summer, etc. Now I live in Rhode Island. We do occasionally get some snow here, and people do not know how to drive in it. It's a disaster. So it's better when people in areas like the South that are not familiar with driving in the snow just shut down. It's because they don't know how to drive in it, and you cannot learn that in 24 hours.

      Being in & from Buffalo during this blizzard & having lived through others I can tell you that we were not nearly as prepared as we should have been. We are used to the heavy snowfall during winter but knowing what was coming our way, there should have been more thought put into the preparation before it hit. We may not have lost so many lives to this natural disaster. We still have people without power since Friday in freezing temperatures. It’s extremely devastating.

There’s also no obligated contract to live where you are born…unless one is significantly less fortunate in various circumstances, I can see where you’re headed toward. I feel for these people. I got to say that it's best most people don't live in North Dakota. That is a typical winter here. We just got 2 and a half feet and artic temps. The temp never went above 13 below for two weeks. Wind gusts we're 50 mph for four days straight making wind chills 50 below zero.

    Thanks to those that sheltered people in the bitter cold.
    No thanks to Joe Byden for shutting down the Keystone pipeline and offshore drilling that tripled the cost of home heating oil and gas, as well as electricity generated by same. We could use that global warming right now. Of course, we know that you and your family are toasty warm because of the taxpayers paying your utility bills while being unable to pay their own. 🌨️💨🥶🤒😰
