I had supper at a Skylark Gusto in Takayama several years ago, loved it. It was when I discovered that Japanese "Hamburg Steak" is what we would call "Salisbury Steak"- so nostalgic! A TV dinner classic!
Great clip! I think we went to all of these over the years living in Japan. Very good value for money and good food. We lived in Fukuoka, but also travelled around some. Many other chains in Japan are also very good: Saizeriya, Matsuya, Yoshinoya, Royal Host and MOSburger to name a few. I like many family restaurants, tonkatsu and soft pan steaks and sauce etc. Ofc we also ate a lot of sashimi, motsu nabe, seafood, beef etc at both very fine places and ryokans, but these chains often offer very tasty food at a good price. If a place sounds and looks Italian, it is not. It is itameshi, a mix of Italian and Japanese, but can be surprisingly good. And one advice if you are new in Japan, do not hesitate to step into a small yakitory even if the lights are dim and the place is full of salarymen. Menu is probably only in Japanese, but you can order by just pointing at the skewers you want in the display and hold up a couple of fingers, easy. Do not order too much at the time, yakitori should be eaten straight from the grill. And do order edamame beans and white cabbage-kyabetsu with vinegar to go with the skewers and the beer and shochu. Itadakimasu. Arigato!
Thank you! This is a very helpful guide. It has a lot of suggestions that are new to me; tourist videos all seem to recommend the same places over and over, but Kura was the only restaurant I had heard of before. I'm planning a trip for my friends to Japan right now, and I think they'll enjoy Kamakura Pasta; I'm going to add that to our schedule ♥
Loved this video! Went to Kura when I was in Tokyo last week! Great deal, great food! Spent $20 usd for 2 of for dinner and we were stuffed! Didn’t know about every 5 dishes toy lottery! Will definitely look for the other restaurants you recommended when I visit Japan next year!
Thank you for the recommendations. So many suugestion from the videos as compared to other videos
Just came back from 2 week trip to Japan. I wished I saw this earlier. Kura and Gusto was absolutely amazing! I love Japanese food.
Thank you for the comment.
I hope you’ll come back and enjoy Japanese food again!
