I got to tell you that being subscribed to your channel has really motivated me in being creative with men's cuts. I started cutting at Sport Clips in January because I really wanted to learn how to cut men's hair without having to get my barber license just yet. I am still considering getting one just to have it. You have got to be one of the best men's hair cutters and I am comparing you to a lot of the barbers out there. Keep up the good work and please make more videos!
This is an excellent tutorial. I am in barber school now. I have very good instruction. But to have a video, where I can watch, over and over if needed. So when I give this cut. I can see in my mind exactly what I need to do. Step by step. This was "very" helpful. Thank you. Sincerely Ronald Cheatham
Wow! Amazing haircut and technique!! Your cutting in general and clipper over comb is great!! I must tell you that this video was inspiring and one of the best instructional videos I’ve seen with this type of men’s cut!! Thanks!!
Thank you. My favorite educators are also simple yet precise. I do believe in being able to recreate your work consistently, especially on men. Fundamental design supports creativity, not the other way around!!!! :)
Hey! Can you do a tutorial on doing it yourself? My barbershops shut down and I haven't had a cut in TEN MONTHS! I would be so grateful for that, thank you 😊♥️
Finally, the hair cut instruction I've needed. my husband has always liked what I do but this is what I've been searching high and low for. Thank you ❣❣❣❣❣❣
I really like your videos. You don't taint the haircut with egocentric stunts in order to show off. You are very practical and straight foward. I've seen lots of professionals, but you are the 1st felt connected. I love your philosophy. Keep making new videos!
I really love your job, the haircuts are so elegant, you are carefull with te details... and you explain amazing, I learn so much about this. Thanks for sharing
This is the ideal cut for super-fine, super-straight hair, because the weight of the top length keeps it controllable, and the even cutting style gives collective strength to the ends. In the late 70's when the idea of precision haircutting first emerged, this was called a short, round, symmetric men's haircut, off of the ears and the collar, the same length all over with almost no layering. I could go to any stylist, tell them that, and get this haircut. In later decades, they always wanted to go all out on the layering, and after they do that it takes over a year to grow it back out on top to get it cut like this again. Teaching a new stylist became a challenge of simply stopping them from taking so much off of the top that I can't hope for a decent haircut again for a year. Now they want to go all out with the "texturizing" which interrupts the collective strength of the hair endings, and if I don't pay attention after a perfect cut, they will bring out the dam toothed scissors and start hacking at it. Thanks to this video, I simply give them the link when I make an appointment, and am confident of a good haircut.
Your guiding VDO cilps are very inspired ,effective, and super easy to understand. I found your channel while searching on "How to cut Men's hair" for cutting my husband hair during COVID-19.....now I am really interested in this, could possibly be my second job after the first as an architect :) Well, both Hairs and Buildings need design fundamental....and I had fun cutting his hair , again, thank you for sharing!
I like watching her videos. my hair really relaxes. I feel like she's cutting me. it's my inspiration to watch her videos, although they will never cut my hair like she cuts. I'm only happy to see her
Thank you **so much** for this video. I cut my husband’s hair today following your tutorial step by step. Last time he had it cut was December 2019 so it was a mess! I’ve never cut hair before and it turned out better than expected thanks to you. Tapering the sides & back is something I need to practice. I’m just not confident yet. Any suggestions as to how I can practice? Grateful for your help.
This was so helpful to me as a beginner. I would love to learn from you in person! You should offer classes, many would pay to see and learn! Me included!
Who else here because of corona virus aka covid. 19.?????I have to cut my husband hair as barbar are close. Thanks for helping me with this video great one👍👍👍
Thank you so much,I have forgotten a lot from mens cutting class and now I feel confident with doing this cut after watching this video.im going to sub now and watch all your vids :)
I work with Aveda. The Aveda Men's Grooming Clay is very similar in texture is also matte but is water soluble so it washes out. I'm glad you like your hair!
This has been the MOST helpful video to me after watching quite a few in the last year or two. I was able to give my son a great haircut after watching this. The only thing is mine turned out a lot shorter. Somehow I couldn't judge the angle or length very well from the video angle. I have saved this one though -it's a great one.
i have a question. for this haircut... if the client has a side part, would you still part it down the center when you're doing the top, or would you instead use their parting? love your work and your videos, you are a true inspiration! thank you.
When you take the traveling guide around the head (when blending the top and bottom) I know that the guide is vertical and slightly slanted to the curve of the head, when you reach the middle back do you continue with the curved vertical part or do you straighten the part and just pull it out straight towards you
My recommendation is to do one of two things. Either remove the blade and buy a new one or adjust your existing blade with a screw driver. Sometimes they get knocked out of line and can scrape or pull. And make sure to oil!!! Best of luck!
You hold your shears specifically thumb in a certain way i believe taught in many Avedas salons (?) Would you have a video on your specific shear handling as you cut
I LOVE his hair. Guys with short hair don't show up on my radar, but this kind of short hair is so sexy. My man wants me to cut his hair and so I'm researching how to do it. Because if I don't cut it, he's just going to shave it all off. And he has some gorgeous all natural long blond locks that I really want to preserve.
she cuts hair like a cosmetologist . i can tell by her technique she isnt a trained barber; not suggesting thats a bad thing, just that her way of cutting hair (like subsections, the way she clipper over combs, etc) looks more hair dresser
that was really awesome...I have an small query..I feel glad if you can clear that to me...I m growing out my hair..I m finding my left side of the head at back side has more volume than that right side...what shall I do...my barber is unable to do it..he does it..and after some time it's the same as before..
Your hair grows 1/2 inch per month on average. I would start with growing the top out, keeping the back and sides tapered as you grow it. Try to go an extra 2 weeks before getting a haircut but most people's mistake is they just stop cutting their hair. The longer it gets, the longer between haircuts you can go! Maybe 6 months to a year?!
Thanks! I usually book on the 40 minutes and that's with a scalp massage and a shampoo at the beginning and end. Typically the actual haircut takes me about 15 minutes or so. Hope this helps!
Hey Amanda! I really enjoyed watching you cut. You have a great way of doing it and you explain very well all the details of the hairstyle you're doing. This is why I have a little question for you. How to do a similar haircut with curly hair (for someone who has slightly large curls and a very thin and soft hair quality)? Thank you!
+Gracia STEPHAN Sorry I'm just seeing your comment. I didn't mean to ignore you. I would cut curly hair with scissors and take the shape more vertical on the sides and back. In this video, I'm building weight below the parting because he has really straight hair and it easily collapses. With curly hair, you will want to typically remove more weight, as curly hair tends to get really round very easily.
Where do you buy your barber scissors with thumb hole large enough to go over the knuckle? The only way to hold the scissors and comb simultaneously as you do is for the scissors to go over the thumb knuckle. Thanks much.
Hey Amanda, if i wanted the parts of the hair above the ears reaching into my customers face ( sort of a young Justin Bieber Look) could i just go ahead and pull the hair in front of the ear backwars to the last line that i cut behind the ear?
+Sophie Sonnenschein Yes, that's exactly what I would do. Over extend the front hair back toward the ear and that will push that front hairline forward. You got it!!!
You need a clarifying shampoo to take crew out. AC makes a good daily shampoo, you should give it a try. Pure-Formance by Aveda is also a good product.
Thank you for this very informative video. Do you apply other than water before starting cutting. I am struggling with my nephew's hair. It does not stay where I put it like this 1:51
Good question! I don't apply any products, no. I wash the hair before I start so I always am working on clean hair. If you want to make sure the hair stays, always you the fine side of the comb. When you go to push that other hair away, lay the comb flat to the head, and you almost push it with the spine of the comb, with tension. His hair stayed pretty well so I didn't really do it in this video but I know the hair you're talking about. I hope this helps!
That's exactly what a haircut tutorial should look like. Really impressed by the talent. Thank you!

Thanks for the love!!! I never got my barber license. I couldn't find a good school. I actually thought about creating one! Maybe someday.
"the slower and more precise you work, the faster you will become" Beautiful!
This is an excellent tutorial.
I am in barber school now.
I have very good instruction.
But to have a video,

This has to be one of the best video of a haircut I've seen . Very informative and easy to understand techniques being used to cut the hair.
I wanted to understand English so I could get the tips! you make it look very easy to cut hair, you are top !!
Happy to hear that!

There are definitely similarities. The fundamentals apply to both fields. :)
I know where I'd be going for a haircut if I lived in Minneapolis! But from Pittsburgh, that'd be a bit of a drive. I love your work, Amanda!
Thank you! Appreciate the love all the way from Pittsburgh!
