    Thanks Lamar, I have been thinking about getting a light like this to put on my mobile home. It would be worth the money.

    I recommend a Dakota alert driveway alarm, it chimes when a car pulls in your driveway, it detects metal, or you can get a motion sensor. I went magetic because the deer would always set off a motion type

    I have two solar-powered floodlights with motion detectors. I am going to mount them in the pine trees around my cabin so no one can reach them or see them easily. Cameras are next. Good luck with your new lighting, Mike off-grid cabin, Oregon

      It really does and so many new products are designed for off grid and solar and at a decent price. I was scavenging halogen lights from cars back when i started off grid, lol!

    thanks for the review on this lovus light. Let's hope the thing doesn't take on water like you said the yard lights tend to do, and also the solar panel is quality. But ya I'll probably spring for one of these too. It might be a good idea to place it in such a spot where if it snow's one could wipe the snow off the panel w/o having to get out a ladder.

      The info says it is I65 waterproof so I hope it holds up to wet weather.

    The panel needs to be separate so you can mount the light where you want it, and the panel at the best angle.

  • @NormanMcGregor

    Hay Lamar, can you set it so it only turns on when there is motion? No light at 30% but 100% when it detects motion??? Good video buddy!

      Hey Norman, I don't think you can but you can set it for shorter periods. I haven't played with the remote that much?

    I wonder how many days of no sun would it take to quit working. I'm in michigan.

    • @solarcabin
      @solarcabin  2 года назад +2

      It takes 4-6 hours of sunlight to recharge and then lasts 10 hours and you can set it for 3, 5 or 8 hours to extend the battery.

      It worked great all through winter even on cloudy days and it has enough light to cover my whole front yard. No probs with this unit at all.

    The very first iten I got for my off grid cabin was a solar outdoor porch light motion detector. Its is a high lumen led light with a seperate solar panel. Since i have a deck area, the seperate solar panel can be placed in more direct sun, Then gotten a back full solar light unit with motion detector. They are perfect for outdoor lights. I dont like those lights on all night , especially in the country. But the lights on a motion detector is very effective to deter crime. try to think like a criminal for a moment, you are sneaking up to a house to burglarize, all is dark, moon light shining, you get closer, then suddenly the light comes on, first thought would be the owner has his shotgun trained on you by that time. Even mounting a solar panel with the solar pan out side but the light inside, a light comes on inside house...complete red flag for a would be intruder.. Have other lights like the yard lights for planters, gardens, walkways that are solar not needing any grid power, is nice in your area. Many solar lights exist and most are inexspensive and can make your off grid a nice comfortable home.

      I have been very pleased with that solar yard light and it worked all winter even in very low sun days and really casts a wide light.

  • @kuhrd
    @kuhrd 2 года назад +2

    They look interesting but they don't have a whole lot of real measured actual info about the units on Amazon. It says 3.2v 18AH battery so that means it is likely using LiFePO4 but If the BMS/charge controller in the unit doesn't prevent charging in below freezing temps the batteries will likely not last a winter without being damaged to the point of failure. If they have temp sensing on the BMS and the unit waits till the battery is warm enough to charge then they should last a decade or more.
    They are claiming 100LM/Watt in another ad by the same company so that would mean they are running these at 60W fo full brightness and about 20W when in low light mode. On a full charge at 100% brightness, if they are running at 60W these lights will stay lit around 1 hour and at 20W low power mode will stay lit ~3 hours. I don't believe these figures without some actual testing but If it can stay lit for more than 8 hours and still have charge left then low mode has to be more like ~7Watts which would lead me to believe these units are closer to 30 watt lights rather than the more realistic 60W you would see for an LED yard light. These are also residential rated lights and are not for install as an actual replacement for street lights since they don't meet the legal and certification requirements.

      @solarcabin  2 года назад +2

      It says it can handle temperature: -2℉-140℉. We can hit -20 here so I will have to see how it works in winter. It only stays at 100% for 1 minute unless it detects motion. I will do a follow up review in a few months.
