I recommend Sense and Sensibility first as it feels the most similar to Pride and Prejudice, but my second favorite as far as writing is Persuasion! It’s quicker and a bit more moody :)
Pride and Prejudice is so brilliant. You can know everything about the story, have been familiar with it for your whole life, and the writing will surpass your expectations. And yes, I adore Jane Austen and yet her story is tragic. 😭
This was the video where I found out that I was a full ass adult when you were born, so don’t mind me I’m off to pick out my nursing home 👵🏻👵🏻👵🏻 In other news - excellent list, I was both surprised and not surprised by your #1. 👍🏻. Also, shark heart has been on my shelf for awhile - I really need to make sure it gets read this next year!
I have been in such a reading slump. I have bought books, but I read a few pages then I stop reading them. The worst reading slump I have ever had. I may need to try a romance and you made Love Theoretically sound so cute.
It's great to hear you wax poetic and jubilantly about your favorites of the year! Because of your enthusiasm for K MF'ing A's work I now have "The Bear and The Nightingale" and will read it soon. I did also pick up a couple inexpensive copies of the first 2 books in her middle grade series as well. I need to see if you reviewed those "Small Spaces" series books. Your reviews have also led to me getting "Legends and Lattes" and ALL of Richard Osman's books, save the most recent, yet. I realize I'm quite late to these parties but better late than never. Fascinating to learn that "Pride and Prejudice" was Jane Austen's first written book and the other aspects of her writing you brought up. Loved your commands "Sit with that", and then your observation about the plot of Pride and Prejudice -- "it's not (trivial), it's not". Indeed. Very entertaining snippets from TV once again too Meg, thanks. Here's to 2025 for all of us!
I am coming here simply to say I finished Somewhere Beyond the Sea earlier today and I can't wait to hear your thoughts on it. I know there are many who feel the messaging is "heavy handed" and "preachy" but given the state of American politics in particular - it absolutely felt like a balm for my soul and was the perfect end to my reading year
So glad you enjoyed P&P. I try to reread it every few years. I love the way the two stubborn lovers finally resign themselves to being part of a relationship.
I read shark heart this year because of your recommendation and really enjoyed it. Gave it 4 stars. I think next year I want to read the first in the Lady Hardcastle series 😊
Persuasion is up there with P&P for me (I can never decide which is my fave), but they are very different books. I highly recommend the audiobook read by Greta Scacchi.
The only Jane Austen I've read is Northanger Abbey, which I feel like is kind of the "off the beaten path" one. I read it for a class my very first semester of college, so it's certainly been a minute! But I remember the social commentary being so sharp and funny! I might need to jump on the Austen train too.
i loved your video and watching them!! i want to do a video inspired by you and your favorits and if i agree can you choos two books from this list that sum up your tasts!! i will vlog it at some point this year!!
I hope 2025 will be a year of quantity over quality for you. (Which still could mean quantity). The fact that this list is full of chunkers and barely any quick reads (Yet the ones I know are still highly readable) hopefully matches with your content plans for 2025 so that more satisfaction lies that way :) On another note: thank you for another year of highly appreciated booktube content and the great space you’ve carved out for it. ❄️🎊
Ive been enjoying Anna Dorn's books: Exalted and Vagablonde. She does unlikable characters pretty well and theyre very millennial-coded. [I just turned 30 so im a younger millennial and i think im part of her target audience.]
Just finished the Refomatroy after watching you read it, and I loved it! you're not the only one whose 2024 sucked 🥲 Here's to hoping 2025 treats us both better 🥰
I've only read pride and prejudice and sense and sensibility, but I love jane austen so much!!!! in fact I refuse to read mark twain's works because he was so mean about her 💀💀 (im partially joking)
Love seeing Pride and Prejudice as your top!! I would recommend Sense and Sensibility! I think it's a great read. I also really liked Persuasion. I still need to read a few more of her books though 😅

Thanks to your comment I think I’m going to add P&P to my list of books to reread this next year

Haha, almost same! I was a senior in high school in 2000.
Either Sense and Sensibility or Persuasion. I really adore both of them.
I second this ❤
Northanger Abbey 100%. It's gothic satire and I find it the funniest. Good love story too, of course. ♥️
I have been in such a reading slump. I have bought books, but I read a few pages then I stop reading them. The worst reading slump I have ever had. I may need to try a romance and you made Love Theoretically sound so cute.
Megan! Did you see legends and lattes 2 is expected release next year! It’s called Brigands & Breadknives and is following Fern
No one has ever described Shark Heart the way you have. And now I want to read it! Katherine MF Arden is in my top 3 too ❤
I am so happy We Solve Murders made it on this list. I can't wait to read it now.
Sense and sensibility next!! It is my second favorite after P&P
i really need to read shark heart and the reformatory! great video as always 💕

Persuasion is the best book I´ve read this year. So I highly recommend to pick up that one next year.

Happy New Year Meg!!

Yay! I'm watching all my favorite booktubers top 10 videos today! 😍I released mine early cause I was so excited! 🤩😂
I plan on reading Persuasion in 2025!
Sense and sensibility is my second favourite by Jane Austen!

I loved everything you did about Pachinko.❤
My top books are The Tainted Cup, Happy Place and My Husband. It was an eclectic year.
Meg once again expressing how much she loves Richard 🥰
excited to see you read more Austen!!
i loved your video and watching them!! i want to do a video inspired by you and your favorits and if i agree can you choos two books from this list that sum up your tasts!! i will vlog it at some point this year!!
My favorite book of the years was probably The Hacienda by Isabel Canas

I would suggest sense & sensibility next (alongside the Emma Thompson movie!)
Agreed! Plus the sense and sensibility book Emma wrote about filming the movie is also so good. It's a script but then has diary entries. I loved it!
happy new year megan!! grateful for you and this channel🤍
Northanger Abbey for your next Jane! I read it last month and it was my favorite book of the year, I laughed the whole time!
Ahhh I still need to read Pachinko, I’m so glad you loved it! 😍 also hell yes Shark Heart is the best 😍😭🫶🏻
Read Sense and Sensibility next!
NORTHANGER ABBEY! Such an underrated Austen.
Ive been enjoying Anna Dorn's books: Exalted and Vagablonde. She does unlikable characters pretty well and theyre very millennial-coded. [I just turned 30 so im a younger millennial and i think im part of her target audience.]
You talk about jane austen the way i talk about bram stoker. I should start referring to him as Bramy.
**Spoilers for the video ahead**
Was not surprised at all to see Pride & Prejudice as your no 1 book lol
Mansfield Park is not great actually. Emma is my favorite, but I say Sense and Sensibility next.
👀 they guy in Not in Love was something else… pls read it (it is 🌶️🌶️🌶️)
I loved no exit it’s my favorite thriller ever and hated the last word personally I found it painfully predictable.
Just finished the Refomatroy after watching you read it, and I loved it!
you're not the only one whose 2024 sucked 🥲 Here's to hoping 2025 treats us both better 🥰
I like bbc for all thr austen adaptation
Great list! Pachinko is on my 2025 TBR. I am pretty sure I’ll love it. Thanks for sharing with us!
2024 was my worst reading year
I have a lot of 5 stars that were objectively good books but I just don't feel anything for them!😂
Did this video convince me to finally get around to reading Pride and Prejudice....? 😅
I actually liked Emma and Sense and Sensibility better than Pride and Prejudice. Enjoy!
I've only read pride and prejudice and sense and sensibility, but I love jane austen so much!!!! in fact I refuse to read mark twain's works because he was so mean about her 💀💀 (im partially joking)
💛💛💛
