  • Pecos Bill is a larger than life cowboy whose tall tales, performing impossible feats and shaping famous landmarks in a manner not unlike Paul Bunyan, are considered part of American folklore and a symbol of the exploration of the West. He was raised by coyotes and could lasso almost anything. In actuality, the tales weren't authentic folklore but invented and first published in 1917 by magazine writer Edward O'Reilly, with other authors adding their own later on.
