  • Should you visit Ecuador during the current State of Emergency? I caught a bus from Loja to Salinas during this situation and recorded some video of what I experienced at the different bus terminals in Cuenca, Guayaquil, and Santa Elena. If you're planning a trip to Ecuador and you're wondering what it will be like to travel around the country in terms of safety and security this video might be helpful.
Here's my recent video about downtown Guayaquil: • Guayaquil, Ecuador! A ...

OMG! I love how it's somehow your fault that the person beside you on the bus had too much stuff to pack away so you could move. 🤣 I actually hadn't heard about the state of emergency until I saw your video pop up in my feed just after you posted it. It sounds like they're working really hard to keep everyone safe, which is great!

Great video man, thanks! I had such a fantastic trip taking many modes of transport, just not the long-distance buses, which I hope to do next time. And I will be doing more of a coastal tour, so I hope to cross your path!
PS I've been invited to Manta so I want to check that out, too

Trust in the algorithm. Glad I found your channel. Enjoying your sense of humor about living here. Yeah, dangerous bus drivers are a problem. When my brother and sister-in-law visited their bus driver crashed and did kill somebody.

Good video. Thanks for the info. Going to go against the back of the bus thing. It tends to always be bumpy (especially through the Mountains) and it takes a long time to get off the bus, especially when you are trying to catch a connecting bus. When people get to crazy sitting next to me, I politely let them know that I am uncomfortable with their behavior. And most of the time they calm down or they move. Remember...especially in Ecuador ...the culture does not like to show face. So they will usually calm down and sulk for awhile....or better yet move their seat.

Algorithm works sometimes, yes. Good video. Wel, I have to say something thst maybe some people is not aware of an that is riding a bus can be dangerous in so many ways. That doesn't mean that is totally bad. Ecuador has the HIGHEST rate in traffic accidents in South America. And some bus drivers drive like crazy. Some buses get busted by thivess too, There are other odds like unexpected circumstances like road car crashes or protests along the way, and so on. This does NOT happen all the time, it is wise to be well informed of the news before making plans for your trip. I remember going for the first time to the jungle back in 2002, it was all adventurous trip. Bus stopped and we had to walk couple of times so the bridges could bear the bus weight. We also stopped for the military check either way around the round trip, specially when you come back from there. I happen to see first time one inch mosquitoes, that was a heck of a size for a bug! It was all good and memorable. I rode buses several times, nothing wrong with it but you have to be cautious. That's all

I remember traveling Ecuador in 2018, there was a protest blocking the rd and we all had to get off and walk. Met a friendly local about my age and we shot the shit, him smiling and saying yeah this isna regular occurence... lol

I have a feeling that right now, the terrorists and the bad guys are running for the hills. Seems like they have been cornered in a way that safety is returning fairly quick.
The government has said loud and clear, they are not going to put up with them. In regards to that driver, you should call the company and report him for his own good and the people that boards in this bus, he is driving. Just like that!

Would it always be a taxi on the last leg to Salinas, or just during this situation? Good luck with the move!

Ecuador has not been a good choice for a visit nor residence for many years now. You should look elsewhere.

I think many of us that have been here a long time would disagree. Ecuador is diverse and many areas are still great. It’s like if all you know is Chicago and Philadelphia you’d think the U.S. was dangerous and full of homeless people, but if you experienced Kalispell Montana or Haines Alaska your opinion of the U.S. would be totally different.

@@FallofftheMap I completely understand your viewpoint. At the same time, there are other countries that also have nice peaceful locations, but do not have anywhere near the same level of gang/cartel activity combined with government corruption. The "Anti-corruption" Presidential candidate was assassinated in broad daylight in front of witnesses, for God's sake. I just think it is objectively not the best choice.
