  • The Eagles were friends in the Beginning, later on not so much. But here I wanted to look back on how each one of the founding group member made their way out to California and started one of the greatest bands ever. Although she wasn't a member Linda Ronstadt was very important in bringing the four Eagle members together out in Los Angeles. Here is a video on Linda if you might be interested in more about her and the Eagles. • Linda Ronstadt The Mu...

Excellent video, thank you. I was a big fan of the Eagles back in the 1970's. Saw them numerous times, the first being an outdoor stadium show in the summer of 1977 during the extended Hotel California tour. The last was an outdoor stadium show during the Hell Freezes Over tour. Since the end of the 70's I have mixed feelings. The band released four outstanding albums, the first through One of These Nights and a fifth that is arguably the best album of the decade, Hotel California. Since then, it's been mediocrity and retreads with little in the way of new material at all. The documentary and Don Felder's book further soured my opinion. The glaring lesson here is that one or two members did not make the Eagles, it was a team effort and certain members could not be replaced. I have nothign against Timothy B. Schmit, Vince Gill (both very gifted artists) or Deacon Frey but the current lineup is not the Eagles, they're a tribute band. If my understanding is correct, Don Henley is the Eagles and the others are basically employees, if that's true I'm guessing the temptation of cashing in was too much.

Excellent video my friend. I was a big fan of Linda Ronstadt in the early 70s I would go to every concert at the troubadour featuring Linda and her backing band which was the Eagles although they didn’t know it yet I was always blown away by the dynamics the musicianship And the power of Linda’s voice and her band. I had a feeling the band was going somewhere in those early days. I had no idea that the Eagles would become one of the greatest recording bands in the United States in the world.
Rest in peace, Randy, Meisner, and Glenn Frey, and the balance of the Eagles live forever

I saw the Eagles in Aug 1976, at Denver's Mile Hi stadium, part of the Hotel California tour. I don't remember a lot from that day, I couldn't tell you who the opening acts were. I remember it was a great show, I remember a friend had brought in a spiked watermelon (kept us hydrated), and I remember thinking when the Eagles came on stage, how normal they looked. I don't know what I was expecting them to look like, larger than life, I guess! They didn't look like big Rock Stars, they looked just like us, with their long hair, jeans and T shirts. At the beginning of the "History of the Eagles", a fan tells Glenn Frye how normal he looked. That would have been the same comment that would have fallen out of my mouth too, I'm sure.

The Eagles had that burst if creative song writing in Rock & Roll/folk/country during the 1970s.
Strictly that 5 or 6 year period post woodstock saw an explosion in creative from lots of bands, including led Zep, pink floyd, black sabbath, deep purple, Queen… plenty of solo artists and jazz fusion artists.
      Wonderful period.

I love the Eagles! My cover of Holtel Calif. lead guitar solo has been "locked" on my TT channel. But I'm going to do more, lots more. A young guitarist keeping great music alive. My Dad, also a guitar player introduced me to Don Felder and the rest is history.

The "ultimate" California band, and none were natives. Trivia: The Stone Pony's hit, Different Drum, was written by Mike Nesmith, who would go on to join The Monkees. When I saw Timothy B. Schmitt he was playing with Jimmy Buffett when Eagles were on their "break".

That would be Glenn Frey and Don Henley. Plus their manager who supported their disrespectful behavior towards their bandmates. Egotism and greed have diminished or destroyed many bands over the years. Too bad some people don't grow up and learn how to get along.

Saw them live. Probably 1975’ at Sacramento’s brand new downtown expo building. The floor was laden in spilt beer. Chicks everywhere. Slipping and a sliding. The Desperado’ LP is a treasure of incredible Songwriting.

I have a feeling from watching your videos on the Eagles that you like me, prefer the early original eagles over the band that got huge around hotel California. Just a great blend of music styles and Bernie kills it with the fiddle and banjo along with steel and normal guitar. The original 4 had the original laid back west coast sound that was just so tight

This group of musicians known as the "Eagles" were definitely a powerful influence on millions & thanks for the figures on their Greatest Hits album, I didn't know anyone who didn't have that album at some point. A bit of trivia on Don Henley is that he did his growing up in a deep east Texas town called Linden, where incidentally, my first touring drummer was from, he used to see Henley around town

Dang RD, the Eagles will still be on tour When Hell Freezes Over.
Great video. Loved the original four and Felder was really good too.
Favorite lp has to be Desperado with On the Border a close second.
On a side note, I always thought Jackson Browne's version of Take it Easy was the better one. David Lindley could play slide guitar for sure.

The current version of the Eagles need to retire the song Take it to the Limit. No one can do justice to that song except Randy Meissner. Sorry Vince, that's just how it is.

Agreed. But they are doing it as a tribute to Randy which they announce at each concert. Plus since he was a cowriter, I guess some money goes to his children. Of course, no one can sing it like Randy did. His live performances were legendary. At least there are videos of a few of those.

Swamper Jimmy Johnson of Muscle Shoals said that while recording Linda, he overheard Glenn saying to the other guys, “guys, if we just stick together, we’ll make it”. Jimmy said he thought to himself, “no shit”.
