These burgers appear to be defined by how much crap they put on them; the meat appears to be an afterthought despite being freshly ground. It's about the MEAT!
All this smashburger crap is a bunch of crap. It's a waste of meat to compress it razor thin and then burn it to get that "sear". and then cook it well done (there's really no other way, as it cooks more or less instantly) They're really just a kind of amusement burger for kids. Cook 'em the normal way (about 3/4 inch thick) until the internal temp is about 10 degrees below your target temp for level of doneness (with cheese on), take it off, put it on the bun, plate the rest of your food, pour a beer, and eat! It'll be done in the few minutes it takes to get the rest of your dinner together. Perfect.
