- This week's furniture paint project will probably sparked a lively debate: to paint or not to paint, that is the question?
For the past five years, I've cherished this beautiful Victorian washstand in my home. However, I hesitated to showcase it on my RUclips channel because I know there are passionate supporters of preserving original Victorian furniture in its untouched state. The love for showcasing the natural wood and its intricate grain is undeniable. It was indeed a tough decision, but I'm thrilled that I finally decided to feature it on my channel.
If you follow the tutorial, you'll understand my reasoning behind the painting of this piece. Now, it will return to its rightful place in my home, seamlessly blending into the beautifully decorated room scape. The entire project involved a significant amount of restoration and fixes, including using leftover chalk Paint from previous color mixes. I wish I could recall the exact shade, but trust me, it looks utterly divine!
Make sure to mark your calendars for the live premiere on RUclips, happening at the usual time and place. Let's dive into the intricacies of this furniture transformation together!

So beautiful - if people are distressed about painted furniture they shouldn’t watch a painted furniture artist’s channel - it’s not like the wood is gone - your art is lovely and brings joy
Pink being my favorite color I love this piece ✌️🖖😎💙
I get upset when people get judgmental about paint vs stain. You are the artist. It's for you or your market. You get to choose. It's lovely!
Absolutely gorgeous!🎉
You have a great eye for choosing pieces that have "good bones", and loads of potential... then you just do your magic paint thing, and voila! A blush pink jewel.
It's wonderful to watch!
From a forever Wisconsin fan, you are a true amazing artist, you have God gifted hands.i saw my parents growing up make furniture out of anything they could salvage and it was stunning, I came from a family of artists and you gave inspired me more than anyone else, your style is glorious, and your voice is soothing! I watch you morning, evening, every chance I get and am now recreating a smaller table close to one of yours previously. You gave me a new creative goal. God bless you and your lovely home, partner and your beauty shines outwardly. Blessings !! Sophia
My favourite combo! Scandi pink, wet distressing, flickies & a wash 🥰😍😍😍😍 even my partner stopped playing his game to watch your video 😁
So Jonathon, I’m like totally jealous of some of the pieces you find. 😂
Before even seeing the end result I'm voting for painting it. I used to be a purist about antique furniture, but I'm now happy to slap paint on anything that needs it. I bought an Australian Cedar chest of drawers from 1880 because I love the timber and it was beautifully made. The catch? It was painted white. Perhaps one day I'll strip it because Australian Cedar is a beautiful rich timber, but I'll leave it for now. Now I've seen the end result. You've proven that painting it was the perfect choice.
The piece turned out beautifully! Love the color and all the talent and thought that you put into making this old girl glow again!
WOW! You’ve turned this piece of furniture into a jewel.
Your choice to paint the wood was brilliant for a piece like this❤❤❤ On a personal note, I had let my hair grow very long since Covid started and finally decided to wear it extremely short, but where to go? I thought of you Jonathon and even though I'm female went to a barber shop which was such a wonderful experience and now I'm a devoted customer!
Love the paint job. Love the trim on the back legs. Good idea. I have a compulsion to put a marble medallion on the back splash. As an alternative you could have put a electronics outlet in the hole on the middle of the marble. Leaving the wood on the legs might have been interesting as well. Nice work
I love your eye. Also super cool that you are a hair artist and a furniture artist.
A masterclass!! Thank you xx Jonathon would you please consider doing a short video on the paint brushes that you use? Thank you so much for this lovely video xx
Beautiful Jonathan - love the colour! Your work is stunning as always!
Johnathan, the cream 20 volume peroxide applied with cling wrap over (to keep it liquid long as possible) then put into the sun would take the stain out, no soda. It works especially well on yellowed plastic like an exhaust fan cover. The ultra violet rays work with the peroxide to bleach out the yellow of the plastic to white. This could have made the marble look completely new though.
I would have gone over the the marble with mineral spirits first to remove any old wax, as I think it is one of the few things that will cut wax. Not sure though. It really is loverly.
Oh, so pleased, I've been Missing you !!!
1:30 AM Tennessee Time and I may actually be up and watching.
Really excited!

I'll share a quick story with you.
(I'm not your average Tennesseean), although Dad moved us here to his home area, Kenton, and I was educated in TN Schools + University of Memphis Alumni, 🐾 Go Tigers, I'm a native of: (Northside Chicago, Irish Catholic, Independent Free Thinking = never fit the "Local Standard", proverbial Round Peg in a Square Hole, but "they tolerated me",
I lived in Nevada 17 years and returned due to symptoms following Radiation/RAI.
It's a pretty state, with an interesting History and I did dedicate a fair amount of time to it's interests, (Lobbied Healthcare, Education, and Welfare/Wellbeing of Children and Families/Tennessee.
awarded "State of Tennessee, Aid de Camp" back in 1999.
I appreciated that gesture and it remains a heartfelt appreciation, as those involved were truly dedicated to this state and did so much to ensure the future well-being of the "Children and Families of Tennessee.
Worthy Memories you've inspired today.
I absolutely adore Jonathon and his platinum Artistic Talents. I hope to see him either at one of his visits to the USA or when I get over his way (I thinking of an extended trip to Ireland next year and will also plan a few days in Britain.) I've a fair bit to accomplish in the interim and expect to enjoy getting it accomplished band looking forward to the trip.
I saw an advertisement for an Atlantic Cruise to Britain and thought that would be a fabulous experience. I've vcruused the Caribbean and the Pacific, always wanted an opportunity to cruise the Atlantic
I shall hope to see your comment on future videos of Jonathon's Creative Works"
Best Thoughts !

.
So good to see you Johnathan.
Glad you’re well and creating beautiful pieces for our enjoyment and learning process.
This again is an amazing creation.
I’ve missed you.
🇨🇦💕
#replay You do the most incredible work, not just the gorgeous painting and patinas but also the way you fix and construct different missing elements to pieces. This is not the first time I've seen you make additions to pieces where they seemed to be missing and you always end up with such a cohesive and natural looking finished product. It's a gift! May I ask, do you happen to remember what your mixture was for your dusty pink??? It is stunning! And almost seems to have a coral tone incorporated... I'd love to try to mix something like this!
Oh that fly speck! It’s gorgeous and adds so much and I always forget that detail! What a glowing piece. And never apologize for painting a piece. You are a fantastic artist and it looks so much better than original! Carry on Jonathan ……❤❤❤
Jonathon, it looks so much better. You really are a genius. Thank you for sharing the repairs too and give us ideas on how to solve problems. X
It is, sooo gorgeous! As usual!!!
Beautifully done
Jonathon, i think it was thoughtful and educational how you explained your choice in painting this table. As stated in another comment, there are certainly wood "purists". You may have opened some eyes to the beauty of painting wood?!?? However, the table belongs to you. And with your talent it would be shameful not to give this piece a new look and what a look it is!!! Simply gorgeous. Your design intuition is always spot on, not the least in this case. Adding the trim to the back legs was so impactful. I'm grateful for this tutorial....you have been missed. Forever a fan.....😊❤
Wow! You always manage to amaze me with you stunning pieces. You are so talented. This is a beauty

Super Sweet!! Love the color-leans toward pink with a bit of red and opalescent!!❤wish that you had done a bit of brown wax to show off the beautiful WoodUBend and details!! So Gorgeous!! Welcome back!!!❤
Wooow!!! Always awesome projects. Beautiful table! Thanks❤
Love this🩷😍!!! You do such beautiful work☺️
Marvelous!!! I love how things came together.
Very good taste !
Blessed be the work of your hands🤝
Wonderful piece. Love the addition u added. 👏👏
What a process but well worth it. It looks stunning!
Hi Jonathan, many use and combination of baking soda and peroxide to remove stains from their teeth. I bet that would help lift the stains for the marble.
I was looking to do exactly this on a piece! Thank you for this tutorial.
Jonathon, I remember watching this episode on your channel a few months back. I live in rural Queensland and love antiques. Anyway a victorian era Australian built dresser / sideboard came up on marketplace, and I managed to buy it for $65au. No I'm not painting it pink, but dark blue also striping the horizontals to back bare wood then top coating it with polycrylic. All the chalk painted areas, with clear wax. However why I am writing to you now is that I don't like the blank flat boards at the back. They look like they were forgotten against the turned front legs with buttons around the balls etc. I knew you did something with yours, but at nearly 72 I had forgotten. So I had a Jonathon binge to find the pink thing. I was so pleased to see again that you just put a fine D mould on yours - so easy to do. And it really looked like it was there from the start. So off to Bunnings I go - only 120km but I am so grateful to you for your talent and inspiration. Stay safe
Un proyecto precioso
Jonathon 🎉
I believe in you if you think it has to be painted I believe that's true!!!❤❤❤
Omgoodness so happy to see you!!! ❤❤❤
Absolutely gorgeous!!!❤❤❤
I'm so sorry it takes me long time to get thru these videos sometimes 😢😢😢 !!! Thankyou so much...enjoy your gifts of creativity ect.❤❤❤
Gorgeous!
I have an antique marble top dresser I’m getting ready to have a go around with and it has a small discoloration on top. I’m going to try the baking soda and hair peroxide. Thanks for the idea!!
Ice cream truck😁👏🏼💕
Wooowww! As always!
I think there is a time for painting furniture! If u have a rare or expensive or burl beautiful wood, then NO. If u have an inexpensive, damaged or flawed piece then YES use paint, glaze or stain!!!
Yay! Fly speck!
Buetiful
Totalmente de acuerdo contigo, a los que se escandalizan por ver pintado un mueble de madera, siempre les digo que no se preocupen tanto, que que la madera sigue estando debajo y no hay nada irreversible..
Jonathon, I don’t think you need to give any reasons to justify painting anything! The “purists” are rigid and need to get a life! Not everyone wants to live with color brown. Even the pyramids were painted, not the stone color we see today. Different people like different looks and they need to get over it.
I’ll get off my soap box, now. The pediment is perfect. The detail on the back supports is just what was needed. As they were, they looked to me like a poor repair to the original piece due to damage.
The finished piece is stunning! I love everything you paint! If you think it should be painted, go for it.
❤ Shirley
If you never paint wood furniture, you'll end up with a "grandma's house" look.
Did you paint your cabinets again?
They look great!
The title of this is a oxymoron. Not rescue but destruction. Anyone with a camera and a can of paint can be a furniture restoration expert.
Baking powder and baking soda are two totally different things. Sodium bicarbonate is what you are using.
Wonderful results. But the background music is less than desirable. Stressing! If you can improve the sound to more serene viewing, the experience for us, viewers, would improve significantly. Otherwise, good job!
Wow! You always manage to amaze me with you stunning pieces. You are so talented. This is a beauty
